Another light sprinkling of snow here last night and now its falling intermittently. Its not risen above zero though and I have had the heating on constantly the last few days, bill will be massive but better than freezing. Kids still off but hoping will be well enough to go back tomorrow, have almost run out of cat food so may leave eldest to sit with kids and nip out to stock up, thinking best to go while its not so bad than risk waiting till tomorrow if it gets worse.
Feeling slightly better today - not so woozy as it were, but still not fully fit, but think it will have to do.

Threw cats in garden this morning as litter needs changing but my stomach not quite feeling ready to face it, and they all tip toed round the edges before dashing to hide under the trampoline, behind a quiet bush and then hammering at the flap to come in!!

Got to get some food organised for today, so will be rooting through the freezer in a minute. That way I can pick up anything we may be running low on whilst I get the kitty food.
  • It's snowing here in worcestershire but it's pathetic, snowing heavily for just a few minutes and then stopping.

I sent DS1 off to school this morning all bundled up. I got to school and realised that every other child had wellies on to be told that they aren't allowed to play outside without them. I had no idea but now I feel really bad. Pretty much every other child had them on. His wellies are in the back of his dad's car 45 miles away, doh!

Reading some of your posts ladies, eek! Will have to stock up oh UHT milk, baby milk for ds2 and essentials for the freezer. DS2 was born in september so I haven't had time to prepare for this weather properly.
  • That made me laugh Kidkat, I was lazy about putting the trampoline away but the dog is delighted as its the only place she can do her business without freezing her tail off!!!

Hi everyone. I'm not in work, I went in Monday driving (scary stuff) and yesterday by train. Barely anyone making it in so I hadn't got a great deal to do anyway. Kids off school but that wouldn't have made a difference as hubby been forced to work from home.

It took me and the kids (10 and 7) 48 mins to get to local shops and back, which is what the Americans would call a block away.

1 shop completely out of bread but 2 doors down there was shelves full. I took kids with me in case it was rationed not cos I'm stock-piling but cos we were buying for other people. Before setting off I called at some neighbours houses, those who have babies/toddlers and only 1 adult in house, and a lady with an ill husband. My 7yo; the only one with wellies, was a nuisance whinging about the snow in her boots all the way there. My eldest asked to buy a bag of broken chocolate att he shiops and he fed her it all the way back to keep her quiet. He obviously has better contingency plans to stop her whining than I do. :rotfl:

Off to do the 'Nanny run' in a min, delivering the bread to my ILs and Grandmother.

    Take care everyone.

If you do skid out slightly, don't panic. Steer ever so slightly 'into the skid' ie turn the steering wheel slightly in the direction that the back of the car has slid.

Thank you. I've read that so many times, but it's the first time anyone has explained what it actually means. You read these things on a fine day, think "What? Oh well...." and it's too late to work it out while it's happening.

I've just had a phone call from my OH, the patient transport ambulance was due to pick him up this morning at 10 to take him for dialysis, it didn't get here until 11 and they're now stuck in the snow halfway between ours & Durham! There's 2 old ladies and my OH with his false leg and useless left hand in the ambulance so they can't help the driver. :D But according to the OH they'll be okay because between them they've got egg mayonnaise sandwiches, crab paste sandwiches and 2 individual portion boxes of rice crispies. :rotfl:

Thanks Kidcat twas me with the abundance of red wine vinegar!! will have a look at those Asda recipes :)

I also have an abundance of red wine vinegar lovelife, when I read your post on what price you'd got it for I went and put an order in for 2 containers - they say they are 2.5 l on the site but actually are 5 l so now I have 10 l of red wine vinegar to use! I'm going to try doing my red cabbage in red wine vinegar for a change, usually use white vinegar but should just make it a bit richer and I LOVE pickled red cabbage with stew so that should use a fair amount up. Good job I've already got some made and ready as its definately stew weather at the moment.

anguk, hope they all get there safely, glad they have some food.

DS's school has now closed, DH is stuck at work, the traffic has ground to a standstill, Thankfully my two older sons are helping out and gone to collect little one. DH is working till 7pm and may have to walk home. Teenage son has (at last) accepted that it is cold and has wrapped up, even borrowing my waterproof trousers and ski gloves, he is praying he doesn't bump into his mates LOL:D

It is still snowing steadily here. Not sure if this is the snow forecast for later or we are getting extra:eek::eek:

    Take care

Dollydaydream07 you must live within a few miles of us, I think we had about a foot of snow. When I got up, I opened the french doors, and the silence was wonderful - we live quite near to a main road, and its never that quiet. Its sort of sticky snow - I wonder if that was the type of snow that they had in USA a few years ago - got so heavy on electric cables that it fetched them down. I had to take some pictures of our garden - my washing line is like a solid 4 inch block of snow.
