Thought I'd post this here in case any others experienced this weird problem....

I have always washed my hair every day. About 10 days ago one patch on the crown of my head was really greasy, and I thought I hadn't washed the conditioner out properly. Next day I made sure I did, but the horrible waxy, greasy patch was still there. It was really strange - the rest of my hair was absolutely fine.

Doing some surfing as a work avoidance tactic (self employed!) I found greasy patches on the crown was something often experienced by peri menopausal women. There were numerous remedies suggested and the one I've tried that works is rinsing the greasy patch with listerine. And it works :j definitely less greasy now.

That's my share! Now someone tell me what to do about the spots that have recurred after a 30 year absence, the sweats, and the facial hair! And if anyone has any suggestions on what to do about the white eyebrow hairs... (I know that's age, not hormones!) I'd be very grateful!

happy new year, fellow meno survivors!

    Hi cazziebo & welcome,

    White eyebrow hairs....

Every week when I visit my mum in the nursing home, one of my many duties is to colour her smattering of white eyebrow hairs with a Brow Definer - or even a pencil type eye liner. I'm an avon lady and know you can buy them for about £3. They work a treat - no smudging.

Wierd about the greasy hair spot. Listerine... you will smell fresh!

  • Eyebrow definer? I'm a blondie so I've never used one as all of them are far too dark for me. A trusty eyeshadow brush with a light brown shadow does the trick just fine. Joyful. perhaps your Mum could learn to do that for herself so she could have nice eyebrows every day instead of once a week?

Mum has MS & has very shaky hands. She manages to avoid rubbing off the definer so it pretty much lasts the week.

  • Hello to you all,
I'm looking for some information on help with night sweats, i'm 44 and for the last 3-4 months i have been suffering with these (no other symptoms apart from heavier and more painful periods yuk). I've tried searching the internet for remedies, but apart from black cohosh (sp) i can't find any more.

If any of you could tell me what you have tried and wether it has any effect, i would be very grateful. I've read quite a few pages here, but haven't managed to read them all yet.

    Thank you

hi red boxer, i think a few of us have tried different things, problem is what works for one doesnt for another

i found menapol (simply supplements) really helpful at first but that stopped working so am now using femarelle which unfortunately is much more expensive but its working!!

re the heavier periods may be worth speaking to your dr, mine got heavier and heavier and more and more frequent and i ended up with an ablation and YAAAAY no more bleeding since.

    good luck

Hi red-boxer, i've been on HRT for 12 months now and they have helped with the night sweats but not completely stopped them, as Shykins said what works for one doesn't for another.

I'm off to my 1st gynacologist appt today for meno related stuff, really hoping he can sort them out.
  • Thank you, i have ordered the Menapol to give it a try, it has some good reviews. I did read the Q&A page and i noticed that the ingredients had changed due to a EU directive - maybe that is why it stopped working for you.
The heavy painful periods i can cope with for the moment, i went to the doctors about a year ago and he prescribed mefemanic which didn't make much difference at the time ;(
  • I'm in my early forties and not sure if I'm menopausal or not. I was suffering flooding for 8 days and really sore tender breasts for 10 days beforehand. Also my cup size increased by 3-4 sizes in around 18 months. Water retention tablets helped a bit, but in the end Dr recommended a mirena coil which I had fitted in Sept. Bleeding was a bit inconsistent for first 3 months, but is much lighter now and it has definitely saved me a lot in sanitary goods. During the first 3 months the tenderness beforehand was only there for 2-3 days and was much improved, however, the last few months it has come back as a heavier sore feeling than before and is lasting 2-3 weeks.

I'm aware that Mirena is sometimes prescribed instead of HRT and wondered if anyone has been prescribed for same reasons. I know it can take up to 9 months to fully work, but it's making my life a misery and I'm not sleeping because of the tenderness either. I've just started a healthy eating and exercise plan in the hope it will perhaps reduce the cup size and that may help.

    Thanks for any advice

Oh I think you should feel the benefit of it long before that.
Crikey, one could grow a whole baby in that time!

On a side note, I have bought two nightdresses from M&S Stay Cool Sleepwear range. £20 odds each.
They are made from Modal a fabric which allows moisture to evaporate even faster than cotton.
I suffer horrible night sweats and can even feel the perspiration running down my back at times and also collecting in my collar bones dips!
So I htought I'd take a chance on the nighties and YES!!! They DO work.
I still sweat but am cool and dry much more quickly.
The only thing is I would recommend the longest length available as I bought knee lenght which rides up and my Knees can still be clammy!
I might even get another one.
    Hope this helps someone.
