Hi everyone. Have only skim read to catch up so sorry if I have missed things, thanks for your concern frugal and ()s to those trying to deal with alcohol "issues" - hate that word but can't think of a better one right now! Especially hard when you are having to stand by someone else. Also, I know buying alcohol for whatever reason blows a big hole in my budget - at least chocolate is cheaper!

Stupidly busy at the moment. I feel like a not very good plate spinner. Also worrying myself sick about Dept of Agriculture Inspection this week and next. About 14 years ago we were severely penalised for having a single ear tag number misrecorded (one digit in a long number - a 2 for a 7 or something - this was in the days of small metal eartags that were not as easy to read as the newer and bigger plastic ones) - there was no question of fraud and the guys who did the inspection said it wouldn't be a problem - genuine mistake/clerical error etc etc - but it was. It was at the time of BSE and in fact we lost our whole HLCA payment (a big chunk of our income) for "failing to keep accurate records". What really gets my goat though, is that the Dept can make all the mistakes it likes (and does!) without penalty, including once sending us a batch of cattle passports for someone farming in Wales. Anyway, worrying won't help - or make a bit of difference to the outcome - and only making OH worry too - but I wish it was over.

Hugs to all those that need them. Sorry to hear that people are having such a hard time with ex's, OH's and anyone else.

After a very quick and easy journey by car to the O2 to watch Disney on Ice my little girl was more interested in the lights, sound effects and technical side of what was going on! She really takes after her dad. We didn't stay for the finale as she was sooo tired and wanted to go home. Rush hour in London is horrific! On the way home my car was making this really high pitched squeeling noise. Was very worried as just forked out £1000 in July to have it road worthy. Anyway popped into my local Kwik-fit who looked it over and said that a metal bit on the brakes was bent and needed replacing. They replaced it and charges me a grand total of £0!!!! I could have cried with joy. I humbly thanked the lovely man and made sure that there really was nothing to pay and he just insisted it was no problem and wished me a good day! There are wonderful people out there! :A

  • Hello

Hope you don't mind me joining, I am a lurker and don't really post much but loving the winter prep thread as everyone I speak to are of the 'never happen to me' frame of mind some didn't even bring coats in the middle of last years and years before horrendousness as they drive but stored nothing in their car! Brrrrrr

I am nearly sorted for winter, just looking for a storage box for some food ( mines gluten free so really expensive and the first to run out/ not be stocked!) dont want anything nibbling at my £2 for 500g packs of pasta eeek!

Anyway I thought may be useful in Birmingham market there were cream fleece blankets for a pound, also in Primark reduced were huge spotty snuggly throws (think dalmation) I think they were £1.50, there were other fleeces/bits and bobs so if your near you may want to check it out. In Birmingham they were on the first floor back right corner :). I'm sorted as my fleeces for ok from last year.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi guys

welcome gothic girl thanks for tips think I need to get down to primark pronto.

kitty-hope you ok after your fall.

annie56 glad to see you back and happy.

    kath-glad your dads on mend

sammy k-hope you ok been quiet last few days.

frugal -you made me chuckle well done on taking the pans I think under circumstances I would have done the same.

jedi teacher-glad you had nice time.

Thanks everyone for nappy rash suggestions she has it really bad on her back bottom but also on her thighs which is odd. I use cloth nappies change her every couple of hours bar nightime and give her nappy free time. Not sure if shes teething again as poos practically every nappy plus been so grumpy and not sleeping.

finding half term a challange as weather been so poor and had long walk to swimming pool each day but eldest did really well in lessons today was so proud.

last night hubby put up 4shelves and new towell rail hes quite pleased with himself still got to finish painting, repair huge hole and get a toiliet roll holder put up.
Hes brought end of line matching towell rain, soap holder but nervous as sure he will wreck the tiles.

Hes decided he wants to try laying the wood floor himself as wnats it nice when my mam comes over sat to babysit as 6year wedding anniversary.

