What is cider vinegar? I have plenty of cider and plain brown (malt?) vinegar, should I mix these together or something?
I think you can just use the cider from what was said earlier. With the 2 drops of washing up liquid of course.
Hubby did the shopping and got cider vinegar but I think the recipe did say white wine vinegar. I didn't have the heart to tell him he got the wrong thing.:D0 -
Go on tell me. I guess you do the same as me and go on a killing spree with a rolled up newspaper.
It makes such a mess though.
Nothing one of those eraser pad thingies from Poundland can't fix! And leaves your paintwork/wallpaper alone...
Trouble is, with dogs in the house, if I start whacking rolls of newspaper all over the place they think they are in trouble0 -
Same here with the cats, makes them run and hide. Poor things.:(0

does anyone have any tips on dealing with flies?
In my village there seems to be an infestation, everyone is complaining about them. My house is pretty clean anyway, but I am spending today making it extra clean so as not to attract them.
I hate flyspray, and have a baby in the house so I wouldn't want to use such strong chemicals anyway.
Does anyone know of any effective natural alternatives? Are there any essential oils which would kill them, or at least repel them?
They are really getting me down - I awoke the other morning to the delightful experience of one of them landing on my lip, it nearly made me sick!0 -
Hi Thriftylady,
We have an older thread that should help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

Check out the latest addition to my "arsenal" of weaponry against the flies, a fork-leaved sundew:
It's even more efficient than the flytrap. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
