:beer:Stary night - yes, it's best to get that checked out - put your mind at rest.
Patchworkcat -I was as regular as clockwork, then my periods disappeared for about 5 months, then I had a period from hell for a couple of weeks, then nowt for months, then another. I think everyone is different - some can just disappear & others just become more & more haphazard for a few years. I would call it perimenopause. I read that before 50 if you haven't had one period in 12months then you are in menopause - 2 years after the age of 50 - or is it the other way round? Well - whatever. I think it's a transition & that can go on fior ages thinking you aint gonna have another, then wham.
Joyful - really sorry about the headaches. Can you get painkillers without the caffeine or aren't they as effective? Coffee is a bit of a remedy for headache - so it's a Catch 22 for you maybe? I was given a menthol stick thing in France that you rubbed on your temples. It was cold & made your eyes run & your sinuses unblocked so you had to blow & blow your nose & hey presto, your headache went - wish I hadn't lent it to someone & never got it back. It was in a turned wooden holder with screw on wooden cap - lovely item in its own right.
My ground is filled with teenage chicks that are ratherbeautiful to have around the place & I find myself just staring at them.
I've been a bit weepy at the prospect of another Winter in the caravan as it seems to have come so cold & we feel cheated out of Summer as it's been really wet here.

If you take a lot of painkillers you can get a rebound headache.0 -
Goodness that sounds like a modern equivillllllent of what I got in France - I think I'll get some as that worked for me - cheers Patchworkcat!0

Hi ladies, nice to hear from you all, and welcome to new posters!0

I tried the menthol stick, infact got it out y'day. Doesn't really help. (NEVER rub it in you eyes, it's beyond painful!) I get these one sided hot headaches now & again & caffiene is the only way to alleviate them. they have their own time cycle & infact this morning (always on day 4) it seems to have gone, yeeee! When the menthol stick runs out, there's always plenty left in the bottom of the stick, so scrape it out & carefully rub it on. Very MSE.
Choille, was hoping you might be in yr house & not have to endure winter in the van. Hope you're getting the wood pile gargantuan in preparation."Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”0 -
It's been really lovely reading all the posts on here....... my OH does try and understand (bless 'im) but I'm sure I can see his eyes glaze over now and again when I'm having a winge about how I'm feeling.
Am I actually in the menopause now or just the beginning? I've been having hot flushes for over 2 years, my periods just got fewer and fewer and I haven't had one for just over a year, my skins definitely drier and my hair thinner (yeuch) and tbh I do feel cr*p and tired most of the time. I think that's cos of the lack of sleep though rather than anything else.
When I asked my gp about the hot flushes she just said it sounds like the menopause although I was just 47 at the time. Never been tested but I was given a leaflet about 'natural' remedies. There isn't anyone else I can ask about this sort of thing.......... I love the internet0 -
Oh, and thanks for the lovely welcome0

Hi joyful, Bronnie, Vintage Brighton welcome.
joyful - the menthol stick pain reminded me of leaning back on the sofa & my then BF decided that I should sniff some Olbas Oil as I had a cold - loads of the actual oil went up my nostril & that was blubbery unpleasant too. Shame you couldn't get some homeopathic caffeine remedy - sme folks use evening primrose oil for headaches I think.
The house build is restricted with how much money we have coming in & we are trying not to take out a loan, but it means that we can't get on as fast as we'd like to. We'll get there one day hopefully.
Vintage Brighton _ I love the internet too as I am so isolated & although my OH is great ,it is good to come on here & see how others are fairing with it all. It does sound like you are in the menopause & I know what you mean by lack of sleep - that doesn't help at all. I seem to be sweating continuously at the mo - hadn't had that for ages & ages. I'm tryng to get outside as much as possible as it's nice & dry just now which we haven't had much of since June!
Take care everyone & hope that you are seeing some lovel yAutumnal colours at the moment.0 -
Has anyone had problems getting HRT? I've done research so I know what I'm letting myself in for but my gp is very reluctant to let me have it. Is this an issue in other areas? Just wondering if there's something I should be aware of x0

Hi VB,
I had no problems getting HRT. But.... I had put up with 6yrs of intense flushing & was adamant I would NOT take HRT, but my Dr was quite willing to prescribe, but only for max of 5 yrs (he then said 3, so dunno what it will be?)
I experimented (after researching on the net) with taking one third of a tablet & it just keeps the flushing at bay, and of course means I'm taking no more hormone than is necessary."Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”0
