Um, shouldn't that me a metre? :rotfl: Sorry, just a little American to British humour.
Everyone is so supportive on this thread, I read it every day!! This month has been so very tight after a summer of 3 birthdays and 2 camping trips I couldn't really afford but couldn't really afford not to take either!
But we are slowly getting our little safety net back up again as I've been so determined to keep all expenses down past our direct debits to a bare minimum.
Also, so excited to see Annie's 'Monty' starting to post. How cute was that!0 -

That'll teach me to be using my grandmother's old tape measure, all in old money!0 -
I'm gutted that I own my own home. It's paid for because my lovely husband died at the age of 50, leaving me and our small son alone. I'd give it away and live in the garden shed if I could have him back. Incidentally, even though our house is paid for, I still have a lot of years left to provide for the small boy, which is why I'm on this thread trying to be careful with the money that comes in each month.
Then there's my dad....he gave up his 3 bedroomed council maisonette the day that my sister moved out (the council paid him a small sum to cover his moving expenses). He couldn't sfford the rent on his own anyway, but it was his way of ensuring my sister and I could never move back home. He even made my sister take the family dog
:rotfl:
Oh, and on a lighter note, does anyone want to borrow an early rising 5 year old? He was up at 4:30am this morning. Black out blinds are not an option, as he only gets up early in the winter when it's pitch dark outside. He sleeps until about 6:30 in the summer. I've just changed his bedding and put his winter quilt on in the hopes that if he's nice and snuggly he may stay in his bed a bit longer. Bungee hooks may be the next option (only joking, honest!).0 -

my kids sleep loads worse in the winter too - I reckon its because in the summer they are out all day buring up energy but not so much in the winter - not sure what the solution is but bungee hooks could work ;0People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Thank you Cranky, for giving some perspective to this issue. 'Home' is where the people you love are. At the end of the day, that is what is important. Whatever the future holds for us all and wherever we end up living (whether homeowners, private or council renters) we must all try our hardest to remember and value that point above all others. It is too easy to get bogged down in the 'bricks and mortar'
I'm sorry for your loss

Well i know what it feels like to give up your home. I had to sell my 3 bedroomed home and buy a 2 bedroomed flat simply because i couldnt afford to run it. Irony of it is, although the bills are a lot cheaper my mortgage and service charges are more than my original mortgage on the 3 bed (mortgage cheaper but add in the service charges and its slightly more) Also the fact that my mortgage wont be finished until in 64 and the service charges will go on till i die (if i stay here). I just cant afford the jump to buy a 2bed house which is what i originally wanted, because although i had a huge deposit my earnings are very low and couldnt get an extra £10k to buy a 2 bed house.0

Well said, Jayne. As for George, I won't tell about the hooks if you don'tIt's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

To give up the home that you love (for whatever reason) must be heart breaking. As far as I understand it, future new tenants will not have the security of homes for life but the tenants already in situ will be able to stay if that's what they want.
I hope no-one is forced out of their home." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Afternoon guys.
Got sudden wartime-survivor /positive spirit that whatever the outcome of csr if we lose some we will manage will always adapt have done last few years will adapt again and survive.
Me and hubbys aim is to be debt free and have enough income to get by.
if we can pay our bills, ensure kids have everything they need, a car thats not falling apart, some disposable income be nice-I wish and each other then we will be happy.
Then wont have to worry about bank or government pulling rug from under us.
We will rely on ourselves and take responsability for our actions.
As for housing , buyings a dream right now, social virtually impossible but we live in nice house in nice area with not too extorionate rent so count our blessings .
A home is roof over head regardles if you rent or own.
Lets not let csr get us down im sure us oldstylers can survive anything thats thrown at us we resourceful lot and I enjoy out nattering and very useful advice/support offered on this thread we an online commune of like minded people!
Theres that annoying expression dont hate the player hate the game.
