thanks for the welcome:D
I need some ideas please with what to wear in bed (from a menopausal womans point of view to any male readers:p)
I feel the cold, I'm skinny and usually put on my primark fleece pj's, sleep under a 10.5 tog duvet with the summer 4.5 tog doubled up on top of my side (hubby doesn't feel the cold) so was nice and toasty, until night sweats!
So far I've ditched the 4.5 duvet and fleece pj's.
I've tried wearing a 100% cotton long tshirt thing, great for night sweats but then I wake up as I've got goose bumps on my shoulders and legs and I'm frozen.
Money is tight (I've no job) so what can I buy that will keep me warm when not sweating and cool/easy to freshen up when I am?
I'm sure the answer is obvious but I dont have working brain cells either!!!0 -

What about a cotton long sleeved shirt - one of your dh's? hhhmmm...trying to think as i haven't got hot in bed for a while and ...as yet...haven't had sweats when I was hot. Cotton jamjams seem to come to mind which is why I suggested the shirt.
Re the hair thing - I have Trev0r S0rbie thickening leave-in conditioner spray and it's good. I also use a thick conditioner sometimes for my colour but am thinking will ditch it while the grease attack is on the go. Might get some dry shampoo and give it a puff of that. Did a bit of reading and it seems that over washing might aggravate it. How annoying.
Shykins , hope you feel better soon.
Sleep tight little buddies and don't go getting hot and bothered.

Hi all,
Well I went to bed a 9.30 last night as I felt awful all day. I woke up this morning at 6...the dustmen woke me actually....sooo noisy. I just laid there until 7 when I got up. I must say I felt much better today. Obviously the few extra hours did me good.
My hair also needs washing more....tends to get greasy at the front more often now...must be to do with my sweaty forehead...!
My feet ache a lot too...I didn't connect that with the menopause though. How strange that it affects your feet. My left foot is very painful..hurts most of the time..its sort of under my heel and the edge of my foot...but its actually 'inside' my foot...not to the touch, if you see what I mean.
I hope everyone has a peaceful night with some quality sleep....nite nite everyone....(sounds like a kids show)...!0 -
Glad you slept well last night dogcat. It makes all the difference doesn't it.
As for the nightwear question, they have those nice fluffy socks in the shops now. make brilliant bedsocks if you get cold feet. Sometimes wear them instead of slippers (which are called dubs in our house)
I sometimes get one of those intensive conditioners and put a shower cap on whilst it's seeping in to your hair follicles. Warmth helps that process. Where I used to live, I'd go to the local leisure centre for a swim and sauna, then wash my hair and plaster the conditioner on and sit in the steam room for 10 mins.
you are gonna get seriously hot but hey, for that lovely soft hair, it's worth it!Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
Greetings fellow "Hot Ones" and "Pausers"
Has anybody else switched to soya milk to get some soya into their daily diet? I'm trying them out at the moment and true to type I'm not keen on the 59p one from Lidl but the £1.50 Alpro is my current front runner. I'm trying all the brands before I settle on a regular one though.
Might try the burgen bread as well.
Here's wishing us all a good nights sleep - it does make all the difference to how you feel the next day doesn't it. :wave:Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -
jacks check the soy packet, the reason u prob like the alpro on is that it is sweetened and maybe the aldi one isnt. tesco do their own one both sweetened and unsweetened
i dont wear anything in bed saves me overheating and getting tied up in it when i toss and turn. have been awake and flushing since about 3 today UGGGH
thanks for the get well message - acupuncture is kicking in and it feels less painful today - just as well as i am about to face the terror that is lakeside
i just won some of that dry shampoo maybe i should give it a go, never usedit before
have a good day allWhen you know better you do better0 -
just reading on another forum about a book called "Outsmarting the mid life fat cell"
in it she states that as we start the process of menopause our fat cells grow larger to start producing estrogen for us. The cells activate more of the enzymes that store fat, deactivate the enzymes that release it and expand by at least 20%!
Some of her advice: Don't diet! Don't eat less, move more! Don't eat less frequently, eat more often!
She emphasizes the importance of weight lifting and the fact that a simple walk will probably not be intense enough to burn the fat.
She feels low fat dieting has done us a disservice in that we don't feel satisfied eating that way and will often overeat to compensate. She places no limits on what to eat just that we shouldn't over or under eat.
she also says eating late was not good for older women. The metabolism really slows down around 6ish.
sorry if its a bit long but i thought it was interestingWhen you know better you do better0 -
Great info shykins. I think the idea of move more is good as i really feel the benefit of exercise. It's so difficult to motivate myself to do it sometimes. This past summer I started walking much more - I have 2 dogs so walk them quite a bit but I stopped taking buses (in the city) and marched about at a great rate. I really felt the muscles in my legs working for the first time in ages! Sauntering about the park with dogs is not the same as this marching malarkey. Now that it is colder, I feel the 'need' (ha ha) for proper butter, and a good spread of it, and cooking with lots of olive oil.
Re the soya milk - I used it a couple of years ago and found it good for my grumbly tum. Alpro was about £1 then so it has shot up in price. Might go back to soya milk - not good in coffee though I found - always curdled. Don't know why.
Off for my porridge
Have a good day all

Morning lovely peeps,
just a quickie. I'll catch up with all your news later. Really busy Avon delivery day - Xmas orders piling in. Am caving in on the 'giving up caffeine' thing. Annoyed with myself, just can't resist a small cup of coffee or tea when I feel rubbish or have pain.
Have a good day everyone. XXX"Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”0 -
Hi ladies!
Joyfull, don't feel like you're caving in!
If you decide to have a cup of coffee when you 'need' it, I'm sure that's still less overall than you'd maybe have before! One cup, early in the day , that you sit down and really enjoy......that's fine I reckon.
shykins...thanks for the reference to the book, will have a look later. Similar ideas to the Marilyn Glenville book "fat around the middle" book. Makes sense. I think in some ways we are coming full circle with "dieting now. More "experts" seem to be telling us that artificially low-fat foods and low-sugar substitute foods and a high carb way of eating are not helping long term weight maintenance.
Marilyn Glenville also cites that a lb of muscle burns 75 calories a day, whereas a lb of fat only burns 8 calories a day. She goes on to say the average inactive woman can lose 5lbs of muscle between ages 40 and 50. That means requiring 335 less calories a day  than 10 years before. So buliding and maintaining muscle is important too.
wmf, agree that a stroll in the park doesn't really cut it. I'm on my feet (and moving round busy, not standing) in work all the time, often all the way through for 8 hours. I feel like I am active in my job, yet realistically, it probably makes little difference!
Have a good day y'all, keep moving!!! :j:j:j:j
