I am off to bed now as have a long but exciting day tomorrow. We're taking my little girl to see Father Christmas at Harrods. :j We have cheap tickets, we're taking our own lunch and have a £5 voucher to use in the store which I'm sure will go a long way. :rotfl: My little girl has no idea we're going and this is the first year she's not cried when we took her to see another Father Christmas at the Church Fair. Infact she wants to see him all the time at the moment and keeps asking when he's coming to our house. I think I'm a little more excited than she will be. Hubby is coming with us as I get tired very easily and as we're going by tube I need an extra pair of hands for the buggy.'Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.'

Help....is it wrong to ask a 6 year old to tidy up some of his own mess. ...
when my ds was little I couldn't set foot in his bedroom without stepping on something; I tried threats of dumping it into the dustbin, tried bribery and none of it worked; by the time he was about 10 I refused to go in there - his washing wasn't done unless it was put in the bin and he had to change his own bed.
since he had his own place he's one of the tidiest people I know but suspect his lovely new partner is a bit of a pack rat and I'm waiting to see what happens :rotfl:... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

we've all been so ill this weekend. First ds1 went to his friend's 6th birthday party and got jacked up on sweets, cake, fizzy drinks and came home with more cake. It was no surprise when he started throwing up before bed, eek.
I felt sick all day too, a nap sorted that one out and now oh has got it too. So much for the weekend of cleaning and tidying. I've got lots of things i need to sell but most aren't allowed on ebay or don't sell well there, will have to ponder that one because i need the dosh.
It's still cold but the rain washed away the snow, thinking of all of you who are still snowed in x0 -
Help....is it wrong to ask a 6 year old to tidy up some of his own mess. I couldn't walk across the floor in this room today, and the other sitting room was nearly as bad. I feel like I'm on to him all the time, but I'm his mum, not his maid. I do everything else (well he is only small), but I have told him he must put stuff away before he gets other stuff out to play with. I think I feel like I nag him more because there is only me (his dad died last year).
I was in a similar situation to you when my son was small. We compromised, in that his room could be as messy as he liked as long as he didn't leave food remains in there, but if he brought anything into the living rooms he had to keep it tidy so no one would break their neck falling over it (he loved Lego) and he had to take things back before he brought something else in.
He's still as untidy now - it's just the way he is. Says he can't find anything if he puts it away. But he does keep the mess in his own space. Well, mostly anyway.0 -
it's hard though, my oldest is nearly 6 and he tidies up after himself. well, he shoves it under, to the side of or in something else. while it might not be tidy per se it is out of sight. a party trick learned from his dad no doubt.0

Hiya gailey.
Glad your OK and feeling a little better, so sorry to hear of your loss, it's never good at any time but close to christmas it seems worse somehow.
I see your taking life easy as usual!!( cheeky sarcasm)0 -
I tried that for the last couple of weeks, Kittie, but found that the one kettle becomes three or more if you don't like the washing up hanging around the kitchen and the overall moisture level in the house, the kitchen especially, definitely went up judging by the condensation on the windows. All that steam stays inside the DW. Some MSEers swear by cutting your dishwasher tablet in half but I haven't tried it yet. Mine have a little ball attached and I'd probably sever a finger trying to chop it evenly. I only ever buy them when they are on special offer.
I use Mr T's value ones and I find them great, but we do have very soft water so I think that makes a difference.0 -
A couple of tablespoons of vinegar in the DW makes a difference and means you can use cheaper or half powder/DW tabs0

Of course I had to google it!
Between here and the Preparing for Winter thread I feel my innocence has been sullied!
And have had a much needed laugh too!
Ceridwen, what's all this internet aggro and boycot Paypal, I'm curious, what's going on outside our cosy little corner of the web?
The "battle for freedom of speech" - currently being conducted on a bit of Twitter that hasnt been "censored" - re Wikileaks...think im im im (instead of om om om) and then think wikileaks and google. Battle is still raging - I just checked. Boycotting Paypal is because they are (the main) channel for money to reach Wikileaks and they've been "got at" to stop them doing so. There's been one heck of a battle going on obviously the last week - servers having DDOS attacks/Amazon got at/Paypal got at/Facebook got at/newspapers being "warned"/the founder being threatened with arrest and murder...its a ginormous battle and the current main battlefield is on that (currently) uncensored bit of Twitter.
I'm watching history being made - hence my fascination in watching the battle. I've been expecting it for years...once access to the Internet became commonplace it was obviously going to happen sometime.

Quick - back to Old Style....anyone care to share substitutes for bread for breakfast?
...and...err...whats going on on the Preparing for Winter thread then? (visions of everyone swopping advice on "hugging a hoodie" to keep warm......)0
