  • Hello all. I've been following this thread for a while and you seem a lovely bunch of people - you're keeping me going through the winter doldrums. This is my first post on any forum (bit of a technophobe) but it's starting to feel a bit creepy just reading and not contributing. Things are tight with us - self, DH and teen DD -more than usual this year, partly due to a series of car disasters - Gailey and I think Mardatha, I sympathise - and I think we're poised for another. Wipers on my car have stopped today and last time this happened (previous car) it cost a fortune for a new motor. Have a horrible feeling I might have caused this by accidentally switching them on when they were iced up. Hey ho. Trip to the garage tomorrow I expect. I can do cooking from scratch, demon shopping, etc. but car mechanics a non starter! Fear windscreen wipers could be my Xmas present this year.

Parsons wife - loved the pic of the snow table. Is it still there?

    Welcome Modern Millie!

Pagangirl, sorry, don't know - my thanks buttons disappeared for a while and spontaneously came back. I think the settings for images/icons is in User CP but beyond that am not sure.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Go to User CP, on the left click Edit Options. Scroll down to the third blue box, called Thread Display Options. Click the boxes Show Avatars and Show Images, scroll to the bottom and click Save Changes.

Not sure about the Thanks button though

Try refreshing the page to recover thanks button - found this out by accident!

gailey, the tunic sounds fab and you never know, maybe DD will be the envy of all her friends in her custom made garment - not a cheapy(?!) off the peg one. When DD1 was very young and I was a very skint student, I made her all sorts of clothes from eg old CS curtains (and one very fancy patchwork jacket) with funky details like secret pockets and assorted buttons. Even when she was a teenager she would draw me things with touching faith that I would be able to make them. All her friends were queuing up for their own versions.

My only out and out failure was a fancy dress costume for a seaside themed party when she was about six. She had her heart set on going as a worm cast (yes, I know) and in a fit of inspiration I made a cone shape out of an old blind, stuffed a load of old tights and spiralled them round it, to be worn like a dress with head and armholes. "But they'll know it's me," she wailed, "I wanted them to think it was a real one!" Er, yes. Sulkiest worm cast that ever went to a party!

Ceridwen..what about croissants and hot choclate for breakfast...waffles with maple syrup is a fave in our house..my personal fave is waffles, smoked crispy bacon with maple syrup all over it..sounds sickly..but its not honestly...the syrup and smoked bacon compliment each other...
    Parsonswife..thanks..i hate being let down..
Nualabuala..thank hun..i have got an extra day to day..instead of being there i can get cracking at home...
O and hubby thinks me getting cancelled today is a sign that i'm not meant to have it done...don't think so..its not him that has to go through the whole process of being pregnant and giving birth..its me..so he can fluffing well keep his signs to himself...love him dearly but gosh he is sentimental at times...
    ftm

Waffles with maple syrup - hmmmm....cor missus....think I'll save that one for special treat...as it sounds rather fattening...whooops...though I DO have some maple syrup in and its about time I tried it out for something..

Re hubby - I'd never encountered the comment about "fluffing off" until I found MSE. Well - I think telling him to "fluff off" on this one would be appropriate. On the other hand you could point out to him that if its apparently "meant to be" that the Op was cancelled - then just how does he explain all the other operations the NHS cancels so frequently then? ....and there was me thinking its down to lack of resources...

I've had several ops. and never had any of them cancelled - though 2 of them were NHS ones - but I've certainly seen it happen more than once to people I know:mad:. Very annoying (indeed) - when you've gone and psyched yourself up for it....

EDIT: Got my knickers in a twist there - correction...one of the Ops was NHS-funded - so have only been "at risk" of cancellation once - but that was quite a few years ago now before en masse cancellations we've been having the last few years.....

Get yer facts straight ceridwen - note to self....

But boss of wiki leaks is australian so not sure if they can .
I like to think its nice hes sees uk as safe haven.

Still intresting what us thinks of us. Think we should try and distance ourselves more from usa as to quote words of hugh grant in love actually whats so special about them treating us so badly and expecting us to jump and agree on everything.

yeah, him and every other person with a criminal record/on the run, and illegal immigrant.

I havnt read any wiki leaks,no real desire to either so i cant really comment on the issue :( (as much as i really would love to, i just dont have time lol)

Totally agree about the extradition treaty, how can we as voters let these people govern us? if this was the other way around, americans would be up in arms!
