  • Hi just wanted to say, that I am sorry to hear about the problems some of you are having. I do know that no matter how concerned a person is at a loved one's drinking, that it is the drinker who has to decide they need help. You could plead with them all day long to stop and get help but they have to want to stop themselves. It is very very difficult and painful to watch someone destroy their health. Best wishes Margaret x

  • Reading the posts about alcohol make me feel uneasy, because i know me and OH drink too much. THe problem is i love the feeling of being a bit merry.............. Cost was an issue but now i brew my own, works out at £1.30 a bottle of red wine. Red wine is my poison, i love it, always drink in the house as can't afford to go out, drink most nights, can always find a justification, i feel happy, i feel stressed, it's the weekend, people come round. It is my guilty pleasure, deep down i know i should do something about it, but the honest truth is i want to drink more than i want to give up! Confession over:(

    I know the feeling lovelife.

Hippeechiq and anguk - thanks for giving me hope that people can get better. It's so easy to jump on this subject with doom and gloom that he will never change, and he'll drag me down with him and we'll have a rubbish life etc. But I'm far more hopeful than that!

Project MSE health is now underway. ;)

    Can I rant please?
Went to old house (still own it with ex altho neither of us live there) to get a box I had packed up with a load of my candles/holders and some sentimental stuff only to find that ex has mistakenly taken it to the tip... He had a big sort out, claims he never saw a box of my stuff, but nobody else could have taken it  He is renowned for 'forgetting' stuff.

Keep hearing fireworks going off here, random ones so no doubt its kids that have got hold of the odd one here and there  Fluffing hate fireworks and wish they weren't sold to the public :o

JAMs and Preserves.... ordered lakeland jars and lids a few days ago, now find MrT value jam at 29p a jar!!! Could have bought 12 jars much cheaper but am trying to think what I would have done with 12 jars of cheap jam - couldn't bear/bare (sp never sure on that one!) to throw it out but can't see me using it!!! suggestions please? :D

Hope everyone is well and keeping warm

    Nite folks :)

Frugal I do hope that they weren't expensive candles as I would have been demanding payment for the candles, or replacements.

We have had fireworks going off at past bedtime here, I rang the police the other day as some inconsiderate scroats were letting them off at midnight in our road. And they weren't small ones either, they were the bangers..my poor dog kept barking everytime, and the other dog just kept looking and creeping up on the bed. Don't know where the cats were, I think they had scarpered somewhere in the house. My little cat kept creaping back for a cuddle but everytime a firework went off she ran again. So I had enough and rang the police and reported a disturbance. Apparently I wasn't the only one in the road that had rung either..:D

With the jam can you not make pancakes and use jam and icecream as filling, make a couple of victoria sponges and freeze them. Heat the jam and fold it in to muffin mixes :) That way you can keep the jars and not feel guilty about using the jam :)

Have been watching Kims Rude Awakening on t.v. and it has inspired me to get going in the house. I had to turn my heating off this morning, although it was only on low, as it is now mild outside and raining. No washing hanging outside today :( And there is a Norovirus going around Swale..ugh!! Keep it away from me I don't want it.. :(

Natty68 - some of them were expensive :( I reckon the whole box probably equated to around £60-£80. But worse than the financial loss is the constant denial from him - I could cry with frustration sometimes :(
  • I haven't a hope of catching up on what I missed whilst I was offline for a few days!

The epic involving our landlord and the letting agents contines. We have now spoken to the actual landlord who says we don't have to clear out the extension, he's just having double glazing put in where currently it's old and draughty single glazing. We can leave the appliances in there and just need to move any other bits and bobs which isn't a problem. Hopefully having it double glazed will make the house a bit warmer this winter, fingers crossed!

I got my boots back from the cobbler re-heeled and looking very smart so am feeling pleased with that, it cost £9 which I thought was a bit steep but they were wrecked and it's a lot cheaper than a new pair of boots!

    WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :j:j:j:j:j

2 great things just happened :D

The surveyor from WARMFRONT came to assess my heating efficiency and has decided that I need a new boiler for which I will get a grant to bring it up to legal requirements :D My current boiler runs at about 50% efficiency and the new one will run at around 95% I reckon that will give me big savings. Downside is it could be 4-6 months until i get it done so it might not get done til April

Also, my lakeland order of jam jars arrived so I have been out in the garden picking my crabapples ready for my first attempt at crabapple jelly :D

My Nana would be proud (well, if it works that is!)

Hope everyone is having a good day :)
  • I cannot spare the time to catch up with all posts, so will say hugs to all who need and cheers for all who have achieved! Annie, how DARE someone send rude PMs! I have always thought that this thread was a nice safe place to come. I really, really hope it does not go down the pan. Sammy Kaye, the hv is just spouting the mantra she has been given. You are the mum, you will know what is best for your baby. As for anyone suggesting a small child should be left to cry hungry, it breaks my heart! Can't remember whose child fell down the stairs, my DD2 was forever falling down the stairs, you would suddenly hear bumpbumpbumpbump, then "I'm all right!" Luckily, they seem to be made of rubber!! My redundancy should be finalised within the next couple of weeks so I shall have to well and truly get myself comfortable on the OS bandwagon.

  • Car is in for its MOT. We already know that it will cost a minimum of £400 to fix and it could well be a lot more if the axle and brake disks need replacing too (they won't know that until they take it apart).

DH and I had a chat and decided to tell them we're happy to pay the labour costs for them to check what needs doing and then to check back with us and let us know what it would cost to fix. Then we'll either scrap it or replace it.

Thankfully we have the money as we were saving for a deposit on a house. It's just a shame as it puts any hope of buying further off into the future. I suppose that will be the case even if we can get it through this year's MOT, as it needs replacing (with another second-hand one of course!) at some point regardless. Still sucks though! Oh well, at least the cash IS there for it, it could be worse!

Going in to town in a bit and may look at swimsuits as we still haven't taken DS swimming and he's nearly six months. This is mainly because there is no baby pool locally and I don't drive but I must confess that I am also not looking forward to looking like a beached whale in a sausage skin and spending an hour or so getting cold and trying to keep a fractious baby warm and above water! We need to get him used to water though for safety's sake. So I guess we need to start sometime!

One of the signs of being an alcoholic is denying you have a drink problem.

Sounds like my Dr, she insists it isn't possible for someone to drink as little as I do.
