  • Kittie - so glad it wasn't your head - we had an horrendous experience with dh falling off a ladder a few years ago - but still make sure you rest - it's still a terrible shock - take it easy if you can for a few days

  • Zara,
I've just remembered from my H/V work that the organisation Al-Anon is for families of people with alcohol problems. The only phone no I have to hand is a London one..... 020 7403 0888. The other option is to google them I guess. So sorry to hear of your dilemma and the other's advice is good. I hope this helps, Wishing you all the best at this difficult time

Just saw that you had an awful fall today- 5 steps ain't funny.. Hope you're OK- mind you'll probably feel it more in the morning so do try to keep moving. Some years ago I went flying down two steps in our London house just before I had to drive 200 miles north. I too was thankful for plenty of padding at the time. I swear it pemanently dented my cellulite and the female members of the family were treated to viewings of the bruise across my entire backside!! Ouch! I really feel for you.. hope you recover quickly.

IMHO it is theft to take something your ex acquired after you left. I think that is out of order and not something to be aplauded.
Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Find joy in the simple things, show your love for those around you and be grateful for all that you have. :)

hmmmmmmmmmmmm neither of us live there... its still full of BOTH our stuff, and HE took mine before I ever took his!

the stuff he has taken that i bought cost me money... the cruset pans he got for free.... go figure :p

not to mention that he had the full use of ALL my stuff (he came to live with me and had nothing but a suitcase of clothes, i on the other hand had a houseful of equipment, tools etc etc etc) AND he has left me with debt.

can't see how taking a few pans, when he had the use of the rest of my stuff... curtains, pictures, towels, bedding, kitchen goods, DIY tools, sofas, furniture etc etc etc when he lived there for a year after i left, whilst i am still paying some of the mortgage, is a bad thing.

Zarazara, hugs to you. I've known alcoholics and I think Mambury is spot on with her insights. I'm not a fan of the 12 Step approach (AA, Al Anon for relatives also) although many find it valuable. In college had a module on behavioural psychology and a wee bit on addiction - after that I was convinced that dealing with the underlying problems (often low self esteem and stress) would have helped my loved ones a lot more. I'll have my fingers crossed for you, your son and his GF.

    For the frosting:

300g icing sugar (I used 250g as I find 300g is too much)
100g unsalted butter at room temp (I used 80g)
    40g cocoa powder
40ml whole milk (I used semi, and didn't measure it)

    Frosting method:

Beat icing sugar, butter and cocoa on med-slow speed until well mixed.
Turn down to slow speed and gradually add milk.
Once milk incorporated, turn to high speed and beat for at least 5 mins until light and fluffy.
Spoon onto cupcakes (or pipe if you're feeling fancy!)
    Decorate with pretty things :j

    Enjoy!

Katholics - hope you dad settles home ok.

Gailey - I used cocoa butter cream on my second child, he had the worst nappy rash I had ever seen and nothing shifted it, then a friend of my nan told me about cocoa butter cream (99p in home bargains etc) apparently her nurse had recommended it when she had bed sores - tried it and it worked brilliantly.
    :rotfl:
I had just read BB's recipe for cupcakes and when I read your post I thought you mean cocoa buttercream icing!

Frugal, the bit I'm shocked at is that someone gave away Le Creuset on Freecycle!!!! You must be in a dead posh area! :D
