I'm 51 and we have two adult children in the house at the moment, by the time they leave home I will probably be nearing 60 maybe more, so what is being suggested is that, when my OH and I are in our 60's, we will be turfed out of our home because we no longer need a three bedroomed house.......and all of you who are applauding this decision, think this is fair, do you?
It wouldn't surprise me to learn that those who do approve of turfing people out of the home they've lived in for years are in fact home owners and are in no danger of having such an awful thing happen to themselves.
Somehow those very people do not understand that your house - whatever it is - bought, rented, whatever - is your home. I am sure that if the same were suggested to them they would be astonished. If you turn the thing around then why should house owners live in 3-5 bedroomed dwellings when they could get somewhere smaller and release their bigger house onto the market for larger families. Just as ridiculous! Unfortunately there are some who feel superior because they own (rent through mortgage) their own house.

Just found a huge spider in the cupboard, so i just freaked and ran in here.:o
Cheap duvets : - primark - ours gets ridiculously hot in the summer but fantastic in the winter. Quite comfy and airy too at the same time.
Annieg one of my friends lives in a kind of commune village, and in a lot of ways its great but in others its very exclusive. He moved in a few months ago, but his brother has lived they for years. Now for newcomers they are vetted for about 6 months and then if the villagers suddenly decide they don't like them. They are asked to leave immediately. sometimes even before the allotted period.
But still it doesn't stop me dreaming about moving into a place like that.

That sounds fab! I would be really worried that I loved it though, and all the villagers disliked me and kicked me out!:(In the middle of difficulty lies oppurtunity0 -

Hmm interesting way of looking at it
And that is all I am saying as I've already had friends come to blows (not quite physically but almost) over the CSR and I don;t want to add fuel to the fire on here!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Littleowl can we please not make personel judgements/comments, I disagreed but was polite & gave reasons, I didn't just make a sweeping statement. It doesn't help anyone.0 -
Fwiw, I think some of us are just emotional at the minute and our home is one of the things we can get most emotional about as means so much. I don't think any comments are personal attacks just that when something hits home we can sometimes feel hurt and a little defensive. I don't think anyone has an argument with any person here, it's just a very personal topic.
In terms of things being tough -
We're still a little while away from finding out about the restructure so that buys us a little time, which is good. The past few weeks have been really good for gaining perspective, to the extent that we've even managed to get rid of most of the things on the "needs" list because when push comes to shove most things were still "wants".
Can never decide whether a nice cuppa is really a need or a want though... I kno what I choose to believe and will therefore indulge. Anyone else fancy a cuppa?0 -

I have not seen your post but was responding to the one I contributed to. Neither was I making a personal comment. I believe that I was observing that the kind of views that had upset the poster were rather one-sided and could be turned around to represent an opposite viewpoint.
I have no wish to upset you or anyone. I think - perhaps I express myself badly - that I was making a plea for an open-minded approach to problems, not one-sided ones.0 -

Fair enough, but to say that some feel they are 'superior' to others as they own their own home is maybe not the best way to express yourself?
