Well, we've very little snow but it was so cold this morning that DS could stand on the ice in the trough - I'd asked him to break it with the coal shovel (big pointy spade not a little indoor shovel) but it was almost impossible and by the time I got back from taking them to school, it had frozen solid again.
My most frightening winter driving experience was just outside Edinburgh a couple of years ago. Snow, ice and freezing fog and it was dark as well - could not believe how fast people were going given the conditions. Seriously scary!
ETA ()s gailey. Million and one things in this house need fixing too and sometimes I just wish I could do a Mary Poppins and magic it all done. Freecycle? Might be worth asking re cookers and furniture?0 -
Gailey, you do so much with your day that you shouldnt be hard on yourself.
Look at how much you have paid of your debts this year - we have debts and pay a set amount and by 2015 we should be debt free, but I dont worry anymore as we pay them every month.
Your two little ladies are only little once so enjoy them, forget about the drawers and wardrobes (we have drawers similar to you!), dream about your new oven and save your spare change for one - but you have to enjoy your girls (little man to be)and family, lifes to short. got a horrible awaking of that when dad died in January. xxxMum, wife and dinnerlady!0 -
gailey,
It is flippin hard! It's a 24 hour, seven day a week. 52 weeks a year slog, with no bank holidays and a meal break when and if. The wrong tools, no tools and an ungrateful boss. This is tough stuff!
I can sense from your posts your having a bit of a downer, it happens hun, we can't all be chirpy chippy and the model of domestic efficiency all the time, it's not humanly possible.
We try to do what we can, as we can, with the little we have, and some times there isn't enough left... all the umph is used.
Try and get a little rest for a day or two and do something nice for just you. I promise you no one will notice for a wee while and you will feel much better for it.
Every now and then you need to recharge and there is nothing wrong with that. You need to look after you.
Sending you hugs, take good care.0 -
I had many reproaches of being a cruel mother making her walk.
What nonsense Maryb. I hope you told them that too.
Until the 70's/80's? most kids walked to school as not many families had 2 cars.
My brother and I walked to school in all sorts of weather in the 60's.
And we were a 2 car family but mum always insisted my brother and I would be more alert for the walk...even in the rain, thanks mum!
I walked my son to school in the 80s in all weathers, had too, I couldn't afford a car.
Its amazing the human race and children made it into adult hood without being driven around everywhere.
Kids need fresh air and exercise, wrap them up warm and let them walk in the snow.0 -

Thank you lindy loo and everyone for kind words.
So sorry about your dad feel guilty as rarly see my parents.
I try so hard to stay happy and upbeat and count my blessings lovley hubby, 2lush girls and baby boy on way just get bogged down by stess of finacially juggling each month and everywhere I turn somethings not right!
I am happy we paid off so much this year but barly made a dent.
Like you we wont be completly debt free until 2015 as thats when loans end.
Just seems like such a long time away.
Will have to be even more disiplined next year if we going to make inroads into paying off debts.
Hubbys still down hes not managed to get new job.
we both equally worried but rarly discuss it just try to get on with it.
In our head we tott up bills and things we needs saying when we got some spare cash we will do that but never seems to be any spare.
Im sure I feel better tommorow just blooming baking tray saga upset me which is silly really.
My eldest thinks im evil as I dont drive and has to walk 15mins to school each way in rain and cold!
Feels like more pressure being stay at home mum/housewife than working ever was!
Hubby expects certain things and if not done is dissapointed then I feel like I failed guess he doesnt always see the girls throwing tantrum or baby that wont even let you go loo in peace!
He tries to help in his own way but never hears the baby cry.
Always falls asleep early himself as tired from work.
I think its even harder when no one around to help my family in wales, childcare too pricey and trying to juggle everything on limited budget so always bargain hunting or cooking can be tiring.pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

OH parents live in stoke and congleton (were in birkenhead), my family all have their own lives now - 2 of my siblibgs are granparents and they forget how I helped them and they dont offer to do it back. Theres 16 years between me and one of my sisters. My mum is only 67 but shes an old 67 more so since dad died so I visit her weekly rather that her come here.
Me and OH havent had a nnight out together in 5 years, as no babysitters, my family are great in an emergency they come out to help then!
Kind of dread when we do get a night out together as cant remember what it was like to not have the boys with us, sad I know! Weve had a few mornings together since October when DS2 started pre school and even had breakfast in a cafe last week.
Just put 5 things on ebay and one has sold - only £2.05 but its a start, 4 more to go!
same person bought 3 games!!!Mum, wife and dinnerlady!0 -
It certainly does when my deaf cat was dragged round the garden today in a harness and his name is SNOWY. Guess what colour he is?
(((((Gailey)))) Cut yourself some slack girl - you do so much. Maybe you need to take things a bit easier so you have time to smell the roses so to speak? I too have drawers like that by the way. There are lots of things that need doing in this house before it gets sold - really gets me down at times. But then real life isn't all perfect looking like a furniture shop ad. Hope you'll feel better soon pet.
Lindy Loo - so sorry to hear about your Dad. x
Am watching Kirsty and would love to have a go at pottery. Actually would love to have a go at most things she does even though I'm not artistic. She was very funny about machine embroidery - said it was the crack cocaine of crafting as it's so addictive!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Well that is just so not fair
The part of Dorset I live in made some feeble pathetic attempt at snow today - but a tiny bit of sleet was all it could manage, and it eventually gave up on that.
The pictures are lovely though, and it looks beautiful where you live Mardatha
Gailey big (((hugs)))
Try and get an early night hun. Hormones, fatigue and trying to make ends meet, and clear your debts, is a big old plate full you've got there, but being well rested can make such a difference to how well you cope and feel.

Kidkat hope all of the kids are recovering, FTM great news about Sam :j. I bet you are feeling relieved.
On the cooking rice topic, I always used to end up with soggy rice but not since going to a Jamie Oliver party where we saw a video of him making a curry with rice. Put the rice in a pan and cover with water then bring to the boil. Boil for 5 min then tip it into a metal sieve. Put some more water in the pan and place the sieve of rice on top and cover with tin foil. Bring the pan to the boil and steam the rice for 5 min. Result is perfect fluffy rice.
Hipeechiq and everyone else thanks for the suggestions about hubbys GP appointment. He did go yesterday (on his own) and spoke to the GP then completed a questionnaire. The result was a diagnosis of depression. Well no surprises there for me but he still does not think he is depressed but then again he does not really have any understanding of what depression is despite seeing me go through it. Anyhow he has started on antidepressants and has to go back to the GP in 3 weeks. He was also given a self help website to try as the GP did not refer him for counselling as there is an 18 month waiting lost for counselling in our area! Here’s hoping he’s taking the first steps in the right direction.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Mardatha I understand that you hate kale with a passion but have to tell you I was given a large bag of black Kale last week and we love it . So far have had it in soup, stew, pasta sauce and risotto. Hubby wants to try frying the rest to see it it is like the seaweed you get with a chinese.
PS lively pictures of your proper snow. Hope you can hold out without the sweets. Do you need an air drop of them?I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.
