Haha!!!! If you were half as kind to yourself as you are to anyone else........................ Take a hug and be kind to you for a change :kisses3:You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -

One thing that strikes me about you feeling "unproductive" - is how long has it been since you left the job? There is a theory with physical illness that if something is longstanding then expect it to take a month of getting rid of for each year you've had the illness. I dont know how true that is - but maybe the same thing applies for each year of stress one has had.
I do hope not - as, if so, it could take some months to "get going" properly after I eventually retire - but I've decided that (come the time) it may not be that realistic of me to expect to launch straight into my New Life the following week. I might have to lead up to it a bit gently and personally I expect to be going "full speed ahead" say 6 months or so after I retire - full of energy and feeling much better of myself.
So - I guess what I'm saying is you know just how strain you've been under and how long its been going on for - so work out what you feel is a realistic timetable to allow for "gradual recovery" from that situation before you're expecting yourself to be in full on New Life mode.0 -
Rosanna - it sounds like depression - and don't knock yourself for falling asleep - there are worse things :-)

Morning all, lurker here, I was lucky enough to be rewarded with a slow roast shoulder joint of beef 800g from my mum which was a whoopsie from Mr T's, I would like to do it in the slow cooker today, could anyone advise me if it's ok to do it this way and roughly how much juice/liquid to add, length of cooking time please,
I am thinking of making roasties and roasting bugs bunny carrots/red peppers just before joint is done, never done a joint in the sc as quite a newbie with it.Thriftkitten

(((hugs))) to those feeling poorly or stressed or both. It is so difficult to keep going when you are exhausted, and the thought of bullies making it worse is just awful. I have had a tricky sort of a year as I started a PhD, had bout after bout of colds and then a chest infection, and just felt overwhelmed by the amount of studying. However, since deciding that it wasn't worth it, i have been regaining my strength, enjoying the companionship of my lovely DH, walking the dogs and, yes, taking time to smell the roses! I will always be glad that I tried it, it wasn't for me for all sorts of reasons, but it has taken its toll and I accept that I am not quite back to my sparky self hehehe but hey-ho, I hope to get there.
I am always moved by the level of support on here from peeps who really do look out for each other. This may be a 'virtual' world but i really value the friendships made here and, yes, they are real:).
We certainly have less money than we had and things are not always bouyant but I am picking up ideas here all the time.

Good morning:)
Thanks for all your support and hugs. It's a new day and the sun is shining.:j
Going to try and go out for the day. I hardly ever go out and I think that is part of my problem.:o Got a few Mr T's voucher that expire on Sunday, so going to use those to gain entry to a castle and grounds as it is going to be a lovely day, weatherwise.
Have a good day and thanks again.:)Felines are my favourite

Wow, its so nice to see how the membership of this thread is growing. A big HELLO to all you new posters, welcolme to the family of the glasses half full thread (well most of the time anyway:D).
Gailey, just thinking about babe's sore bum, could it be thrush, mine used to suffer really badly from this, especially when teething. It might be an idea to pop into your GP's and check it out. (I got really upset and frantic when it first happened, thought I was being a bad mummy, not cleaning her properly, tried all the various creams under the sun, until the pharmacy assistant suggested this to me.)
All those who are having bad days, :grouphug:have a big hug from me.
Am fuming at the gov and eu demands but restraining myself from posting.....guess i'm not the only one:o have decided that this is what my blog is going to be about, but quite frankly don't know where to start, there's just so much going on.
Incidently for a good quality tabloid newspaper, the indy have launched the 'i' it costs 20p so does'nt break the bank, and is pretty well balanced in its journalism. gets a :money:from me.

Morning (just) folks
I am at Dads today looking after him whilst SM goes and does a few things in town. I brought them a jar of my newly made crabapple jelly, which I am very proud of, and they were pleased with that. Dad has not enjoyed food since he had the stroke but he looked pleased to have the jelly - I hope he enjoys it. As it was my first attempt, and setting point has always been a mystery to me, its not as soft as the jars my Nana used to make, but i'm sure it will spread if the toast is hot enough
Sadly my 1.5 kilos of crabapples turned into only 3 small jars (I sterilised 8 in my optimism :rotfl:) so, determined to fill all 12 jars from lakeland with SOMETHING, I am making caramelised red onion chutney this afternoonI believe chutney is easier than jams and jellies so fingers crossed this is a success.
After those are done (assuming they are a success) I intend to try HFW River Cottage Chutney, or something similar.
AND when I am more experienced, I am going to try to recreate the "Victorian Chutney" that I buy from the supermarket which I love but would like to be more HM/rustic.
I am still feeling delighted with the fact I will be getting a new boiler to replace my dreadfully inefficient back boiler, from the Gov scheme grant AND it also means I can open up my fireplace and have a real fireor a woodburner. Can wood burners go anywhere that a real fire was previously? Also, has anybody done this who could advise me very roughly on costs.
I am guessing woodburners don't use quite as much wood as an open fire (we used to go thru ridiculous amounts of wood and coal).
Hugs to all those that need them - I do read just about every post but my memory is not good enough to manage personals very often.0 -
Rosanna - don't be too hard on yourself. I think all of us suffer some kind of reaction after giving up a busy working life - whether it's relief, depression, feelings of being unwanted, loss of identity or unexpected lonliness. If you've got time on your hands, have you thought about joining a local U3A group (University of the Third Age). It's a nationwide body for retired/semi retired people from all kinds of professions and work occupations and not full of stuffy intellectuals you would imagine by its name. And you certainly don't have to have had a university degree to join. They run all kinds of interest groups from Garden visits, computer users, book groups, walkers, ornithologists, art, music, language groups and have a general monthly meeting with a guest speaker on a topic of interest. If you Google "U3A" you should be able to find where your nearest group is.0
