Snap! We seem to get a lot of the big flies around lately and they are dying by the time they come in the house (so at least pretty easy to kill). Will be interested to hear if other people have any ideas why.

We have a similar problem. For some reason flies seem to breed in the top bedroom window corner, near the hinge. You wouldn't think there was enough space, and we've bleached etc the wood loads of times. We keep ending up with them stuck between the window and the interior glazing (luckily removable). Not sure why they do it, but we have to remember they do or we get a headfull of flies when we open the window.

We are getting a lot of flies too. I put it down to them coming in off a white, south facing door, and they are pretty dopey.

We have two sticky strips up and two plug in zappers, with no result. On Sunday DH emptied a can of fly spray into the room and the little £$%&! were still flying around!

Any suggestions how to deal gratefully received
    Always another chapter

  • At least I'm not alone - they're horrid aren't they Yuck!!!

They're probably fruit flies. I've got some too. I've also tracked down a nectarine in the fruit bowl that's *on the turn*. That may be why they're here.

They're known more as a nuisance, than a health hazard, so I try and ignore them and hope they'll go away ;):D

I get a similar problem, we get the ordinary black houseflies (not bluebottles or midges). There seems to be a plague of them once a year, but they do seem to disappear after a few days.

The best thing I found was a Vapona window sticker which are available from Boots. You just stick it to the kitchen window, and then once a day hoover up the piles of dead flies. Disgusting, but effective.

I couldn't figure out how to do a link so I bumped my old thread on the subject. Hopefully the mods will come along and merge the threads for us :)
  • thanks they are horrid - got some fly spray with natural ingrediants yesterday which smells quite ok but the just seem to be dying anyway before I have sprayed them. there were loads on the kitchen window sill this morning strange that they don't seem to go anywhere else. Hope they go soon
  • Nasty horrid things why did God invent them I really don't know!!

Do they come up my plug hole as I shut all windows last night but they were still dying on my window sill this morning. I have cleaned everywhere and there in no dead mouse the cat has brought in or no fusty fruit or sweet lying around. EERRGGHHHH
