been out and had half an hours fun with Abiane in the snow!!
gonna go and knock on my neighbours door as i haven't seen her carer's car this morning and i have no idea if her family have been able to get to her - really hope she is ok, she's pretty much bed ridden
then gonna have leftover pizza for our lunch and i might even chuck some alphabites in the oven as a treat!! lol
ETA: we are in Grimsby furndire0 -
Morning all, well it'll be afternoon by the time i click 'post' lol
Hope everyone is safe and warm, its snowing again hereDH is working at home and DD is at school but not sure for how long if it carries on. We live in a small village and all the teachers and lots of children come from outside of it so many children get collected early if it looks like its getting bad. We live right next door to school though so we can just nip over for DD if we get a phone call. Me and DS are snuggled under a blanket watching the snow, drinking tea/milk and eating the oaty cookies DD made the other day
I did a inventory of the freezer and cupboards on Monday and made a list of meals - 21 meals that include meat/fish, add to that some 'filler' meals like omelettes, jacket spuds & fillings, egg & chips, soup & pudding and we have a months worth of meals :T Managed to get to Asda yesterday and bought fresh fruit and veg, milk, bread, yogs etc and a few bits to make up the meals and then stocked up on frozen veg & tinned fruit for if the fresh stuff runs out before we can get more. Ahhh i feel so much better now and can enjoy the snow
Seeing as we're stuck at home i might be super-organised and crack on with writing Xmas cards, and get DD to start on hers tonight when she comes in after playing. Both kids were very excited with their advent calendars this morning, DS thrilled to find a 'Choclit noin' in his little wooden train lol. I'm sulking cos my calendar is at my mams and DH hasn't managed to get me one yet, i'd better have another biscuit to make up for it :rotfl:
Might go and make some soup now, when it snows i cook!
Take care all

we are officially snowed in.
the farmers have ben out since early trying to clear enough of a way for an ambulance to get in as a lady went in to labour, and the ambulance got stuck at 5am approx 1½ mile down the only lane to the RAF camp where we live.
the tractors drivers can't clear the roads easily as the snow is drifting and is higher than their snow ploughs,
The lady has since had a baby boy and both are well not sure if they are going through to hospital or staying put.
We also had powerout from 9pm to approx 1am last night, but had a coal fire, wind up lanterns and had already filled flasks with boiling water for hot drinks just in case.
Can not believe that people have still tried to drive out to work when the road was impassible last night, these cars are now abandoned down the lane.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -
Hi all,
Something to cheer everone up..
The snow was pilled halfway up the back door this morning so..
I got out some icecream cones (left from the summer) and filled them with snow then added some cheap diluting juice. I did this as my two young daughters screamed with delight. They loved their snow cones. The 3 year old said it was better than ice cream. The 8 year old said wow we can eat snow cones forever with this much snow.
I did give both kids the classic warning " Never eat yellow snow". lol0 -
Still snowing here in my part of the Peak District; we've had over 2 feet of snow during the night.
The village is closed off with only brave people in 4x4s getting through and there are only a few of them. I'm on the bank staff for a local nursing home and they've just called to see if I can make it in for a night shift tonight. Thing is, the car's buried, the roads haven't been cleared since 10am yesterday morning, and I'm the only person available to look after my parents and their very elderly next door neightbour. I would love to go and help (and the money would be good too), but I'm not sure I could get the 6 miles there, let alone back tomorrow morning at 8. If the OH was here, I'd definately go as I'd have a guarantee that he could come and rescue me, but I'm not keen on taking that chance.
Apart from that, we're all warm and cosy here; the dog's still snoozing wrapped in a blanket, and I'm burning my Advent candle. We're (my parents and I) well stocked with food and have all the basics to make bread etc with, so we're not worried. I wonder what the OH will make of this when he gets back from Africa! :rotfl:0 -
dh and I been sent home from work, ds sent home from school - dd is nagging to go sledging so hubby will dig it out of the loft and we shall get bundled up and go and get marshmallows for in our pst sledging hot choc.
Suspect my asda delivery will be cancelled but have enough in for a god wee whilePeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

OH has arrived at the hospital, a passing 4x4 managed to drag the ambulance out and get it moving. :j The nurses have hooked him and the 2 ladies up to their machines and the tea trolley is on it's way.
Unfortunately it means that he's only going to be able to do about 3 hours dialysis instead of his usual 5 but he'll be okay as long as he gets back there on Friday.
I have nothing but admiration for the drivers who manage to collect everyone and get them to hospital safely and also the nurses who have battled their way in. The snow has really come down here and my OH said he's never seen the roads so bad.Dum Spiro Spero0 -
HAve had a good root through the freezers and both are getting fairly low, which is good as I need to defrost them, however there are hangers on that I am stuck with and would like to be rid of - blueberries (a good few packets), raspberries and some other bits that I think will make up a pot luck dinner tomorrow. Also have big bag of plums in the fridge that were reduced last week, really would like to use them up but out of ideas?? I do have some sliced duck in freezer that some of the plums could maybe used for, Any recipes?
Am quite cross with myself as I have had to call head teacher and pull out of Christmas fayre prep today and buying the selection boxes, but I really didnt want to take the chance on letting them down last minute.
Have got some of the stuff to make some cakes for tomorrow, but am unsure whether its a good idea as we still obviously have this bug around the house. Thinking its best to err on cautious side and not bother.0 -
I have just made some crumbles with gooseberries I bottled last year and four pie things with what was left over from the pineapple tin. They are just a sweet pastry base with the pineapple next then a cake topping. I just used the basic victoria sponge recipe. I put them in foil cases I saved from when we had whoopsied quiche. Kidcat You could do something like that with some of your fruit.
I am trying to bake ahead and freeze in case we come down with anything in the next few weeks.
Still snowing here and I am venturing out with ds3 as he wants to go sledging. Not looking forward to it but it will stop him whining.0 -
