call me selfish if you want but i like to do the tree on my own at night with a glass or two of baileys(well the cheap stuff, i don't do proper baileys :rotfl:) but i am looking forward to us all decoratingt he tree - even if next day i redo it all cos it doesn't look 'right' :rotfl:
Lol, we all decorate the tree together and i spend days afterwards 'tweaking' it where DH and the kids haven't got it to my standards :rotfl: I'm a fussy mare sometimes.
Hello everyone,
Not posted for a while again, real life keeps getting in the way. Many congrats to Annie & Monty, what lovely newsand all the other OS mums-to-be
We had our 20 week scan a few weeks ago and found out we're having another girl
quite a shock as i was convinced it was another boy but we're thrilled.
Has anyone else noticed how expensive some charity shops are getting? I went in to Barnardos today whilst in town looking for baby clothes (we kept all DS's so are overrun with blue bits but have nothing for a girl and hardly any neutrel stuff) and they wanted £1.99 for one short sleeved baby vest - straight across the road in Asda you can get a pack of 3 for £2I'm all for supporting charities and buying used instead of new if possible but just can't afford to do it when i works out like that.
Freezing cold here today but no snow yet much to my relief and DH and the kids disappointment lol
Hope everyone is ok

lol! We have 2 big trees - one in the lounge which is 'mine' to decorate and colour themed to match and very subtle (all in creams/ golds/ bronzes with plain little white lights) and one in the playroom/ family room which the children decorate. Lots of clashing colours, mulicoloured lights which are shaped like pink angels, other chasing muticoloured lights, homemade things and things they choose (usually get to choose a new one each each year) and some disney ones we bought on hoilday the other year. I don't tweak that one - the only thing I do is put the lights on as they do like them spaced around but haven't mastered the art.
Presents for our household go under the lounge tree and for elsewhere go under the playroom tree.
The children also each have a little tree in their rooms - so we have 6 in total...:D
And I'll agree over charity shops' prices. There's been a few brnad new gift sets/ candles in a couple recently that have been about 50p/ £1 cheaper than if bought in the original shop - and the packaging hasn't always been immaculate. And things like mat0lan tshirts for £5 - huh?
SOmetimes it just doesn't make sense...I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Having a dilemma today, DS12 has two navy long sleeved thermal tops he wears under his school uniform, but school have said that he can no longer wear them under his short sleeved PE top as they show that they are not black to match the uniform. Have been searching online and cant buy black thermal tops anywhere, does anybody have any suggestions?
Primark had boys 'heat generating' thermal tops in black and white for £7 - they are the scretchy sports types ones, more expensive than their noraml thermals but less than the sports 'baselayers' my ds likesPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

greent - your playroom tree sounds like my main tree :rotfl: I like mismatched decorations (well not mismatched as such but I like to buy unusual ones when I see them so have little wooden ones and mini stuffed animals and such) and multi coloured lights. We have a mini tree in the living room that is all matchy (red and gold) but it still has multi-coloured lights on it :rotfl:
Speaking of lights I'd love a new set for our big tree. The ones I have were very cheap LED ones so cheap to run as well but they have a "clear" plastic wire which isn't clear at all, it looks white against the tree and they're neon blue, green, red and orange and it's just a bit too much! It seems all anywhere does now though is super bright LED lights and I want energy efficient ones but I do wish the colour was a little more subtle. It looks like a disco when they're on!
Going to do a little Christmas shopping with my husband after work, imagine we wont last long but we're going to have a nosey at what's available and also see if we can get him some new work shoes cheap as his current ones have holes in and it was snowing today  can't have him getting cold, wet toes :rotfl:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

What unprofessional behaviour! Do make a complaint to the practice manager. They are there for your benefit not the other way around! Without patients/ clients health professionals and their support staff woulds be out of a job!

