Thanks for the advice re curtains and doors off freecycle. Tbh I think they are only about £20 from B&Q so shouldn't be too much of a hardship. It's just a pain not having a car doing these things that's all as have to pay extra for a cab etc, that's why I've been putting it off and why I quite often don't do big things on freecycle. But now that cold snaps are around the corner I shall make it a priority!
flowertotmum, my hoover bit the dust too - but I think it just needs a new fan belt. Might be worth checking with yours before you condemn it?2015 wins: Jan: Leeds Castle tickets; Feb: Kindle Fire, Years supply Ricola March: £50 Sports Direct voucher April: DSLR camera June: £500 Bingo July: £50 co-op voucher0 -
Thanks for the offers Sammy, great stuff:)
Just come back from my local charity shop, well chuffed, i got three lovely Next tops and a Viyella top for me, a Ben Sherman shirt for DD's BF for Xmas, a lovely Jonelle cushion with a feather inside bit (i have a thing about cushions!!) all for £15.75. They all look really new as well, I have better clothes now than when i was working!!
TBH feel a bit guilty as strictly speaking I don't need any more clothes but couldn't resist0 -
No worries all
Fingers crossed the coop offers can come in useful to someone. Think I might go and get some more of the ICBIN Butter and freeze it.
Am debating something though and would like an opinion.
A friend of mine down the school - another mum has a little girl and she has given me about 3 bags of beautiful immaculate baby girl clothes so as a thank you I wanted to get her a present. Only problem is I know she has been working out really hard at Zumba classes and she is really enjoying it so a box of chocolates might not be the way to go --- I did think about the coop offer but now reconsidering it --- thinking perhaps a little smellies/pampering set would be a good idea instead. What do you think??Time to find me again0 -
I think if you really want to get her something then buy a wee minding for her little girl. I know for me personally I would not expect anything except a smile and a thank you, but if the recipient wanted to do something, then thinking of my kids would go a long way for me.It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

I totally agree a gift for her daughter would be lovely.
Am feeling awful today, shivering and feeling very nauseous, DS6 off school having been ill this morning so looks like the lurgy about to strike our household again!! Got to clean oven tomorrow, as it is vile so thinking of dousing stuff in it tonight to soak, cant decide between oven pride, stardrops or bicarb with vinegar. Any suggestions?
From am OS point of view at least I have spent nothing today!!
Rant alert!!
Why do schools all have different days for holidays?? I have four kids at three schools and its half term next week but three kids (two schools) break up Thurs but the fourth is still in school, then after half term one of them is back on the monday whereas the others are Tues. This means that I am still going to have to get everyone up and out early on Friday and the MOnday too, not to mention the upset from DS6 on Friday when he discovers he is only one going to school, or DD4 on the monday when she realises she the only one going in!! WHy they have to make it so complicated??

Totally understand your rant about the schools and half-term holidays kidcat. It's the same here for me. It's especially hard to understand when the different schools are in the same vicinity and the primary school my youngest goes to is the feeder school for one of the secondary schools, so obviously kids from the same families are at some time or another at both schools!!! Phew!!! Why don't they talk to each other?!! Lindy loo when you are in Poundland, pick up some of there own version of Calpol and their cough linctus as it's quite good and you've guessed, only a pound!!0

Thats what makes it even worse one of the schools is the high school who are currently running the primary school due to poor ofsted!! So staff are shared etc - it makes no sense to have diff days at all.0 -
Kidcat, now that's total madness!!!0

Hi everyone, coming out of lurkdom here (posted on the old thread a few times) as i need a bit of advice. I fel a bit cheeky only coming on to aask advice but i wanted to ask people who are sensible about money and being frugal as when i posted this on another forum they agreed with my friend and that i was in the wrong
My friend is getting married at the end of Dec and is arranging her hen do for the beginning of Dec, its a package including a meal, caberet and overnight stay, plus it'd cost for travel and drinks etc so looking at well over £100
I've said i can't afford to go, we need a few things doing on the house before winter sets in (new guttering and 2 radiators replacing) plus we've got DD's birthday this week and xmas coming up. Now shes taken the huff about it, saying that she came to my hen do and everyone else is making the effort just not me
Yes she did come to my hen do but mine was a meal at the local indian then into town afterwards and she only came to the meal as did quite a few others because of money/babysitters. If she was doing similar then i'd definitely go for the meal but i'll be 25 weeks pregnant by then and i dont want to go out on the town. Another friend can't come as they can't get the time off work and shes fine with that but says if i really wanted to come i'd find the money. From where? The money tree out back?
Am i a bad friend or is she over-reacting?She's not a close friend, we mainly see each other to let the kids play and have a natter so more of a friend/accquintance.
Again sorry to come on and post so selfishly but i would value your advice on the matter as you all talk a lot of sense. I always read the thread and keep up with the goings on, just dont feel like i have much to add
