I have booked the kitten in to be spayed next week. She is snoring on the sofa in happy oblivion, and I feel mean....very mean.
I have to book my little lady in too...:(
Well, still no heating or hot water........waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh!
It's now 10 degrees in here. Won't bore you with the details, but basically I spent the whole morning on the phone, had another plumber round this afternoon, and tomorrow - HOPEFULLY - it's gonna get fixed. And he said he'd do it for free, we only have to pay for the parts (we'll prob bung him £20 for his trouble or something though!).
Unfortunately, one of the two parts that needs replacing requires the side panel to be taken off....which requires the oven to be removed and the oven housing to be taken apart! So our kitchen looks like a bombsite and we can't cook unless it's with a microwave.
Can't believe it can happen to a 2-year old boiler, what a load of carp. Did phone Glowworm, but they're not interested as it's a whole month outside the warranty  The plumber said he's seen so many of this particular boiler with exactly the same problem, and Glowworm know about it, but they still won't act on it. Grrrr.

Grrrrrr, been up since 4.40am with bluddy backache.:mad:
On my second mug of tea now.:)
It's cold outside alright. I'm wrapped up in a long woolen shawl thingy and my slippers, so I am quite toasty. I may sneak back into bed just now and snuggle into DH to stay warm.:rotfl:
I don't know why I bother to watch the news, it's SOOOO depressing.:(
My daughter is ill with the flu and sounded awful on the phone yesterday afternoon.:(
There are some Mr T vouchers in my bag, that will expire this coming Tuesday, so am going to take DH and me out to lunch.:T
Keep warm and well folks.:)Felines are my favourite

I wouldnt watch horror programmes or read horror books any longer. I used to w...a...y back as a teenager - but once I got out into the adult world and found out how much "horror" there is ITRWI decided to cut that out - rather than have a double dose IYSWIM.

Yes, it depresses me too, and north/south korea but I think it's somehow getting a balance between knowing(?) what's going on in the world, doing whatever we can and then getting on with life without worrying about what is out of our hands.Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)0

No Ceridwen, nothing there, just one a general one from mse
I have decided to light that very special big candle just for those who want to get good energy from here. It will be on the whole of today, until about 10 tonight and it has been transmitting the most lovely calming light in a fairly dark hall. There is a gorgeous glow from that candle, which is a deep red colour and is called home sweet home and I have already lit it. Since I started using it, three friends and family have been in touch and this weekend I have visitors 3 days on the trot. Very unusual for me.
This new house of ours has the most amazing good vibes and energy and I have only put things into it that also have good energy. There are no outside cables and we are surrounded by peaceful apple orchards and have 2 excellent and kind likeminded neighbours and I count my blessings
What a lovely and inspiring post Kittie:)Yes, it depresses me too, and north/south korea but I think it's somehow getting a balance between knowing(?) what's going on in the world, doing whatever we can and then getting on with life without worrying about what is out of our hands.
Totally agree Seasalt, i have to remind myself this a lot, when i am low I despair for the world and get really upset .......... i do try and make a difference where i can.....
Feel much stronger the last couple of days, will light a candle today too for all on here, and my mantra will be "I will be light" Massive hugs to those struggling xxxx0 -

Still here Ceridwen!:D I am here peeping out at the real world from beneath my metaphorical duvet that I would like to hide under! Like you said, I feel I have to keep up with what's going on here even though it depresses the pants off me. I have no confidence in our Taoiseach (prime minister) nor in his cronies. We are having to have this "bailout" ie a gigantic loan and I can't imagine how long it will take to pay back ... including some from the UK who have had to borrow too! So it is all very gloomy here with nothing but austerity on the horizon. But then I paid attention to other stories in the news and thought of what the people in Korea have to put up with and suddenly my worries don't seem so bad. They are in a really frightening situation and you could say the same about other places too. So I am trying to count my blessings. I will be happier when I know what I'm up against when the Budget is announced in a couple of weeks... in the meantime I take deep calming breaths and remind myself of all the good things in my life that no cutbacks can take away. I have people I love who love me too, am surrounded by beauty and I can still find funny things to laugh about.
BTW - I love horror films etc and I pricked up my ears when Mardatha said she was reading a scary book. I think I find them less scary than reality!
I went to Ikea yesterday and they were out of stock of lots of things - certain types of jars and muffin trays. I did wonder if they had been snapped up by people making their own Christmas pressies this year.
No snow here - it is cold enough but not a cloud in the sky today.
Hope everyone is ok .... stay cosy everyone!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I know a standard plumber would be cheaper than the British Gas contract but I think the way the LL sees it is if we have that service from British Gas when things break we don't even have to ring him to tell him, it can just be done and we can sort times someone can be at home directly with British Gas instead of the LL having to be a "middle man" in sorting it out. There's no way I'd go with their service if I had a choice, I think they're overpriced and they do nothing but nag you to sign up to every offer they have! Oh well. We'll see what the landlord says when he sees the report on the boiler anyway.
Our new double glazing on the extension looks good. It's still cold out there as it's unheated but without the horrific draughts we had before. The ceiling is also a bit higher which is nice. When I get home from work I just need to clean up where things got covered in brick dust (he swept but it's still dusty) and give the floor a good mop then I can start moving things back from the dining room into the utility area and get my dining area tidied up in readiness for Christmas as that's where we put our tree
I earned a couple of pounds today. I knit some socks for a friend at work's daughter and had said she could just give me the cost of the wool (which I actually bought so long ago I barely remember the cost!) but she insisted on giving me a bit more so that's me £10 up on what I expected to be today.
It's currently snowing a bit outside but only gently and I don't think it's going to get heavier today or stick, who knows though. As long as we can get my mum to the airport on Saturday morning then over to visit the in-laws I'll be happy!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

the firestation is literally a 30 second drive from my house so wouldn't have cost that much to get there but DH ended up with the car, mainly because of the snow/ice that we got and after seeing the weather forecast for the rest of the day - he realised that if it did snow(like predicted) then there's noway i would be picking him up from work!!
would have quite like to check out the firemen though
i feel ill, i started with a sore throat last night and have done nothing but sneeze all morningwe don't have any honey or fresh lemons in and there's only one lot of lemsip in the cupboard but we do have lots of paracetamol and ibuprofen so that will have to do me for now
gonna do a batch of fairy cakes and a batch of biscuits today, also going to make some sausage and apple pasties for tea and the freezer and i might have to go and get some spuds as i don't think we have enough - hopefully won't have to though and today will be a NSD!!!
DD is desperate to put out tree up so DH has said we can do it next friday once she's home from school as he's not working so we can all decorate the tree then
call me selfish if you want but i like to do the tree on my own at night with a glass or two of baileys(well the cheap stuff, i don't do proper baileys :rotfl:) but i am looking forward to us all decoratingt he tree - even if next day i redo it all cos it doesn't look 'right' :rotfl:0
