Choliile, i know exactly how you feel, i have made another appt at the dr on saturday to see a different lady dr, but i feel like cancelling because i feel like a nuisance but we shouldn't feel this way if they did their jobs properly in the first place we wouldn't need to go back.
Be strong.

I think the hardest thing is that menopause isn't like a cold, nasty for a few days then gone. It can cause varying degrees of trouble over years.
The difficulty is all the other variables, if you are bleeding erraticaly or heavily that can be a sign of uterine polyps, fibroids or worse.
If you can't sleep and are tired and irritable it can be stress, depression or just life getting on top of you.
The worst thing is you book a GP appointment with one set or problems by the time you see someone they can have changed !
Really good suggestions from previous posters is to write down what you need to say or want to ask. Particularly if like me becoming forgetful is one of the biggest problems0 -
Thanks both.
I've cancelled the apointment as I can't face it - sounds pathetic, but I'm not in the mood for sitting in the waiting room & & & .....can't explain but I am starting to feel like a fraud & was starting to panic. I'm hopeless.0 -
oh Choille, wish i lived near you i would be more than happy to come with you, maybe have a rethink in a few days. i was thinking last night about cancelling my appt, but then i thought of my auntie who about 30 years ago ended up having a nervous breakdown and was in hospital for months , they put it down to the menopause...........i don't want to end up like that so am going to try and be strong and try and get something done about it.0

My first post on this thread
. 46 and starting the woes and throes of my 'hag' stage. Lol.
I went to GP as well about a month ago because of insomnia, flushes and age spots; on my FACE!!!!! aaargh! I have no need of bronzed as there are now big brown splodges on my cheeks and nose. My bf says they just look like giant freckles; Thanks!!
GP says; 'Sorry, you just have to ride it out' no HRT allowed now apparently!!
I have a Mirena coil which still has a few years left on it that I have to keep in for the duration now as well, just in case.
Worst thing at the mo' is being in Sorrento until tomorrow and the heat is horrendous! But we have AC in the room, which is bliss. I've been sleeping right through whilst BF shivers. Lol. I may have to look at the cost of getting a unit for my bedroom as it's been the first time in months that I've got full nights sleep. It could just save my sanity!
Start back at work (college) next week after 8 weeks off, and I'm going back to full time, as opposed to 17 hours a week, so that's going to be a killer as well.Noli nothis permittere te terere

hi Elise and welcome,
I know all about insomnia and flushes plus a couple of brown blotches on the face (slather on the concealer each day!). After 6 yrs of horrendous flushes my Dr recommended HRT and despite huge resistance I went with it. VERY surprised to hear yours won't consider it? 'Sorry you'll have to ride it out' WHAT!!! I have been told it's 5 yrs max with HRT. I've been a bit clever & discovered that if I break it into thirds it still keeps flushes at bay. It's helped hugely with the hellish flushing & life in general, although there's still plenty of other 'ageing' stuff popping up.
Do ask Dr about help with sleeping, specially as you are going to work full time. It's too much to do those hours and not be sleeping. Once again, I've succumbed to chemical assistance with sleeping & once again take as little as I possibly can. I've reached the point where I just have to accept help with this stuff if I'm to have any quality of life.
Nice to get a bit of sun down here in Kent. Last week with the Autumnal weather my aches & pains went into orbit.
Hope all other Menos are getting through it all OK. Hi Shykins! Choille, sorry to hear you're going through so much. So hard when you feel the Dr has given up on you."Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”0 -
Thanks Nickybat - I'll phone on Monday & see if I can get some advise over the phone. Was considering doing a joyful & taking a half tablet of the HRT that I've got still - I started a horrendous period when I took it the other month.
Welcome Eise - Your GP doesn't sound too helpful at all.
Joyful - I really don't know how you managed to stay sane the last few years. I'm really glad you got some respite from the flushing. I couldnt have handled it for a fraction of the time you put up with it.
The aches are back with the cooler weather here too & it's very wet - I think that makes your joints ache.
Got some herbal stuff off interweb - Menoquil - It was expensive but it said 120 tablets. I thought 3 months worth - as you would, but you had to take 2 in the morning & 2 at night. So not that great a deal plus they are the size of skittles:eek: - Hard not to chuck up when you are trying to get them down. I had a headache for a week, stopped taking them & the headache's gone. Now just soya, black cohoosh & other not harsh sounding stuff, but am pretty sure it was the tablets that gave me a headache.
Back to scratch - think I'll take a small bit of HRT starting tomorrow & see how I go on.
Thanks for listening - it means a lot.0 -
Choille, getting 4 skittles down your neck every day. EEEEK! that made me giggle. :rotfl: It's so disheartening to spend heaps on stuff that doesn't work. Good luck with HRT - small dose. Keep us posted, though you'll probably need to give it a while to see if you get the benefits without the unwanted bleeding."Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”0

Anyone tried acupuncture? I have a clinic on the corner of
my street and am thinking of giving it a go. May help me with weight loss as well.
Woke up at stupid o'clock with horrendous calf cramps. It's still aching now. I'm hoping it's from my flight home and NOT a new symptom!!!
Blissfully quiet at home right now as mum & dad haven't brought kids back yet so just enjoying me time. So rare nowNoli nothis permittere te terere

Just popping in here to say hello. I'm so sorry to our chums in here who are having a hard time with meno stuff. It is hard. It is harder still to try to describe it sometimes. I also think you could maybe take a note with you Choille - I've done it before with a dr quite a few years ago when I felt stuff getting on top of me. I thought talking to the dr might belittle things as I might end up putting a brave face on it, so I wrote it down instead. Thinking of you.
Hello to new folks. Friendly little meeting place in here. Wish it was like this in real life eh?
Am still back in land of monthly periods after having the meno breaks and symptoms (well, peri-meno I suppose). Have to get some more iron tablets this week as I think I'm a bit low in that again. Ho hum eh?
Take care all, and wishing nights of cool but not cold sleep. I'm still a hottie at night but it has saved me looking for an electric blanket now the nights are colder:dance:. DH finds me a bit hot to cuddle up to - this is me who was always freezing cold.
Off to make soup with my bargain 49p bag of spinach from Lid!.
