I was sceptical about the ordering part but I thought it would be fun listing what I would like to have in my life if it was perfect. From there I started doing things that would move me towards it. I wanted to be a size 12 and realised that that was in my own capabilities. So I suppose the visualising and ordering are helpful in defining what you want and what is important to you which helps you move towards it.

I've just read The Secret and loved it but not because The Universe is going to send me a big cheque and a shiny new car.

It just made me feel and think in a much more positive way. I now consciously appreciate and am grateful for the people and things around me instead of taking them for granted.
Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches

it's because you're focused on it, putting energy into it, talking to people about it, and you find other solutions than the one you'd thought of.

I think with this, like with many other things, you have to take the things that are useful to you, and leave the rest. So if you find it useful to think positively, put effort into things, talk to people, make things happen.

But also remember that sometimes things happen, sometimes they don't, and sometimes whether they do or don't depends on something you've done, and sometimes it doesn't.

Having said that, I think individually people should use whatever methods (the secret, prayer etc) help them - and you should do what helps you.

Now have a cup of tea and be kind to yourself xx
Showered, dressed, coffee being drunk :)

    Thank you all.

Maybe writing it down made me think. Realised I was kicking The Secret instead of kicking myself :rotfl:

Realised that I had dropped off the 50 Day Challenge before I had really started.:o

Then realised what was really behind my mood and went back to my 'support book'
    KNOW YOUR ENEMY
If you’ve ever had any of the following thoughts, feelings, or experiences in the course of trying to do or get what you want, you have met fear.

An overwhelming desire to sleep: you’re suddenly so tired
An overwhelming desire to eat: you’re suddenly famished
An overwhelming attraction to the paperback rack: you must read Love’s Tender Fury or the latest Travis McGee mystery now
The soothing thought, “I’ve got plenty of time. It can wait till tomorrow.”
A suddenly blank mind: you were fermenting with plans and ideas, now you’re the Village Idiot
A sudden ferment of plans and ideas about eighteen other dreams you’d rather have first, before this one (“Gee, I’ve never been to Europe . . . I can always start my business when I get back.”)
A sudden loss of interest in your goal: it fascinated you in theory, but in reality it’s boring, not for you at all (NOTE: Hidden fear will try to trick you into changing your goal whenever it starts getting challenging. That’s why so many of us have picked up and dropped so many activities—not because we’re “dilettantes” who can’t make up our minds.)
A sudden conviction that you don’t have what it takes for this goal (“Whatever made me think I was aggressive enough for a job in sales? I’m really a very shy, retiring person.”)
    (Wishcraft - Barbara Sher)

Off to read some more and give myself a shake. Oh and have a look at Firewalker's thread.

Crafty Scholar, thanks for posting this - absolutely you did the right thing, and I don't think many people simply believe absolutely - we're too intelligent for that, quite frankly. There are lots of posts on here of the type of "well, I'll give it a go" - and it works. There are also lots of posts about "I got it, but then look what happened" - MG's troubles with the school are one indication of that, even. And to take MG again, look at the *work* she's putting into her business, as well as the help she's getting - in one way, like Cheery and others have said, attracting what you want from the universe is about defining what you want and putting energy into it.

Self talk is an issue in itself tho - I can feel it in relation to this chronic illness I've got going on - when I consciously think about good things, about me doing something, even something ever so little, thats positive, I feel better, and I can get out of bed, make a cup of tea, whatever it is. When I think negatively ( = I'm going to deteriorate, I'll lose the house, etc) I ache, and two sets of glands just **hurt**, constantly. So on that level, using the Law of Attraction definitely works for me. But I'm also putting effort in - I'm researching pro and anti foods for arthritis sufferers, for instance, and there's a lot of faff and fiddle out there that needs really careful research.

The other level is the opening out of possibilities - sort of "oh, I don't have to have my nose to the grindstone for the rest of my life - you mean, I'm supposed to enjoy myself?" Thats what some of it has been for me, anyway, and I can see it in some other people's posts too.

