Think I'm going to keep the pregnancy, not totally 100% just need to think about myself and how we would cope and work things out, have an appointment with the advisors at uni next week to see how things could pan out for me. Don't want to stress out too much as anything could happen in this first trimester. Thinking about it too much is only going to make me more anxious and confused I think but I have a good feeling about all of this :)

Oh Im such a soppy mare, I read this and started crying at my desk. Had to pretend it was a coughing fit!
Good luck and all the best OP. It'll work out fine! x x

LM - Really babies don't need much and some stuff they use for suck a short period of time. For example my cousin had twins in mid July, I'm due in February. We have already had phonecalls asking if we need newborn boys clothes, 0-3 boys clothes, moses basket etc. My dd2 is 2 now and her bouncer seat and bumbo has been around 2 babies since her and will be filtering its way back here just after christmas. Ebay and car boot sales plus charity shops are worth a look. This baby will have a bugaboo pram, I spotted it in a local cancer research shop, I wanted one with dd1 but at £800+ it was way too much money, went and had a look, absolutly spotless seat unit, pram unit rain covers foot muff and all the bits like aprons and foot muffs. Drool and they wanted £80 for it. I must of looked a right plum pushing an empty pram back to my car but hey it was a bargain and i'm so pleased with it.

Yes I have 2 DD already but my outlays have been £80 on a pram, £10 on bottles because i can't breast feed, £10 on a steriliser from boots but i used my advantage card points. Joined boots baby club for the free changing bag. £2.75 on some sleepsuits for in hospital and £2 on maternity pads for my hospital bag.
Asda does a baby week that finished on Sunday, last time they had a newborn starter kit reduced to £3 which had a pack of 27 nappies a hat plus £4 coupons for more nappies.

I will of bought all essentials plus some not so essential bits on under £200 but i have a cot, Ikea cot + matress is about £60 i think and someone you know might have a spare/old one so you will just need a new matress.

Hi guys, thanks for the encouragement and support! I'm just wondering how any of the girls who had babies during uni managed rent if they differed? I'm not sure if I could get maternity pay at my job, my test said 2-3 last week so I guess that puts me at 4-5 weeks?? I've been working there since June 4th so if anyone could give any insight that would be amazing thanks xx
  • 4-5 weeks is about right if test said 2-3:D
Linky about SMP....you'll qualify for it:D even if you didn't you could still get maternity allowance which is paid at the same rate as SMP:)

If you have more questions about being pg..pop over to the -12week pg thread, plenty of lovely ladies waiting for their 1st scan there and can answer lots of your questions..also pop into the pg thread too :) we're not as scary as it seems:p:D

Congartulations to you and your fella:T:T

One thing's for sure if we all waited till we had enough money before starting a family the human race would die out. You will never have enough money for your kids. But in a way that's a good thing or you'll end up with a Paris Hilton on your hands!

    Good luck to you all

    :)
  • Hi it looks like youve made up your mind which is great and know youve had enough words of wisdom but just wanted to say your comment re grandparents disgust rang alarm bells - you will resent them more (in my case parents) if you feel you are making the decision just to keep everyone else happy. I made a decision i regret whilst at uni, as my ex was perduading me, along with my parents who said they would basically disown me. topped with no money i made a stupid choice which although i am gnerally happy with life, i do regret and think and wonder a lot. I might of made the same choice if the decision was purely mine but i'll never know. So just want to say i know you already have but dont listen to others you need to be selfish and make your own choice, whats best for you, in the long run. Anyway it sounds like congratulations are in order :D PS i dont know about rent and money etc but i know uni's are generous re stretching deadlines for assignments etc during stressful times (which my ex took advantage of and i didnt grrrrrrrr) so may help stay at uni whilst pregnant

I remember seeing some very interesting statistics on the number of "premature" babies that used to be born at six months gestation and weight 9lbs to newlyweds, back when nobody had any premarital sex whatsoever at all oh no certainly not.

yep my dad was a 10lb premature baby

Me too, however l'm guessing they thought of the story of Jesus, the immaculate conception? ;)

LM90, Please PROMISE me you'll do what YOU want, not what your other half or your grandparents want if they think differently to you?

I think the worst thing you could do here is have an abortion when you're not 100% sure and are swayed by other people, you will regret that believe me.

Regardless of what your grandparents say or think l'm sure they will be excited about this one day soon.

I don't think anyone has an abortion when feeling 100% sure.

Also, does the father not have a say at all? The foetus/baby has, and will always have, 50% of his genetic makeup. He should have an EQUAL say, but not a greater or lesser say.
