Also may be worth contacting limo companies and people like that, my daughter just had her prom info and most girls are shopping already, included was info about limos etc, which all the girls are looking into to share, just thinking that if you had a reciprocal agreement with a few companies, when they get an enquiry they could throw your leaflet into the mix and you could do the same for them.
I being very MSE am not even considering prom stuff yet, and am sort of hoping my wedding dress can be adapted instead (it was red velvet) .0 -
TR, I used to do a lot of wedding favours whe I made soap - and I got some big wholesale orders from Trade Fairs (wedding fairs). It was free to go if you were registered as a business, and you get talking to people and make contacts . Take some cards.0

I don't want it to get colder
I'm really thinking I'll need a new winter coat this year. I was put off two years ago when DH bought me a nice one for Christmas and paid quite a bit to get it from a good shop and still the buttons dropped off repeatedly and it fell to bits in no time...it also wasn't really that warm! I went back to my 8 year old duffle coat but even that has a hole in the sleeve where some idiot with a cigarette walked into me, the lining is ripped and pilling and it's looking it's age (I got my money's worth though, 7 winters for £60 isn't too bad IMO). I do have my "snow" coat but again it's about 8 years old, looking it's age and is too warm unless it's below zero because it is so thick. ARGH. I don't know, I don't want to spend but I do want to be warm and look reasonably smart. I'm currently still battling away with my cotton mac style coat but it takes an age to dry if it gets rained on and it isn't really big enough in the sleeves to wear a thick jumper or fleece under and isn't warm enough to go without.
I really feel the cold, my fingers are like little blocks of ice todayI don't want it to get colder!! We are battling on though without the central heating, it has been on but not often and not for long.

So I have ordered
a 15kg bag of senior IAMS dog food -- £37.78
a Halti in Size 1 -- £8.23
Box of Markies (for training) -- £2.18
A Jumbone (as a treat) -- £1.78
£49.97!:D:D
Hoping Holly will go for a nap - shes been a grumpy little mare all morning . Has me up every two hours - not funny.have given her banana and apple breakfast this morning though which she seemed to enjoy. Think its time Holly started having a rusk bottle for supper too!