What ridiculous rules! This reminds me of my time as a school nurse in a huge north London comprehensive where the insistence that the boys wear blazers even in the hottest summer conditions led to a fair few fainting. How can a youngster pay attention in class i.e .learn if they are so uncomfortable whatever extremes of temperature apply at the time? Sounds like time to take the idiots on at their own game.
Congrats to all those expecting.
Hearing of problems with boilers reminds me of the family firm who do our annual service. They never advertise as word of mouth keeps them extremely busy. Our boiler is about 10 plus years old and we're told not to replace as it's so efficient! The son who does our service told us that the oldest boiler he knows which is still going well for the old lady who owns it is about 43 years old. He reckons British Gas are rip off merchants...! Seems the proverbial 'Little Man' if you can get hold of him is the best best at maintenance and minimising costs.
How many of you do your weekly shopping around several shops? Was discussing this during my embroidery class yesterday and many seemed to think it was too much clat. Seemed to think it wasn't worth the petrol....
We ARE fortunate to live off a high street - our town was originally 5 villages and our 'village' still has most of its shopping area. Also we have Aldi at the end of our road and a Mr M a mile drive away.
When we moved to my home town OH couldn't find work so took over the house and has his own routine. He has the shopping down to fine art and knows where everything is cheapest.
Lately he's had a trapped nerve in his leg causing mobility probs. Being treated by GP but seems to sleep even later in the mornings due to the medication if that's possible! Was up by 7.30 this morning and ready to go out to the shops by 9:10. Horridly cold but luckily no snow yet and did high st and Aldi on my todd. It makes me realise how spoilt I've been for years now.
We went to Mr. M together and thankfully DH didn't have much of the pain he's been having lately.
Best wishes to all who are low at this time of year. I personally find it a struggle through to early March. I keep reminding myself that this time last year I was walking with 2 sticks and doing 112 lengths of my 9m passage = 1km as it was too dangerous for me to go out into the freezing conditions with my history of falling. Physio and GP thought me mad but by walking indoors with the Irish music on I didn't gain an ounce in weight. Told them that I had to treat the situation as though I were a prisoner !
Leeks in this weeks Aldi super 6 -so off to make Leek and Potato bake for tea.0 -
Congratulations to all those expecting mums!!! You must all be really excited especially if its your first one!! My boys were at school today they weren't some of the lucky ones in Aberdeenshire to have their school closed because of the weather!! We are on the coast so its not lying here the same. Its still freezing though. Not much news still planning xmas, have a few frugal ideas (homemade things) for a few of the older people I give to, but still waiting for payday to get going properly, 29 sleeps eh!!!! Scarey stuff, hugs to all who need it.0

I do go to several different shops and like your dh, even in the early years of my marriage I knew all the prices in all the shops for things I bought regularly and knew which had the best deals for them.
What a good idea about the walking! I gained a stone last year because I fell in the snow and it scared me into staying in most of the time. I did walk up and down the two flights of stairs but not nearly enough it seems.0 -
Thanks Frugal. Just signed up.
I told my childmider my news today and she said that if it is a boy then she has an attic full of baby boy clothes (she has two boys) that she has been itching to get rid of and I can have them for nothing. She's lovely and my little girl will really miss her but she starts school in September and would have stopped going anyway.'Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.'
Proud Mummy to two gorgeous miracles.:j0 -
i always go to a vaiety of shops, i'm getting a bit miffed at Asdas , i used to buy their packs of 15 'luxury' sausages, right, a few weeks ago they were £2.00, bargain! then last week they were back up to £3.00 , yesterday when i did the shopping they have gone up to £4.00! all in a few weeks, wont be able to afford to eat soon at this rate! or we could just have 'shimshams' as my nan used to say, has anyone heard of them?:rotfl:
congrats to all the expectant mums on here, i'm envious, although i probably wouldnt be able to manage the sleepless nights anymore, i'm up at 5,30 am each morning to help my son get ready for work, it seems to be beyond him to get ready on his own, he's forever shouting up the stairs 'wheres the iron?' or 'wheres the cornflakes?' so i just find it easier to get it myself, only a few more weeks and he's promised to pay back all the money he's borrowed in the last three months, we shall see!0 -

I LOVE our mismatched tree, it's a little microcosm of our history, it's got some glass decorations that I remember my Mum loving and cherishing (she died when I was 12 (nearly 30 years ago), plus a dreadful blown egg that I decorated as a small child. Plus decorations that OH and I have bought when we've been various places during our time together. It's not colour matched and subtle but I wouldn't change it for the world!Piglet
