Weddings, hen nights and stag dos have all gone bonkers, I know people who have a week away, followed by a weekend and a big party too, all expensive locations and with expensive activities. What sane person sees this as a good idea at this time? I had friends round to my house for buffet and drinks, it was relaxing and fun.
I have a relative who this time last year was engaged and had a big wedding booked and all the outfits bought etc, she split with him by end Oct, she is now living with someone else had a baby with him, and planning another huge wedding complete with all new outfits etc. Next she tells me how in debt they are?? What is going on with people?0 -
Blimey, what forum were you on, Kate, where they all agreed with your friend? I find it amazing that no-one said you were right!
Don't go - stay home and keep warm instead!

If I may wander slightly off topic....remember I was thinking of giving my buddliea a severe cut back? Well I did over the weekend, and I've chucked all the cuttings into my empty pond, along with several fruit and veggie peelings and tea bags in an attempt to make some decent compost for the bottom of the pond.
It's a bit late to have only now thought of this - but the cuttings all had the flower heads in tact, albeit dead, but what I'm wondering, is that, although the heads weren't at the seed stage, am I likely to have copious amounts of buddliea seedlings spring up when I eventually add proper earth/compost to the mix?
It's such a prolific grower, that I'm wondering, do I need to hoik it all out of the pond (and there's a hell of a lot of it) and cut all the heads off and dispose of them some other way?Aug11 £193.29/£240

Hello all
Have been applying for jobs all weekend and today; doesn't seem to be any NHS jobs out there, so have had to go private. It means more money if I get one of them, and 3 day weeks, so it's not all bad
Am currently battling with my CV. As I've always worked for either myself or my parents, I've needed one, and I'll be the first to admit that it looks a bit sparse. Now my personal statement however, rocks!
And on top of all it, I've just got over 3 weeks of illness, and now I think I'm coming down with tonsillitis . I have some penicillin left over from earlier in the year so I've taken that - I know it's bad and naughty, but I last time it lasted for 3 weeks and I turned up every day on placement feeling like death; I don't want to try that again.0 -
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:fabulous mental pic of you wrestling with a load of triffid like buddleia heads all trying to crawl out of the pond bottom..:rotfl:0

......I've said i can't afford to go....... Now shes taken the huff about it, saying that she came to my hen do and everyone else is making the effort just not me
......Am i a bad friend or is she over-reacting?
She's not a close friend, we mainly see each other to let the kids play and have a natter so more of a friend/accquintance.
I would stick to your guns and tell her you are not going. If you are't playing a major role in the wedding, then I think she is really being a bit bridezilla to expect everyone to find spare cash when you have much more valid things to spend it on.0 -
lilmisskitkat wrote: »Thank you so much for all the replies, i feel lots better now. I suppose i just dont have much confidence in my own decisions and seek reassurance a lot that i'm doing the right thing
Had similar earlier this year (gosh dont have much luck with other people's weddings lol) when my cousin decided to get married abroad and got the huff because not everyone in the family went. She was all "Oh its only 2k  for the week and you can make it your holiday this year"
Erm, our holiday this year was a caravan in Norfolk for the week and we scrimped and saved for that lol, never mind 2k, passports, clothes etc :rotfl:
Thanks again all, now i've broken the 'lurker' ice i'd like to post more often if thats ok, all these price increases etc have got me worried

Come on in, I only de-lurked a wee while ago but they seem very nice on here and there are loads of really good tips to help with the budget. Don't get worried, get busy!0 -

I'm so sorry, I wish I was able to say this more gently and tactfully and still get the message across but it is not just a bad idea for your own health, but for the general population too as it leads to bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics. It's not the only reason, but it is a major reason all the same. I'm taking the risk of upsetting or offending you in the hope that even one person might understand just how big a problem this is. If anyone wants any information about it, PM me. My Mum spent the end of her life on an MRSA ward and this wouldn't have been necessary if we hadn't played fast and loose with antibiotics (am guilty of having done it myself before I knew the problems). Sorry again - I know I've come on a bit strong with this.
I wish you the very best of luck jobhunting and I hope you are better soon.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

No offense taken at allI know exactly what you mean, and I'm of the same opinion. However, at this present time, with 5 weeks to go on my placement and a presentation to prepare and present during this, I cannot afford 3 weeks off ill, or at work and feeling like death warmed up. If the situation was different and I wasn't where I am at presently, I would take it on the chin and tough it out - that's what I did last time.
I just can't this time; I'm run down, I'm fed up, I'm feeling ever so slightly depressed, and I can't face more illness.
I'm so sorry to hear about your mum; I have seen people on the MRSA wards and have nursed them too as part of my training, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: your poor OH, he's just my long suffering one. He just gives me the look now whenever he see me with a hammer, never mind a drill!
lindyloo hope they haven't sold out here too. OH hasn't been paid yet so just waiting for that too come through before i can buy out. ouch thats quite a hike for calpol. I know boots sell an own brand version of calpol which is a fraction of the price and its really goo. Might be worth seeing if thats any good.
great bargains lovelife
sammy hmm how about a bunch of flowers or a little smelly set with a scented candle. You can't beat a hot soak.
lilmisskitkat Its a hard one but i would say look i'm going to be 25 weeks pregnant and i don't think it would be a good ideaif i went as i would uncomfortable in case i slipped and hurt myself. I'm really genuinely sorry. How about i treat you to a special meal instead, that way we still celebrate it together. Hope that makes sense.
Ken Loach is an amazing director and very understated. I have watched many of his films and enjoyed them all. Just enjoyed watching him getting under Heseltines skin! The tories are absolutely psychotic with the views expressed by this dinosaur of a politician.
Well went to the physio and spent a whopping £10.50 on travel  getting to and for, can't believe how expensive it was. But snips (ds2) has hyper-mobility sensitivity and needs to be properly so just waiting for that to come through now. The staff where shocked that he put his legs around his head without hurting himself. So yes my boys are very flexible and skinny, unlike their ahem mother ahem.
so just need to buy him some solid shoes, to help him with his balance.
But its seems were sorted out for pack lunches made two big quiches, one large jam tart, half of which has gone and four mini tarts so that all good. tomorrow going to sort the freezer out, i think its gone again. So going to look over parli road for a freezer and fridge. Don't think i put it off any longer, sadly.0
