So I see - I've put my "tin hat" on waiting for the fallout from that to "hit the fans".... I dont like him as a man - and I still want to see a "full spread" of countries having leaks done about them - not just a smallish group of. Make it totally "fair" all round - so that they have all had leaks out about them.

One silver lining to all this is that I think the Internet as a whole may well end up having back-up of all vital functions. Maybe that exists already - and we havent been told. I suspect there IS no Internet wide back-up at present and I am really uneasy that Government-backed hackers from another country could disrupt OUR services if they chose to - because every darn country to date is so reliant on the one and only Internet that exists at present. I'm no techno-freak - but I think this could be the "driver" behind a back-up for the whole set-up coming into existence - and that will help keep us all from being so darn vulnerable. There were ideas out already I understand about setting up an alternative Internet - and I think this is being pushed now. If, as an individual, I see the value of always always always having back-up plans in place - I'm on about Plan E by now...then how much more important is it for nation states to have a Plan B if something vital gets disrupted?

Crikey - I thought the Internet battle was fast and furious yesterday - mygawd it has multiplied by a factor of goodness-knows-what today. There was a lot of Turkish comments yesterday. The Spanish are taking the lead at the moment.

    ******************

Anyway....back to Old Style here and how are people coping still with the supplies (or lack of) in the shops?
  • Perrywinkle, thanks so much for your advice. OH had already checked fuse and thought it was fine, but after reading your post I got him to discuss with garage man before we booked in. He said it might be a hairline fracture to fuse - and guess what - it was!! So pleased not another huge bill. Glad you and your mum were able to sort her car out too. You are a star.

Gailey, sorry to hear about reactions of other kids at your daughter's school - they can be cruel. Can see from your posts you
work so hard for your family. Don't let it get to you.

FTM, sorry about your chick. I have a friend with chickens, they are such characters. Can see how you would get attached.
Better go as DD is hovering (we share a PC). I will have to learn to type faster!

Thinking about the Northern and Scottish contingent - hope no-one still snowed in.

    Have a good evening all.

Gailey - a big ((HUG)) - try to ignore the [STRIKE]other mums [/STRIKE] witches coven - they are just jealous and guilty that they haven't made as much effort as you have . . . so much for Christmas as a time of peace and goodwill with that attitude

For many years, I helped at school making the costumes for the play for kids whose parents couldn't or wouldn't . . . the flak that I got from the some of the parents was unbelievable!
Although the majority of parents were delighted with my efforts :) You can't win 'em all :rotfl:

Still very thick laying snow here and the roads are 6inches deep in ice and its freezing fog too....its is tough and frezing too! Brrrrrh!

FTM - loved your quip about OH doing the splits on the ice patch! :rotfl::rotfl:

  • Hi modern millie,

That's great that you were able to sort out your wipers with no big garage bill - it's a great feeling when things work out with little effort and little expense!

OMG, I am feeling so tired.:(

Had a bad night, with backache, been trying to sort the back bedroom and finish decorating our bedroom, went shopping at Mr T, fetched grand daughter from school, fed her, played cards with her, cooked my and DH's supper, got loads of sewing to do, more snow and sleet expected here tonight, just feeling really tired.
    :eek::eek::eek:

I need to sleep for a week. Been waking up twice a night with backache, can't turn over, without doing a five point turn, never mind a three point turn and a lot of swearing too.:o

It will be medication tonight, for sure.:D

Sorry folks, just tired and fed up.:mad::mad:

    Have a good night.:)

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

Ceridwen, you are such a love to ask (are you going fluffy on me?!:D) Am just having a catch up now. This thread is the perfect antidote to the gloom I was feeling cos you realise everyone has their troubles and the bad bits are balanced with good bits in the grand scheme of things.

Was glued to the Budget and news but cannot take it any more. I just feel it's time to stop the bickering and get on with things. Well my finances have taken a hit but I will manage somehow, am busy with a spreadsheet squeezing my budget as hard as I can to make the numbers fit! I think I can do it so I have a surplus of about about 10c, whoopdedoo! :rotfl:But it will mean a lot of sacrifices and changes. Everyone is taking a hit - except they left the old age pension alone which I am glad about - I know several pensioners who were really worried. Was at the dental hygienist today and she said this country has got through worse and we will get through this. That cheered me up a bit. She's a lovely English lady and she is the only person who I've heard say anything positive and encouraging today!

Just want to send hugs and good thoughts to Parsonswife, Gailey and anyone else feeling rubbish.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Sending some hugs and positive thoughts to all who need them today.

Gailey - costumes have always been a difficult one to negotiate, with some parents seeming to be Coco Chanel, and others doing nothing, eventually after lots of talks at school, a few parents who were able offered to make up a stock set of costumes that are added to each year as necessary, maybe its worth having a chat with school about building a wardrobe?
My DD4 has Hat competition next week and I am dreading it, I know some kids will arrive with creations that a professional milliner would be jealous of, and hats are really not my thing.

FTM - losing any pet is hard but at least she knew you cared.

NualaBula - well done for being prepared and thinking positively.

I have been to funeral all day, was a nightmare, dropped kids at school then raced off, the funeral was the longest I have ever been to, the wife did a eulogy that lasted forty five minutes and was so detailed I feel I know how the deceased lived every day of his life. :) Attended the wake quickly then left to pick up kids and attend governors meeting, only to get home, collect DD4 and head back out to evening performance of school play. Finally home at 7.30 to get kids to bed, ironing, washing, tidying up house and generally trying to get sorted.

Its so cold today and I feel I have not been warm since yesterday, just hoping I am not coming down with yet another bug.

Had a minor bump i n car today and feeling bit sore and stiff, luckily I did no damage to car, but it has made me very wary of the ice.

Feeling quite proud because while I was at funeral party I managed to diagnose someones car, washing machine and help someone else sort their finances. My mum was not impressed, but I think she was out of sorts cos she didnt manage to be centre stage. :)

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I have a wicked mind-picture of the proceedings!!
Its been more or less confirmed that the 3 days that no-one couldn't get to work last week will be unpaid :( and according to todays forecast, there will be further snow, freezing temperatures and general unpleasantness next week! Roll on summer ! :)
