If you have a Wilkinsons close to you they sell good value quilts another aternative is Argos, I bought one of their value quilts for our gest room which is better than our more expensive quilt, its light but very warm. My recent house guest asked where I got it from said it was warm, but not too heavy....

Hopefully by the time they sort it all out they'll be voted out anyway !
And then we have a whole new lot of muppets dreaming up a whole new lot of nonsense...round & round the mulberry bush eh ? And always its us who get the worry.
That's the problem, it's just history repeating itself.

Labour are in power, they throw money away, the country ends up on it's knees with massive debts, they get voted out. Conservatives get into power, have to make big cuts to improve the economy, they drag the country back out of the gutter but get voted out because people are angry at the cuts. Labour get into power, inherit a healthy economy, throw money away, the country is on it's knees ........... and repeat.

It's happened before, it's happening now and it'll happen again. :(

Thanks anguk...i hope my son gets that..every wk he needs to buy a new bit of kit for his toolbox...we have already had to find extra £40 for 2 books he needs...£14 for 2 shirts and now we have been told he has to have this body warmer for the course:(..of course if he needs them i'll make sure he gets them but they could have explained all this before he started the course...thank you anguk...:A
I know what you mean. My DD has been told there are 2 trips next year that would be "beneficial" for her to go on, one to Morocco for a week at a cost of nearly £1500, the other to Thailand for a month at a cost of over £3500!!!!

Now it's all very well her tutors telling her that it'll look good on her university applications but there's no way I can afford money like that!

Thanks for the duvet suggestions - will have a look when I shop later,

Off to meeting with ed psych (re DS12) - am dreading it, we asked her to be brought in to get some sort of diagnosis (thinking possible autism) and therefore extra help at school, instead we got a meeting where she told us he was unhappy at home because we wouldnt let him watch stuff (age 18 movies etc)!! And that we should allow him to cos his peers were? How does that help??

Aren't films graded to age groups because over 18 films can have a bad effect on young children? Wasn't there a lot in the Jamie Bulger case about the films that the killers were allowed to watch & the psychological damage that could have caused, amongst lots of other factors I know.
Maybe the psychologist should be talking to the other parents advising against allowing their children to watch unsuitable things.
Maybe you should give him more pocket money so he can afford booze & fags as no doubt some of his peers do that as well.
    What a load of cobblers.
I do hope that you get some sensible answers.

The LA I worked in gave higher banding to people who wanted to downsize their properties once their families had left home.
Unfortunately there was very little 1 bed general purpose accommodation, unless people had a support need they couldn't go into warden accommodation, as they were needed for people who needed warden controlled.
Mutual exchanges seemed to be the best way for people to up-downsize.
Maybe councils should be allowed to buy empty properties & bring them into their housing stock, if done as a social enterprise, jobless & or homeless people could not only be getting a home but learning valuable skills.
In my city the council CP a row of beautiful huge Victorian houses, after about 20 years of them sitting & rotting the site was sold to a devoloper who built a couple of dozen houses, but if the originals had been done up they could have housed dozens & dozens of people. I think that there were probably about 30 x 4 story houses. They all had big gardens, so they could have grown most of their own fruit & veg.
Better go before I start ranting.

I heard an ionterview on the radio yesterday with a woman who had lived in a sort of commune for a while, and said it was wonderful... it was populated by people who needed a break from the real world, psychologists who were burnt out, people recovering from nervous breakdowns etc. She said they grew all their fruit and veg and had jobs to do, painting, building furniture etc. Sometimes I think that escaping to a place like that would be wonderful. As long as I could have my own room to escape to when I wanted to be on my own!!
I agree with those who recommend Asda for cheap duvets, I bought a couple to put under the bottom sheets in the winter, as well as some for normal use, and I couldn't be happier with them.

    Hi all,

My first Big Brands order just arrived - very exciting, first time I've seen enough of the sort of things we eat to be worth ordering was tempted in by 12.5 kg of suet for £3.50 that should keep us in stodge for the winter - yay, dumplings, sausage and potato pie with suet pastry and old fashioned pudding. Must stop I'm making myself hungry!

Unfortunately when I went to put it away I discovered there was a leak coming from the bottom of our boiler so now waiting for the LA's plumber to call me back - at least it didn't leak on my lovely suet! We're lucky as we seem to have a pretty good LA, anything that needs doing gets done fairly quickly. So fingers crossed.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Just been outside brrrr its bitter out there.

Just found a huge spider in the cupboard, so i just freaked and ran in here.:o

Cheap duvets : - primark - ours gets ridiculously hot in the summer but fantastic in the winter. Quite comfy and airy too at the same time.

Annieg one of my friends lives in a kind of commune village, and in a lot of ways its great but in others its very exclusive. He moved in a few months ago, but his brother has lived they for years. Now for newcomers they are vetted for about 6 months and then if the villagers suddenly decide they don't like them. They are asked to leave immediately. sometimes even before the allotted period.

But still it doesn't stop me dreaming about moving into a place like that.

of course your not failing!!! We all have bad days. The past two weekends, i got sick of life, lack of money etc and i though s*d it, ended up spending a fortune on the kids and food. I also spent money on my credit card for food, stupidly i might add. But now i'm back on it, well trying anyway. We never fail we just slow down or speed up.

I also like to think, that if come here and rant about money, life etc i'm with like minded people and to be honest it has really helped me out. So keep posting and we'll be here to cheer, cry and shout along with you!

I also dropped out of the frugal living challenge everything crept up on me so i thought right well at least i had a go. Better than nothing.

I like that! slowing down rather than failing :D It's true, being with like minded people helps so much. It's such a shame that it's so hard to talk openly about money to people in real life. Thank goodness for MSE!

NualaBuala talked me into getting back on the challenge thread yesterday, and I was received with open arms. Frugaldom even took time out to write me a long reply, which I was very touched by. I also read some of the older posts, and MOST people do fall off the wagon! You should nip back and see how you get on :)
