    Wow, this thread moves fast!

Annie, that is so brilliant! Just goes to show there ARE some decent types out there. My brother's friend married a chap of 40 who still lived with his parents  and we all said, watch out, he's bound to be gay/have people buried under the floorboards/not be safe around sheep etc. but ten years later they are still happily married , now with kids; he'd just had hard times in the younger part of his life which meant he hadn't got married when most of his contemporaries had...

Can't believe these people who think everyone should shell out to come to their tacky "dos" - my hen night consisted of all my work colleagues coming to my flat. I provided all the food and drink and all they had to pay was the tube fare - we all still had a brilliant time.

I went to a wedding some years ago where the wedding list was a bit like you describe - cheapest thing on it was whiskey glasses... at £50 EACH. We had to club together with three other couples to make a decent present among us. My friend went to one where the cheapest thing was a TEASPOON at £100... it reminds me of Four Weddings and a Funeral with Hugh Grant talking to the snotty woman in the shop with the wedding list... ah, I rant... when I got married, I had a vast number of £5 and under presents from Argos on my list,
as well as the more expensive ones!

Anyway, off to sigh like a romantic fool over Annie's news - will catch up again in another four million posts tomorrow...

Hello.... blimey you lot can talk!!! I find it difficult to get on at the weekend and it's pretty much taken me the whole day to catch up!
Annie56, good for you, I really, really hope it all works out for you.
I've been busy... 3 job interviews since last Wednesday. Didn't get the first one, the second one was no good.... there was a mix up with the agency and the job involved staying away from home which I can't do, but they liked me so much they've created a short term consultancy post for me, which would be an ego boost in any circumstances but in the age of cuts is extraordinaroly flattering. I had another one today for a 5 month contract which is less money but 3 miles from where I live, as opposed to 40 miles and the severn bridge every day. So, I just have to wait and see what comes of the one I went to today. It's a lower level than I've been working at and they did ask me 'why on earth do you want this job', but hopefully they understood that the job market isn't exactly bouyant at the moment.
Anyway, I'm sitting here with a fleecey jumper wrapped around my feet, I couldn't be bothered to go downstairs and fill up my hot water bottle!
I've fallen off the mse wagon a bit recently and need to get back on... mealplanning and a visit to the pound shop are the order of the day tomorrow!

Wow AnnieG, that's fab news about the job and a very nice ego boost. :T

Good luck to everyone jobhunting, it's so tough out there.

Hi fiftyeighter  , I'm new to this thread too, don't feel I've been here long enough to welcome people since I'm only a blow-in myself! I wasn't as polite as you, just barged in like a bull in a china shop. :o But these are nice people so I havent' been booted off!

I missed the Snowdonia 1890 programme on BBC Wales earlier but will watch the next episode. Did anyone catch it this evening? I love anything along the lines of how they coped in the old days. They had it a lot tougher than us so I usually feel very lucky after watching something like that.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

  • Hi NualaBuala, Thanks for that. Yes your right everyone does seem so lovely. I missed that program too. I also love all that sort of thing. Mind you I was born in 1950 and one of 15 children:eek: so things were very hard then. But sometimes i do think as hard as it is i'm lucky compared to my poor mum.( bless)i still miss her very much. I absoloutly adore all these threads, they are so helpfull, funny and sometimes sad. but everyone seems to genually care.
God thats a bit of a rant isn't it. once again thankyou.
