Well - it didnt take the U.S. long to go tit for tat - ie "you've just published a list of what we regard as OUR assets - even though they arent...." so the Swiss bank where he keeps his money/Wikileaks' money has just told him he cant have an account with them for his/their assets. Think they've frozen them - though I presume he has contingency plans. Its like watching a game of virtual chess....
I thought that was the whole point of Swiss bank accounts - ie as safe and private as its possible to get....(not that I'd know - as my one and only bank account is in Britain....).
EDIT: For anyone trying to use it - apparently Paypal is "down"...

Anyways - on an O.S. tack - done my normal shopping today and seen absolutely no signs of depleted shelves...though I have to admit I've never ever spotted that in my area (got to have some blimmin' advantages to paying through the nose to live here I suppose...).
What is the situation like for everyone else? Has everyone got what they need (in that MSE storecupboard and/or been able to do normal level shopping with no problem)?0 -
modern_millie wrote: »Hello all. I've been following this thread for a while and you seem a lovely bunch of people - you're keeping me going through the winter doldrums. This is my first post on any forum (bit of a technophobe) but it's starting to feel a bit creepy just reading and not contributing. Things are tight with us - self, DH and teen DD -more than usual this year, partly due to a series of car disasters - Gailey and I think Mardatha, I sympathise - and I think we're poised for another. Wipers on my car have stopped today and last time this happened (previous car) it cost a fortune for a new motor. Have a horrible feeling I might have caused this by accidentally switching them on when they were iced up. Hey ho. Trip to the garage tomorrow I expect. I can do cooking from scratch, demon shopping, etc. but car mechanics a non starter! Fear windscreen wipers could be my Xmas present this year.
Parsons wife - loved the pic of the snow table. Is it still there?
Welcome modern millie:)
No, the snow table is no more, as the snow melted 2 days ago.
There is ice on the pavements and the drive in our close and black snow and ice on the sides of all the roads, where people have shovelled snow out of their driveways.:(Felines are my favourite

Seasalt, LOVE the wormcast costume idea - how great is that? No risk of anyone else in the same costume! Bet she'll remember it always.
Ceridwen, my SiL in rural Co Durham reported no bananas for 11 days - bit like wartime! Also shortages of bread and milk as usual.0 -
Ooops, meant to say thanks for the replies and welcome.0

Hi modern millie,
like you I love this thread, although more a lurker than a poster. Just wanted to say that my mum's wipers stopped working this morning when she accidentally left them on whilst she was de-icing the car. We checked her car manual and worked out which fuse was for the wipers and when I pulled it out it had blown, got a replacement fuse from Halfords (2pack cost £1.79) and thankfully working now. The lady in Halfords said that it was quite common for fuses to blow with the cold weather and in particular in Ford cars - that being said my mum's Ford is 7 years old and this has never happened before.
Hope this might be of some help

Waffles with maple syrup - hmmmm....cor missus....think I'll save that one for special treat...as it sounds rather fattening...whooops...though I DO have some maple syrup in and its about time I tried it out for something..
Re hubby - I'd never encountered the comment about "fluffing off" until I found MSE. Well - I think telling him to "fluff off" on this one would be appropriate. On the other hand you could point out to him that if its apparently "meant to be" that the Op was cancelled - then just how does he explain all the other operations the NHS cancels so frequently then? ....and there was me thinking its down to lack of resources...
I've had several ops. and never had any of them cancelled - though 2 of them were NHS ones - but I've certainly seen it happen more than once to people I know:mad:. Very annoying (indeed) - when you've gone and psyched yourself up for it....
EDIT: Got my knickers in a twist there - correction...one of the Ops was NHS-funded - so have only been "at risk" of cancellation once - but that was quite a few years ago now before en masse cancellations we've been having the last few years.....
Get yer facts straight ceridwen - note to self....
:rotfl:ceridwen i love you..you make me smile everyday:A...i pointed out to Mr ftm that maybe its a sign his dad is getting better as they cancelled his blood transfusion today as well:o:D..was getting rather annoyed with him when i did that:mad:..not nice of me but had to make sure we are still on the same page with what i'm doing...its amazing how he changes his mind..i hope they do it soon before he manages to talk me out of it...he has some valid points..but then so do i...such as heartburn, swollen feet, pain and yet more pain:D..
As for the waffles...what can i say..they are lovely covered in maple syrup...you have to have more than one to appreciate them:D...
As for the "fluffing" it means i can swear out loud and no-one bats an eyelid:rotfl::o..
Welcome to modernmillie..hi there..the ladies on here are great...:)
take care all..

Arrgghh! I've just cancelled OH's DD for his motorbike insurance by accident!
It doesn't mean that the insurance isn't there, it means that we'll be charged £10 for missing a payment. Having said that, the insurance company have overcharged him by £10 last month..
Does anyone know what I can do about this? It was coming out of his account, and I'm not mentioned on the policy. I have e-mailed them but I don't know what else to do.. He's away until the middle of next week.
Help!

Can you ask the bank to re-instate the DD? I cancelled the wrong DD a few weeks back, and the bank sorted it within a few minutes for me.
Have had such a busy day and am dropping now, got up this morning to find a good three/four inches of snow, took me ages getting the car out and traffic was awful, called school and explained we were going to be late, crawled through traffic, until we got out of our area, and found no snow at all, by the time we got to school it was thick fog, but no snow, I swear school thought I was making it up!! Managed some shopping then dashed home to grab the camera and off to watch DD4 in her first school play - an angel, in a dress six sizes too big, I appreciate she is tiny but if they had mentioned the dress would fit her several times over and leave enough material to run her up a summer wardrobe too, I would have adjusted it for her. She looked angelic and lovely, and I was very proud. (And I brought the dress home to adjust before tomorrows performance - dont want her falling over it again!)
Am utterly shocked at the lack of stock on the shelves - we have not had the sort of snowfall other areas have had, and deliveries are getting though - yet there is no bread on the shelves and people are buying huge amounts - it strikes me as being wasteful, as alot of it will end up uneaten, many people today were talking about buying it just in case - even though they do not have sufficient freezer space - bread has a relatively short life, so its likely to end up binned. Surely this cant make sense?
Am going to funeral tomorrow, apparently my mum will be travelling in the limos with the wife:eek::eek::eek:, is it wrong to be kind of hoping one of the kids get sick and I can miss it??:D:D The florist I sent them too has been brilliant and has had special flowers flown in:eek::eek::eek:, although she says if I ever send her anything that complicated again she will poison all the flowers in my garden:rotfl:, so I guess its been a difficult one all round.
Gailey - great to see you back and welcome to all the new faces.0