LAMBANA - I know the feeling honey. I feel the cold too - I brought myself a hoody for £14.99 with a voucher I had for my birthday back in July and I'm that cold that I have it on all day now and in the mornings with my PJS - bright blue PJs and a grey hoody - very fetching for OH I must say.
OH brought me and him a heavy black Mr Darcy style coat each (obviously mine is more girly!) but its so heavy and weighs a tonne when it gets wet. He brought me that Christmas 2007 and I love it. Then last year after I complained I needed a waterproof coat to go walking mutt in he brought em a Regatta one in the sale - still not as waterproof as I'd like but its lush and keeps me warm - plus just big enough to get a hoody under. Hoping if I find any spare pennies this month I will be able to buy a big fleece so I will be able to put Holly in her carrier and then the fleece over the top so we are both kept snuggly and warm.Time to find me again0 -
I'm trying to read through this thread but it's updated soooo fast. I lurked a bit on the old one & then lost you all. I'm only at about page 30.
Annie, I'm waiting with bated breath for the updates on your hunk, sounds like the perfect man, me lover. I almost choked on my tea when I read what you said to the floozie in the garage, pure class.
Sammy I'm glad that your OH seems to have come to his senses, long may it continue.
I can't remember who has family in Greece, but that post I read yesterday, & like most of us I expect cried, I hope that your sister is able to keep strong and that her children get back to full health. My daughter had an accident last year & was in hospital in Spain for a month, I wasn't sure that she would make it at times, the most absolutely horrific thing in life is your children being ill & you being unable to do much other than moral support. My heart & prayers go out to you all.
Does anyone have these fan things on their rads,http://www.thesuperfoodco.co.uk/radiator-booster-mk2-save-money-on-heating-bills-p-807.html & do they save money?
At the moment big brands for less http://www.bigbrandsforless.co.uk/ has plain flour for £1 for 12 bags, it doesn't say the size but when added to the cart the weight is 5.94 kg, also 12.5kg vegetable suet for £3.50. Shipping is £5.25 for 28kg.
Ideal cheapy way to bulk out meals with either dumplings, baked suet pudding, suet pastry, or steamed puds. much quicker as well than rubbing in fat.
I had their baked beans, bacon & lentil soup, lemon & ginger stirfry sauce, scone mix & pickled onions the other week when they had 200%free.
The beans are 15 tins for £1, huge spag hoops tins, for 40p.
I threw a tin of the soup, baked beans & cheap tin aduki beans, stir fry jar, (just the contents I hasten to add) in with the stock from chicken carcass the other day with some veg & lentils & ended up with about 30 portions of lovely thick soup for around 70pence. I think a mug of that a couple times a day will definitely keep the winter chills out. Along with a roll made from the bread mix from Approved food when it was 89p for 3.5kg.
How did I manage before I came on this site & found all these money saving ways?
I've got to go to B&Q soon & get something to draught proof my front door, I bought some huge velvet curtains in the summer, when other people were thinking about bikinis, from ebay for about a fiver & one of the door curtain rods, that raise when you open the door. I want to get some play sand as well & make draught excluders for the bottom of the doors.
Can anyone suggest a way to block the gaps between exposed floorboards? The draught that comes up through lifts the rug at times. I don't know if papier mache would work? I'm not very good with using the guns for builders caulk as my hands are a bit feeble.
I don't know if Primark are doing them this year but last winter my Aunt bought fleece sleeping bags for around £4 each in there.
Anyway I have usual wittered on far toooooo much for my first post.0 -
JoJoB - I don't think you're going wrong with your house versus your friend's rented property. Take the long term view. In twenty years time your friend could still be in a rented property with no assets to her name and 20 years rent down the drain. By then your property will have increased in value and your mortgage will be almost paid off and you will have a valuable asset. But it's horses for courses, and the early years can be tough.
Sadly it won't be mine as we're on an interest only mortgage!
That's the conundrum at the moment - do we stay here and stick it out in a small 2 bedroom flat when we want another child and it will just be too small and cramped - for the sake of a profit in 15 years? or live for now in those 15 years in surroundings which will be more suited to a family?
I'm torn between being sensible and planning for longer term and thinking "life's too short"! We simply don't have enough income for a repayment mortgage or to pay into pensions etc, so my thinking is just don't worry about it. But then with all these cuts maybe I should? I'm 40 next year and I just feel too jaded to live in a flat I can't afford to do repairs on - it's going to start falling down around us soon!
Although looking at that Daily Mail article has galvanised me a bit. Only our living room has a heater, but has no door, so really must somehow find the money to put a door on so we can get properly cosy. I do so wish my OH was DIY oriented but it's me in charge of these jobs, and I'm a bit rubbish.
I think I will stop worrying about everything now and at least clean the place. :cool:2015 wins: Jan: Leeds Castle tickets; Feb: Kindle Fire, Years supply Ricola March: £50 Sports Direct voucher April: DSLR camera June: £500 Bingo July: £50 co-op voucher0 -
Youngmummy - Feel free to rant my love, we've all probably been there with interfering/judgemental in laws. But to be honest, you sound as though your doing incredibly well (a lot better than some 'mature' people I've met.) Just grit your teeth, smile sweetly and let it all fall of you. I think your doing great, a lot better than I would have done at your age.The problem with common sense is its not very common:rotfl:

Not sure if folk on here are aware of this campaign, it's trying to implement tiny tax on bankers that would give billions to tackle poverty and climate change, here and abroad. It seems to be gathering momentum ....http://robinhoodtax.org.uk/uncategorized/robin-hood-goes-back-to-parliament/0
