Thanks for that. There is the additional factor that this health vsiting service has been 'Tuped' over to the council but NHS terms and conditions have to be honoured, I think it is for 3 years. So I'm sure you're right about this. I still get emails from Nursing Times and observe in the posts that NHS / health workers in hospital or community settings are having to deal with all sorts of outrageous managment tacticcs. I will encourage my friend to go to HR as well as the Union, Every manager , after all, has a manager. If everyone stuck together perhaps they'd get away with less?0 -
When was this diabetes prog on ? Can I get it on catchup ?0
-
She's given the NHS at least 25 years of service and now with the additional worry of her new 8 week old grandaughter being born with a very serious health problem she's just been informed by the manager that she will not be allowed a phased return to work- She's on a full time contract , too young for early retirement and will eventually be able to resume her normal work. Instead tha manager has informed her that she's putting her onto part time hours! Whilst she will take Union advice neither if us has been able to ascertain whether a change in a public service contract can simply be imposed in ths fashion? Does anyone know if it's legal to do this?
Not unless the manager wants to face legal action on both health and safety and constructive dismissal grounds.
Your friend needs to be referred to the occupational health department who will advise what sort of phased return she needs. She could try and refer herself as she is aLLOWED TO DO THIS.
And send a letter to the HR department sharpish, stating she ultimately want full-time employment but needs phased return. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Just popping in to say hope kittie feeling ok, you really need to take it easy tonight, and will probably feel wobbly and very sore tomorrow. Definitely time for a nice warm drink and a rest.0

omg. I just had a terrible heavy fall from the top to the bottom of 5 slippy wooden steps at home. I have just taken the arnica and count my blessings in being well padded because if I were thin I would definitely have broken my hip. No more, ever again will I bemoan the fact that I cannot lose weight and yes I did see that diabetes prog last night and am again grateful that my blood sugar is normal and my insulin is working. My bp is very good and I am healthy, apart from knowing that I will have a massive bruise on my derriere and up my back and shoulder. It takes a while to come around after an fall like that, I tentatively took one step then another and waited for some horrible symptom to emerge, which it hasn`t and I am very grateful
Now I am going to find rubber step covers.
Sorry to read about your fall. Hope you have not been hurt too badly.
Thanks to everyone for comments about Dad, the ambulance bought him home tonight. We visited this afternoon and discovered that he had been kept off his oxygen all night long and was in a right state without it. Eventually at almost 10am this morning a staff nurse found him in a bit of a mess and put him straight back on it. When i got up there this afternoon i asked a nurse for the doctors name and an explanation....she went away and came back again a while later and said it was to test his sats...but he has never gone 20 hours without his oxygen since he started needing to be on it everyday, even when his sats have been tested previously in hospital...i think it was a balls up and someone forgot to make sure he was put back on it when he should have been.
Anyway, while we were there the nurse said that they have no beds on the respiratory ward still so the doc had said he could go home....he has been in since Sat night and hasn;t even seen a respiratory doctor yet.
To say the right habd doesn't know what the left is doing is an understatement of magnificent proportions.
I made sure i was there for when he and mum were bought home by ambulance....he had to have oxygen acess and from the short journey from the ambulance door to Dad's front door he needed oxygen as soon as he got through the door. Bless him.
The right side of his heart is very weak and he shouldn't be off oxygen for long because his heart has to work all the harder and with the blood clots not dispersing he is having a tough time. Thanks all for your kindnesses to me and mine.
On an OS level, today was an NSD, i've managed without the heating on today, i ate at Mums this evening and i am starting to join some of my granny squares up for the blanket i am working on for a Christmas prezzie.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
NSD Challenge: October 0/140 -
baby has nappy rash so hoping it might help sooth as sudocrem not working.
Going to try cornstarch later as thats worked in past was oldstyle tip from my crazy midwife.
.
Gailey - another old style tip is to lightly whip an egg white and after baby has been bathed and dried - paint the sore areas with the egg white and allow baby to kick with nappy off while it dries...it will form a an effective but skin-breathable barrier than will allow the skin to heal and it doesn't clog the nappy as creams etc can do0 -
Kezlou requested this recipe, so I've finally gotten round to digging out the recipe book, and here it is: (BTW it's from The Hummingbird Bakery book, beautiful cook book p0rn!)
For the cakes (makes 12):
120g plain flour
140g caster sugar (I used 120g)
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
pinch salt
80g unsalted butter at room temp
120ml whole milk (I used semi)
2 eggs
120g mashed banana (I used 2 small manky ones)
I also added a couple of tbsps of cocoa powder to make them extra chocolatey
For the frosting:
300g icing sugar (I used 250g as I find 300g is too much)
100g unsalted butter at room temp (I used 80g)
40g cocoa powder
40ml whole milk (I used semi, and didn't measure it)
Cupcake method:
Preheat oven to 170C / 325F / GM3
Put flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, salt and butter (and cocoa if using) into a electric mixer ( I used an electric handheld whisk). Beat at slow speed until mixture is sandy and combined (BE WARNED - your kitchen and self may get covered in flour/cocoa powder at this point!)
Slowly pour milk in, then eggs beating til well mixed.
Stir in mashed banana.
Spoon into cupcake cases - should be about two thirds full - and bake in oven for about 20 mins or until the sponge bounces back when touched. (I found they needed at least 5 mins extra). Turn out onto wire rack to cool, then frost and decorate :T
Frosting method:
Beat icing sugar, butter and cocoa on med-slow speed until well mixed.
Turn down to slow speed and gradually add milk.
Once milk incorporated, turn to high speed and beat for at least 5 mins until light and fluffy.
Spoon onto cupcakes (or pipe if you're feeling fancy!)
Decorate with pretty things :j
Enjoy!

Katholics - hope you dad settles home ok.
Gailey - I used cocoa butter cream on my second child, he had the worst nappy rash I had ever seen and nothing shifted it, then a friend of my nan told me about cocoa butter cream (99p in home bargains etc) apparently her nurse had recommended it when she had bed sores - tried it and it worked brilliantly.0 -

Kittie - another alternative is to paint the steps with sand mixed into the paint. This will make it much less slippery. I hope you are ok... hope you don't get too much bruising or pain over the next few days
Can I rant please?
Went to old house (still own it with ex altho neither of us live there) to get a box I had packed up with a load of my candles/holders and some sentimental stuff only to find that ex has mistakenly taken it to the tip... He had a big sort out, claims he never saw a box of my stuff, but nobody else could have taken it  He is renowned for 'forgetting' stuff.
He has also taken other things that I had before we even met or that I bought when we were together...
Anyway, remembered that he acquired a LOAD of stuff from freecycle after I left.... including... wait for it... Le Cruset pan set :j
 hmmmmmm don't know where they went:whistle:
Also, he was supposed to get the children to call me yesterday... didn't get a call but was promised (again) that he would call today... NOTHING  He is soooooooooo ruining his chances of me agreeing to taking them for holidays again. They are only 4 and a half
Rant over.
Katholicos - Been thinking of you and your Dad a lot. My Dad is out of hospital thank goodness. Strain on stepmum is hard. I am going to sit with Dad later this week whilst she has a much needed outing. Love my stepmum loads and I know how tough this is on her. She lost her last hubby thru cancer so can only imagine how worried she is about Dad
