We have no snow here and thank goodness too. It is so very cold outside that my washing is pretty stiff, in spite of the strong wind. I managed to get 2 loads on the line and the sun shone for a short half hour so it is near enough to dry
I spent my £100 in morrisons yesterday, went with dh and a list and it was all christmas stuff so I`ll be staying away from the shops from now on. Its a nice feeling to have it all in and to have my freezer, fridge and cupboards full. I think we could survive the whole winter now, without shopping. We are having family to stay in 17 days and one is a veggie so (as it is my christmas too) I have booked a waitrose slot for the day before and am getting easy food in for then. S*d the expense
I see that the news is full of the snow down south!!! makes me laugh really
Here is a tip about keeping the veg fresh. Last year I couldn`t go food shopping the week before christmas so I put my thinking cap on and got all the veg in 2 weeks before the day. Then I put it all into lakelands green poly bags and honestly it kept very fresh right up to me using it on christmas day and after. It saved one hack of a lot of stress0 -

The snow cake on my round table outside seems to have another layer added.

How much snow did you get round your way? We had 28cm/11" in 12 hours yesterday. But large parts of London weren't affected and people look oddly when you say Kent had really bad snow.
So glad DH did make it home when he did. Reports in the paper today of people being stuck overnight at Orpington and having to sleep on the train. Trains were running this morning but it still took him from 7.15 to 9.40 to get to work. So glad I took early retirement last year
Forecast for Biggin Hill (nearest weather station to us) is for more heavy snow this afternoon so I have told him to come home earlyIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Popped by our weekly street market this morning. The stallholders travel the country and their fruit and vegetables are stored in their big van overnight between locations. I fear they'll have a big loss this week as much of the salad stuff, fruit and some of the vegetables all got frostedovernight so temperatures must have been really low.0

Dont know how the bin men will cope tomorrow when we are forecast snow
Take care everyone xx
I don't live very far from Lindy-Loo, but was totally astonished to see the street sweeper lorry come down our (ungritted) road this morning. It carefully swept the centimetre or so of now frozen snow that we have and disappeared round the corner. A short while later it came back and swept the other side of the road...... It can't have been redistributing grit or anything like that - we haven't been gritted at all down this end.0 -
Someone asked about red wine vinegar recipes a few days back, and I know that chutney was suggested, just read this months Asda magazine and there are a couple of recipes using red wine vinegar - one is chutney and the other a braised red cabbage. I think that all their recipes are online too.
I have some red wine vinegar and was wondering what to do with it so thank you kidcat, will pick up an Asda mag when next in storeGrocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

The snow has just started for the first time here. Think DH might have to get some emergency provisions on the way home from work as we might not get to the shops tonight, and our street won't be gritted. Fingers crossed it's not much. Still, the bunnies are sleeping near the radiator and I am getting some quilting done so it's not all bad news yet!0

Actually I could make cakes or biscuits or tablet, but its not fair to the OH who cant have them. But if I get desperate then I will, and nibble them in secret in the loo

we are officially snowed in.
the farmers have ben out since early trying to clear enough of a way for an ambulance to get in as a lady went in to labour, and the ambulance got stuck at 5am approx 1½ mile down the only lane to the RAF camp where we live.
the tractors drivers can't clear the roads easily as the snow is drifting and is higher than their snow ploughs,
The lady has since had a baby boy and both are well not sure if they are going through to hospital or staying put.
We also had powerout from 9pm to approx 1am last night, but had a coal fire, wind up lanterns and had already filled flasks with boiling water for hot drinks just in case.
Can not believe that people have still tried to drive out to work when the road was impassible last night, these cars are now abandoned down the lane.
Glad you are okay and had the resources to stay warm and well during the powerout.
Very pleased to read that the lady who went into labour has delivered a healthy baby boy and that both mum and baby are well
Well done to all those whose endeavours were able to help in the face of the weather difficulties.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

The village is closed off with only brave people in 4x4s getting through and there are only a few of them. I'm on the bank staff for a local nursing home and they've just called to see if I can make it in for a night shift tonight. Thing is, the car's buried, the roads haven't been cleared since 10am yesterday morning, and I'm the only person available to look after my parents and their very elderly next door neightbour. I would love to go and help (and the money would be good too), but I'm not sure I could get the 6 miles there, let alone back tomorrow morning at 8. If the OH was here, I'd definately go as I'd have a guarantee that he could come and rescue me, but I'm not keen on taking that chance.
Apart from that, we're all warm and cosy here; the dog's still snoozing wrapped in a blanket, and I'm burning my Advent candle. We're (my parents and I) well stocked with food and have all the basics to make bread etc with, so we're not worried. I wonder what the OH will make of this when he gets back from Africa! :rotfl:
YIKES to 2 foot of snow falling overnight
I think the best place for you is to stay where you are, warm and cosy. I'm sure if you felt you could get there, you would, but there really is no point in attempting it when you might get stuck on uncleared roads etc and finding yourself in difficulty.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Well i finally caught up!
Gailey we all have bad days! you need some rest my love
mardatha aye it was like that couldn't see the car for the snow lol
Cranky my gawd woman your cats are like mine. I shot both moggies outside walked back there's both sat on te raidator within seconds! The little mares.
Regarding cats and trees well i fully expect both adult cats to climbing the top of the tree, eating the ginger bread figures then complaining at me for not making more. I swear its like having two extra kids:eek:
Most of the schools were closed for the past three days, but not ours , the kids words not mine, the demon head mistress made it into school.
Been snowing all day, sent off another parceltoday, luckily it snowed so i could walk outside.:o.
I'm very chuffed as managed to get more money off surveys paid stright into my paypal account, so planning on buyin more pressies this week, so then xmas will be over and done with.
Made lots of calzones yesterday so boys have been scoffing them today.
Need to finish sorting the house out and plan a shopping list for tomorrow. Fingers crossed tax credits will be paid in, so all the bills can be paid. The lack of money is really getting to us,so both me and OH have been arguing lots, were both stressed to high hell.
Right better get kitted up to pick the boys off from school. No doubt they'll want to play in the snow.0
