I also feel shocked when people are reckless around pavements/roads ..still trying to nip across in front of cars on roads they could slip and fall etc.

Talking of which, whilst out on my travels today one elderly lady decided that the safest way for her to cross the road was to ask a younger woman to help her cross the busy dual carriageway. Younger woman took a firm hold of the poor old girl and, sticking her hand up in a 'halt, I'm coming through' gesture, proceeded to walk straight out in front of me at speed, dragging the elder woman alongside, to the point where I had to come to a complete stop.

She was a maximum of 25 metres from a pedestrian crossing:mad:. The poor old lady must have nearly had heart failure! Good job I was practising good snow driving methods and was already slowing down in case the lights changed ahead of me

Anyone else have those days when despite money being tight you try and remain positive and relaxed but fail?

Thats me this afternoon. Not sure if its the hormones, tiredeness or constant crying clingyness of 15month old thats worn me down.

My 4half year old has been quite cheeky tonight since she came home from school.
Left both girls downstairs alone for 10mins earlier came down lounge looked like bomb had hit it and neither had ate all their tea.

I was stupidly exited about cooking some reduced chicken in my new new jaimie oliver roasting tin. Disaster it does not fit my oven!
Fits standard ovens but ours is smallest annoys me as gap between units is wider so why have small oven its very old electric creda oven with only 3working hobs and cant use grill as just smokes like mad despite cleaning.
Really only things on top shelf cook so doing roast can take ages.
Its not our oven came with house, so annoyed as had my own oven in last place but left it behind as this one came with one.

Really want to new oven so will add that to the list.
Looked up prices new looking at about 200 at least and not sure if that includes fitting.

    That was dissapointment no 1.

Then went to put mountain of clean washing away and hubbys still not manged to fix my chest of draws, cant fit all my clothes away nice and draw keeps dropping.
Need new bedroom furniture as doors fallen off wardrobe get depressed looking at it but again its way down the list.

Same issue in daughters room not that they broke but mam gave us 2small sets of draws but they quite shallow and struggle to fit all her clothes in.

Just feel frustrated most days that what most people consider basics is just not right.

the car of doom worries me I know it needs to go into garage again.
Would like to get rid but cant until hubby gets his tax back which is not guaranteed although other managers have got it back.

The bills seem neverending just when think im up to date something else comes along.
The stress of trying to juggle xmas and everything else is hard.
Seems like everythings down to me again this year despite telling hubby would like some help.

Managed to get baby to sleep early at 6pm as she just very whiney .
    Did homework with eldest.
She says shes worried about daddy that someone might hurt him, reasured her not the case but puzzled wheres shes got the idea from.

Find evenings quite manic especially alone as hubbys working late as usually involves dinner, bedtimes, homework then today sometimes its 8-9pm before i get any time to myself.

Next weeks hes away on conference am dreading it. Most days im fine but other days feel its a struggle.

Hoping early night may ease my stress levels .

Trying to be positive about new year and debt busting but also very worried too.

:) Must feel like home when it's cold and snowy!

Kitcaboodle, your recipe sounds yummy. I haven't got round to making the quinoa yet but I have saved the recipe.

One problem I have with quinoa is rinsing it as it seems to be too small for the holes in my sieve. Wondering is it just my sieve or how to other folks rinse it?
It certainly does when my deaf cat was dragged round the garden today in a harness and his name is SNOWY. Guess what colour he is?

Thanks everyone for the great advice on driving in the snow. I'll have to try a conquer this fear but I'm more nervous than before due to my condition.

Just sorted out my home and content insurance and managed to reduce it by £10. :j We have been with the same people since moving in as we have a massive tree near our property (owned by the council) that is within 5 metres of our house. Most insurance companies will not insure us or want to charge a fortune.
Got my renewal today and thought I'd just pop onto the companys website and see what they would quote and it was £10 cheaper. Rang them up and explained we had been with them for 5 years but when I checked their own website using all the current details I had then my policy came out £10 cheaper. They guy was really nice and said they would call back. Within 10 minutes he did ring back and said they would match the internet price and only charge me 9 months insurance but still be covered for the whole year and they added on garden insurance as well. Very pleased with myself.

Those of you worried about driving in the snow..book yourself a driving lesson.

We have an instructor in our road and he told me he's booked solid this week with qualified drivers (one of them has been driving for 15 years and always avoided snow driving!) who want to know how to drive in the snow safely or do it first time with someone to help 'just in case'
He said 1 lesson is enough. Could be money well spent if it helps avoid an accident or just makes life easier.

Well, we've very little snow but it was so cold this morning that DS could stand on the ice in the trough - I'd asked him to break it with the coal shovel (big pointy spade not a little indoor shovel) but it was almost impossible and by the time I got back from taking them to school, it had frozen solid again.

My most frightening winter driving experience was just outside Edinburgh a couple of years ago. Snow, ice and freezing fog and it was dark as well - could not believe how fast people were going given the conditions. Seriously scary!

ETA ()s gailey. Million and one things in this house need fixing too and sometimes I just wish I could do a Mary Poppins and magic it all done. Freecycle? Might be worth asking re cookers and furniture?

I terrified myself driving in snow last year when I got caught in town and it took 4 hours to drive two miles. We live on a 1 in 8 hill, which the council does not treat as a priority for gritting (ie never) the car is rear wheel drive and automatic so you can't use the gears to brake it. Several times I was just sliding sideways across the road with no way of stopping it - I tried cadence braking, steering the same way as the skid, nothing helped. So when we had 8 inches of snow today I decided the car was staying on the drive for the duration. I am fortunate that I don't have to drive anywhere until Saturday when according to the forecast, things should be a bit better.

DD whinged about walking 1 mile to school (actually she whinges every day about that but it's only 25 minutes to walk and frankly in the rush hour it takes that long to drive) but she was well kitted out - I had bought her some flowery wellies so she wouldn't argue too much about wearing them, although she still tried her best to persuade me that her fake Uggs would do. She was let out early and was jealous of her friends several of whom were collected by 4x4 driving parents. I had many reproaches of being a cruel mother making her walk. However she had the last laugh because the traffic was gridlocked and most of them sat in those cars for a couple of hours or more.

I tried to tell DH to get home as early as he could but he poohpoohed me. Now I see that Victoria and Cannon St stations have no trains going anywhere (although I think it's mostly mainline Kent that is really bad). So Lord knows when I'll see him. One thing's for sure - I'm not driving to the station to pick him up
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
