  • I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of the symptoms for the menopause?

I am 43, starting to get irregular periods and I am SOOOOO tired - I could happily go to bed at 8pm every night.

Is it worth a visit to the doctor or should I just "get on with it"?

Thanks in advance if you can help.

Actually it could be a number of things.

Yes menpause or your thyroid or even diabetes. Either way a simple blood test will tell you. My periods started getting lighter and disappeared some years back and it turned out to be an overactive thyroid. I was very happy as I always had heavy periods. Only started the menopause about a year ago at 52 and my hot flushes etc are very light.:T

    Go and see the Dr.

I ended up with Type 2 diabetes, menopause, and one or 2 other things.

    Best to get checked over.

  • I'm soooo happy I found this thread. I'm really struggling right now - I thought I'd have about 2 years of hot flushes etc, that marker has passed and no sign of a full nights sleep any time soon :) Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with my lot, I love being a mature lady but these damn hot flushes and night sweats mean I haven't had a full nights sleep in over 2 years and I've tried everything (apart from HRT). I'm so blerdy worn out and tired! I'm gonna spend the rest of the day reading as much as I can on here just help me feel I'm not alone with this! Back later I expect :rotfl:
  • Hi Ladies. First post on this thread following removal of my ovaries and fallopian tubes a few weeks ago.
The Consultant told me I'd go right into the menopause and I did have some hot flushes, but I'm having a period now and I'm absolutely flabbergasted! Has anyone heard of this before?

Hello newbies on here - you'll find loads of helpful stuff & tea & sympathy.

Starynight I think you should maybe get in touch with your GP.

I think night sweats can go on a long while. I didn't have them now I do, they seem to come & go with me. I feel fedup at the mo but what can you do?
  • Thanks, choille. I'll be at my GP's for some more pain medication soon so I will ask for a referral back to the gynaecologist. I was not expecting this at all!

  • I wonder if you would mind telling me how long before your last period did your periods become irregular.

I have a fibroid and very heavy periods, but on day 18 of last cycle my breasts became very tender and I started spotting, light bleeding. this has been going on since and I am now on day 34 and no sign of a proper period.

Just been to GP and he virtually shrugged his shoulders and said coem back in a week or two it could be the start of menopause. I am 45. Not asking for medical advice already had that! All he would say is average age of menopause is 51, but surely that is cessation of menses and not the start of irregularity etc.

My periods went from regular to nothing & not had a spot since (6yrs ago). You can be tested by GP for beginnings of m'pause. Don't be 'shrugged off' if you're concerned.

    Hello everyone btw!

Feeling not great. Day 3 of headache. The caffeine in the painkillers make me all weak & jittery.

Not looking forward to winter, as the aches & pains go orbital.

Sorry to hear of others probs. It can be so tiring, specially with bad sleep.

My new little bunny Lilo Lil is keeping me on my toes though.

Stary night - yes, it's best to get that checked out - put your mind at rest.

Patchworkcat -I was as regular as clockwork, then my periods disappeared for about 5 months, then I had a period from hell for a couple of weeks, then nowt for months, then another. I think everyone is different - some can just disappear & others just become more & more haphazard for a few years. I would call it perimenopause. I read that before 50 if you haven't had one period in 12months then you are in menopause - 2 years after the age of 50 - or is it the other way round? Well - whatever. I think it's a transition & that can go on fior ages thinking you aint gonna have another, then wham.

Joyful - really sorry about the headaches. Can you get painkillers without the caffeine or aren't they as effective? Coffee is a bit of a remedy for headache - so it's a Catch 22 for you maybe? I was given a menthol stick thing in France that you rubbed on your temples. It was cold & made your eyes run & your sinuses unblocked so you had to blow & blow your nose & hey presto, your headache went - wish I hadn't lent it to someone & never got it back. It was in a turned wooden holder with screw on wooden cap - lovely item in its own right.
My ground is filled with teenage chicks that are ratherbeautiful to have around the place & I find myself just staring at them.
I've been a bit weepy at the prospect of another Winter in the caravan as it seems to have come so cold & we feel cheated out of Summer as it's been really wet here.