Hes not as flush money wise as he thourght think hes underestimated extra costs this month as he taxed the micra 120quid and brought lots of stuff for house.
Im not sure if hes going to have to do payday loan as would rather he do that than go begging to his mam again.

paydays not until 15th hes got bills coming out still , fags he sadly cant love without and petrol for work.

He overspent sunday as had to pay sons mam 60quid and took eldest daughter and his son out too free musuem wass just 3quid to park, packed snacks, sent him invitation book for maccy ds maybe. petrol was cheaper to do day out in wales as son lives over there. anyway he spent over 30quid as brought them all sunday lunch at museum restaurant and stuff in gift shop so not as cheap as planned.

was hoping inland revenue cheque arrive today and that will take 5days to clear.
all my money is spent on debts and eldest swim lessons
trying to sell some more stuff on ebay hopefully but it worries me.
we fine for food at least.

Made yummy shepards pie last night.

missed mirror token yesterday hoping hubbys staffroom got 1 floating about.think i got until next wed to catch up still think its a better deal if can get to pick up toy daily but just impossible for me.

Popped in to see mate with newborn forget how tiny they are.
she seemed fixated with petrol and vat rises of how petrol coup go up 5p a litre and schools funding might be cut.

Having dillema over pram need a double for when baby comes.
was contemplating buying new but not sure buy before vat goes up as think its just 10quid cheaper or do i buy 2nd hand older model even if new ones better my hearts arguing with my head on this one.

brought the new i paper from independant super bargain at 20p a day, wonder how long it stay at that price. hubby says we get our bus fares worth if we get free metro paper.

Sorry for people suffering from alchol issues.

have alcholics in my family history.
Find a lot of time its limked to depression or stress as thats catalyst to have a drink.

when met hubby used to be heavy drinker myself as as quite unhappy and stressed at work.
During final year uni got very depressed and drank a lot.

I like enough to get merry but not poorly.
Since having kids definatly cant face the hangovers.
preg at moment so drinking hardly anything.
Both me and hubby like to treat ourself to odd bottle of wine some weeks and drink together in evening usually with meal.
We rarly go out too. Think part of problem is its so more expensive to drink out at pubs restaurant than it is to drink at home.

Think in past pub landlords regulated things better and would turn away people who had had enough. Also freinds with you would help you out too if in bad way.
when you at home drinking alone its all too tempting to drink more.

Hubby took bmw of doom to work today as dropped us off at swimming and had to fill front tyre air again im sure he needs new tyre but putting it off.
Sick of spending money on blooming thing cant wait to get rid.
dad said he help him fix window at back curremtly taped shut very glassya nd glue pannels on inside of back. bggest worry is the blooming warning light garage can find no reason for it being on only suggestion made was maybe it needs official bmw cat which is more pricey but its had new exhaust and 3catelettic converters think theis maybe difficult when we come to sell. Its got such high milage cant see it being worth more than 2grand should have got rid of 2years ago like I said as spent more on it than its worth.

Jediteacher - I found that both of mine were not as impressed as I expected, they complained they were bored half way though. Whereas the classic fairy tales one (not on ice) I took my four year old too as birthday treat she was enthralled all the way though. In retrospect they need to be able to appreciate the dancing and ice skating - and I think my two were a little young. Ironically I think my 16yo would have appreciated it most (and she said she wouldnt be seen dead at a Disney event!!)
My DS6 is going to see Fireman Sam show this weekend - not told him yet as I really couldnt face all the constant countdowns etc!!

On an OS note I popped into Tesco yesterday and could not believe how expensive everything was, managed to get two advent calendars on 2 for £3 so will only need two more, but still it was more expensive than anywhere else I have shopped recently by a mile. My meal plan ran out a few days ago and I never got round to redoing it, really regretting it now as I am always trying to come up with meals and its very wearing. Its lovely outside here today - just wish I had managed to get washing done and out but unfortunately DS12 and DD16 both had friends sleep over last night and the noise was so bad I didnt get to sleep till half seven this morning - consequently am exhausted and doing bare minimum again today - other than ferrying them and friends to their various stuff today.

