SAmmy-Kaye.... is she teething? Bit early but you never know!... THe other thing I could suggest is try to alter her sleeping pattern slightly so she doesn't have the late nap at teatime ish and then a bath and bed a little earlier..... I found with my two that they got into their own routine (not imposed by me I hasten to add) and they slept through the night until they started teething until they were about 2ish. Is she warm enough/too warm in bed as that tends to wake them up.... Its so hard when the little dears can't tell you and you have to guess!

Good luck with court Annie56!! and anyone else that needs it!

Annie, that is so funny about playing the message to the floozy, you go girl!

Sammy - are you really weaning at 13 weeks? That's very early! I had it drummed into me by the feeding police that it had to be around the 6 month mark. Is she extraordinarily hungry? :D

Well yesterday was a bit of an OS failure. Made carrot and coriander soup but it didn't taste as nice as it should so adulterated with cumin and gram masala. Now it just tastes weird. I was trying to be frugal by using up a bag of frozen carrots that I wouldn't eat otherwise (I just don't think frozen carrots taste nice), but now have a massive pan of inedible soup! Oh well. To make me feel better I bought a pack of biscuits (nomnom) and some cheap icecream (horrible stuff with so much air whipped into it it was like mousse). Then I felt fat and bloated all night wondering why I ate all that carp when I am trying to lose weight!

Plan to do a flylady this morning, then take my loose change to the bank. Do they still exchange loose change for notes? I seem to remember them being a bit snooty about it last time.

Then will use said wonga to take DD swimming with a friend and give everyone lunch at mine - pasta and hm tomato sauce should be a passable frugal meal for all I think!

Just reading through this thread and noticed the postings about the christmas hampers, I remember my parents doing this for my grandparents in the 70's, and its something I enjoy doing now. Last year for my dad I made him a freezer hamper as he is on his own and doesn't cook mince, stew etc so I made 3lb mince,3lb stewing steak, 3lb sausages into a casserole, big pot of lentil soup, pot of tatty soup divided it all up into single portions, bought frozen veg and frozen aunt bessies mashed potatoes, along with a few freezer pudding treats. He said it was great as he didnt have to worry about going out in the bad weather but knew he had good wholesome food to keep him going. I have done some topping up over the year, but I am fully intending doing the same again this year, as I am sure the way things are going his pension will be needing to stretch further, and things will get harder for the oldies. Other members of the family make up store cupboard hampers with tins, tea coffee etc. I work in a pharmacy and get a good 25% discount so I also make up a hamper of lozenges, different types of cough medicines, paracetamol and his cod liver oil tablets, as these can be costly out of a pension, and with VAT increasing from January they will increase slightly also. As he says he has everything he needs in the way of household effects, ornaments clothing etc so this is a way of making sure that when things do get tougher it will not be so hard on him for the necessities..

Brilliant idea, we used to do a store cupboard hamper for DH parents to help them out, also putting in a couple of treat items that they wouldn't normally get.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.

stars&moon - I'd start publicising early that your 40th birthday present to yourself is going to be a new bathroom and for that reason you're opting out of expensive parties but that all your friends are welcome to come and spend an evening in your new bubble bath drinking a glass of champagne !!

Good idea! I will have to use a chemical camping loo for a couple of days while its being done but it will be worth it and Im doing a lot of the work myself eek! I have booked a holiday for next year but its in the school hols and at a very nice holiday village in England.

Il toast my 40th on my new loo instead of being stressed to death trying to go abroad in darkest January!

I think this whole business of Hen Nights and Stag Nights is getting out of hand, especially when weddings are so expensive these days, both for those who are having them, and those who are attending, especially if they involve travel and overnight stays, as well as a present.

If she's getting huffy about it, that's her outlook. I wouldn't enter into any further arguments. Just say that your family finances don't permit it at the moment, especially on top of a wedding present. Maybe some other people are dropping out too for financial reasons. Stick to your guns.

completely agree, for our's we had a joint hen & stag do as a BBQ at home we did food & everyone else brought either pudding, booze or some fireworks for us to set off at night, doubt it cost us £50 in total.

I'm another one who didn't have a hen night as such, just went for a quiet meal then back home again with some friends, DH went abroad BUT his friends paid for it and he didn't ask to go or anything and they didn't do anything that wasn't affordable to everyone. We didn't get in debt for our wedding but we still had a nice venue, a good meal, drinks and dancing with all the people we care about and wanted to share the day with. I saved money by making all my own invitations, the table plan and even made my own bouquet (used artificial flowers due to dreadful allergies!), I did my own make up (but paid a hairdresser as I'm rubbish with my hair! I didn't pay as much as some women though) and did super cheap table decs by buying very cheap vases from Ikea which were less than 40p each and filling them with daffodils from the market which cost about £5 in total for enough for all the tables and all round the room and we asked people to take them home with them. It was a lovely day.

I made a decision on my coat, I'm going to stick with what I have. I went and had a look in the shops after work last night and everything was so expensive for not very good quality. My old duffle coat is 70% wool and the lining has 10% wool (the rest is acrylic and nylon) and it's so warm. I couldn't find anything under £100 that was more than 50% wool and lots were much less and some were £60 but 100% polyester. No thank you! I'll stick with my trusty duffle coat and sew up the hole in the lining and have another look in the January sales to see if any of the better quality coats have been reduced to a more affordable price.
