OH has arrived at the hospital, a passing 4x4 managed to drag the ambulance out and get it moving. :j The nurses have hooked him and the 2 ladies up to their machines and the tea trolley is on it's way. :D Unfortunately it means that he's only going to be able to do about 3 hours dialysis instead of his usual 5 but he'll be okay as long as he gets back there on Friday.

I have nothing but admiration for the drivers who manage to collect everyone and get them to hospital safely and also the nurses who have battled their way in. The snow has really come down here and my OH said he's never seen the roads so bad.

So pleased to read that your OH and the ladies and ambulance driver made it safe to hospital. Thank God for kindhearted people like those who helped drag the ambulance out and get it moving. :A

Got myself in debt paying two pounds short of three hundred to get five hundred litres of heating oil. We`ve had none all year. Got it delivered yesterday. Wouldln`t work! Thought the boiler was airlocked, got the nearest plumber out to take a look (cost twenty pounds because he is kind and brilliant and struggled to get here through the snow and ice) and turns out that it`s so cold here, the oil has `frozen` in the pipes, apparently other folks have the same problem. The temp gets so low, it partially turns to a kind of gel in the pipes and won`t flow.
So, back to square one..camped out in the livingroom, bluddy frozen, sigh.

HAve had a good root through the freezers and both are getting fairly low, which is good as I need to defrost them, however there are hangers on that I am stuck with and would like to be rid of - blueberries (a good few packets), raspberries and some other bits that I think will make up a pot luck dinner tomorrow. Also have big bag of plums in the fridge that were reduced last week, really would like to use them up but out of ideas?? I do have some sliced duck in freezer that some of the plums could maybe used for, Any recipes?

Am quite cross with myself as I have had to call head teacher and pull out of Christmas fayre prep today and buying the selection boxes, but I really didnt want to take the chance on letting them down last minute.

Have got some of the stuff to make some cakes for tomorrow, but am unsure whether its a good idea as we still obviously have this bug around the house. Thinking its best to err on cautious side and not bother.

I agree. And i'm sure you do lots to help out at the school at other times of the year. :)

Crikey Red Doe, i am sorry to read things are so tough with you and yours right now. You paid all that money for heating oil and it won't even 'work' right now when you need it most.

I really do feel for you and hope very much, that things soon improve and that the 'gel in the pipes' soon begins to flow again.

OMG,that's awful! At what temperature does oil freeze? Is there anything you can do....insulate the oil tank and pipes perhaps? I'm horrified at the prospect.

Red doe is there any way of defrosting the oil, (obviously if you get it running it will prevent it happening but thinking of maybe tealights under the pipes?) hot water bottles?

Our bin is overflowing as our bin men mysteriously missed us last week, no idea why, did ring to report and they say human error, but if it snows much more they wont come this week either and the amount of rubbish is awful, no idea what to do with it. :)

Its so cold even with the heating on that we have all taken up camp in the living room with duvets and cats all cuddled up. Got food from freezer earlier for dinner tonight but looking at how little lunch anyone has eaten I may have been too optimistic, as there is hardly anything been eaten. Thankfully it was only cup a soups and nothing I had spent too long over.

Sorry to hear that youve struggled to get the oil and now cant use it at a time when we all need heat, like the other member says you can get some of that grey insulation that wrap round outside pipes, you need to see if a plumber would suggest that........

I do feel for you and your family at such a hard time , keep your chin up.......

Last year the local mountain rescue had to be called out to help get people to hospital as ambulances couldn't get up some roads in the snow.

Our road is pretty bad now. Some neighbours did try to clear it at lunchtime but it's covered again.

This is how it looks now, but hear there is more to come. No milkman, no postman, no binmen and no Tesco delivery. Well stocked up though, so no major problem. DIL said corner shop had run out of milk.

How much snow did you get round your way? We had 28cm/11" in 12 hours yesterday. But large parts of London weren't affected and people look oddly when you say Kent had really bad snow.

So glad DH did make it home when he did. Reports in the paper today of people being stuck overnight at Orpington and having to sleep on the train. Trains were running this morning but it still took him from 7.15 to 9.40 to get to work. So glad I took early retirement last year

Forecast for Biggin Hill (nearest weather station to us) is for more heavy snow this afternoon so I have told him to come home early

Hi MaryB- I`m in Bromley...down the road to you:jI`m worried about going up to town tomorrow to see my brother and sister in law. Dont know whether the trains will be cancelled.