Sending good thoughts to everyone out there - looks as though many need them, havent got any real advice over alcohol probs - just to say I lived next door to an alcoholic when I was growing up and having spent many nights listening to the sound of his wifes head hitting the wall I have a very wary attitude to drinking problems - so for all those who have partners with a problem - please do not silently put up with it.

I stopped shopping in tesco a while back as found it quite pricey even more so than sainsburys. Plus they built super huge one and neither me or hubby got patiance to go round it.

    we do mix of

lidls/farmfoods, sainsburys and morrisons as all close by.
    Asda stressed us both out!

sure i seen advent calenders for pound each somewhere.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm neither of us live there... its still full of BOTH our stuff, and HE took mine before I ever took his!

the stuff he has taken that i bought cost me money... the cruset pans he got for free.... go figure :p

not to mention that he had the full use of ALL my stuff (he came to live with me and had nothing but a suitcase of clothes, i on the other hand had a houseful of equipment, tools etc etc etc) AND he has left me with debt.

can't see how taking a few pans, when he had the use of the rest of my stuff... curtains, pictures, towels, bedding, kitchen goods, DIY tools, sofas, furniture etc etc etc when he lived there for a year after i left, whilst i am still paying some of the mortgage, is a bad thing.

I can see my oppinion was unpopular by the thanks but my Nan always taught me the os way is that two wrongs dont make a right. He's wronged you but stealing his possessions is still moraly wrong IMHO.
Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Find joy in the simple things, show your love for those around you and be grateful for all that you have. :)

    Hello princesstipytoes.

Please dont think your post was unpopular, I admire your moral stance and applaude it, just sometimes its nice to know the full story behind a posting.

In my case I took the greenhouse the shed and our brand new bed when I found out what he was up to (long story) and in hindsight it was taking a poke at him, was easier than doing something daft to myself/him so I fell back on my sense of humour, and yes I probably did do some not so nice things but thats all part of a long journey to where I am today, involving hate anger disillusionment and some of my postings were quite humourous (well I thought they were:o) at the time, they were my way of coping with what had happened in my life.

See when a relationship breaks down, sometimes its not a good and even balanced split and things kinda get lost in the day to day sorting it out and it quite often doesnt get sorted fairly one way or another.but we get there, I know I upset my father when I said I was getting a divorce, hes Catholic and divorce is the absolute last resort in his world, but I chose my path and live with it knowing I have upset my dad in my decision but he has honoured my choice when I explained it fully from my point of view.

Posting on the forums doesnt always meet with the same opinions of the many, but I liked the way you felt that you could put your point forward and if anyone has a differing opinion they will answer you with the politness and consideration that they have always done mine, maybe some wont agree but thats the lovley thing re this country and this forum in general , we can have an opinion and long may that freedom be ours.

    Best wishes Princesstippytoes

  • Havnt been on here for a while. Have been OS in an expensive way. Didnt have curtains on my front bay window as couldnt find a decent bay pole, after a lot of searching I found one half price but it was still £100!!! That hurt paying for that but I got lovely curtains cheap that are lined so will help keep the heat in. Went to the pictures yesterday, costs a second mortgage these days! The 3D effect was good though. It was the one about the owls, Guardians of something.

Really worried about work. I work for a local authority and they have announced 1,000 redundancies. Im already having my wages cut by 20%. Ive got insurance that pays my mortgage for a year and savings and no debt but worry about finding a job that has flexible hours. Im on my own with my daughter and childcare isnt too good, can only manage a 9-5 job but employers arent happy when you have to leave to pick kids up. I dont have any frineds/family that could help either.
I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round