The bit you mention - if it didn't happen, you didn't do it right - people take issue with Karma on that too. And with what I've studied about that, its not true:
    (1) - there's a lesson we haven't learned yet - e.g. the reason we get into repetitive situations, we're trying to put it right but doing the same old thing that sent something wrong. Thats *not* the same as saying its all our fault! Its sort of saying "what else is going on?"
    (2) - in karmic law as I've understood it, sometimes we willingly take on karma belonging to our group of souls who are reborn together, or an area or country that we often belong to on each rebirth - not a personal thing, but a much bigger thing. As a psychotherapist (tho I don't work in a Buddhist or Law of Attraction way) I've had several people bringing this to me, and wanting me to help them work through it.

I wish I'd "quoted" your post now, but I'm sure there are other responses too by now. Hope this helps.

Ah craftyscholar, have a hug (((((((((())))))))))

We're not all complete believers here :) I'll confess I've never read the secret, and have no intention of doing so :) I have a similar problem with the flip side of it that you have. And I also generally think that the reason things sometimes happen if/when you believe, isn't because the universe is helping, it's because you're focused on it, putting energy into it, talking to people about it, and you find other solutions than the one you'd thought of.

But having said that, that applies to things like business ventures etc, but not to things like treating illnesses (although I realise there is research about positive thinking etc - but that I think applies to the person themselves, not their relatives). You must *not* think AT ALL that you weren't good enough to help your dad. I'm absolutely sure you did ALL you could, and what happened was NOTHING to do with you, or your mum.

Sorry, that's probably not very coherent, but I just wanted to let you know that you're not the only one! :) And you will NOT be kicked out of the thread at all! This is about support and courage, NOT one specific book, even if it helps a lot of people with their thinking.

Having said that, I think individually people should use whatever methods (the secret, prayer etc) help them - and you should do what helps you.

Now have a cup of tea and be kind to yourself xx

    Well said Cheery :T

It is a bit like religion, I don't care what you believe in (could even be the man in the moon) but if it helps you through in times of need it has to be a good thing.

I do sometimes think that trials and tribulations are put in front of us to test us and see if we can find a way round or through it. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger sort of thing.....

I am thinking this is all a bit too deep for a bright, sunny Sunday morning though so I had better shut up now :rotfl:

OK I have been sitting here trying to decide whether or not to post this.
I know you all believe totally in The Secret and if you kick me out of the thread so be it, but I really struggle with the concept of 'if you do this and this everything will come right for you' 'as long as you believe it will happen'

Why do I have a problem? Because when 'it' doesn't happen the other half of the theory kicks in - 'it's your fault' 'you didn't believe enough'

I've just been looking at the web-site. Truly inspirational stories, but would they print the one from the other 'Secret believer' who was up for the same job and didn't get it, didn't find the medical treatment their relative needed.

I guess I stopped believing in miracles 45 years ago when my wonderful father died aged 61 instead of having the happy retirement he so deserved. OK maybe my prayers (or me) wern't good enough to help him but mum's should have been.

Sorry, I seem to be on a downer this morning for absolutely no reason.

Hi Crafty, another one here who hasn't read the Secret. I imagine that amongst us people beleive in all sorts of things and possibilities. I think that this thread and other things going on in life have maybe made people more reflective and focussed on what they want and what gets in the way of them getting what they need. That to me can only be a good thing [tho it doesn't always mean you get it;)]. Its all too easy to have one's nose to the grindstone and never look up and about to see the sky and the flowers so we miss the bigger picture. Goodness am mixing my metaphors big time. Anyway glad you were able to say whats on your mind and move on with your next post too. No question of you being chucked off and I certainly wouldn't want to be part of anything that was so blinkered. Have a good day and week Teapot x

Yes, it will be fine. I would cook it tomorrow though or freeze it today (or cook it today & freeze it :D)

And that is great, we should each take what we need out of things we read or situations we find ourselves dealing with, it's what I tried to say in an earlier post :T

And I am glad you raised this point because I have a slight problem with the Secret as well - it is in the ordering part (one orders from the menu of the Universe). I have come to believe in the two main facets ot it though - that the Universe is mentality and that the law of attraction does work. I do find something else (metaphysics again) more convincing (the Meta Secret; for more check my thread - detailed presentation there, sometime in August).

Well that's the rest of the morning taken care of :rotfl:(I'm only on page 7)
