I find that swatting's the best way to deal with them once they're in. (Although if you have lots and lots the hoover would be quicker). If you swat them when they're on the window then the light dazzles them and they can't see you coming. You need to clean the window afterwards, though...

If the little b***s aren't on the window then try this:

It's very effective, cheap and strangely satisfying. I got mine from Gadget Shop. At one stage my kids started having competitions! Sometimes you can get several with one shot.

To keep the population down though, nothing beats mesh screens at doors and windows. Net curtains on the windows are quite a good alternative.

Ooooh-thought we were a bit strange by being such avid fly-haters! For once my family can be classed as 'normal':j lol!

We get in practise for Wimbledon with an electrified tennis bat affair that you swipe around like a wII stick. It can be frustrating when the little blighters get away, but the sizzle & light show as another fly fries more than compensates.SIZE=1]no-we don't get out much![/SIZE The first one we had came from a garden centre & worked really well until no2 son thought he was Boris Becker & used a back-hand at record speed:rotfl:

The one we have now came from one of those BetterWhere/ KleenEasier books-it is much sturdier & comes with batteries, a cover & little brush to remove all traces of fly-omocide! It also has a safety device so small children cannot zap themselves on it.

Another great purchase from the same place/s this year, is a pair of door curtains made of a very fine mesh. They are fitted to the frame with velcro tape you cut to size & lightly weighted along the bottom. One curtain fits our double-glazed back door if that helps judge. I think you can get them for windows too, & TBH you forget they are there because they are so fine, & our 15week old pup happily goes back & forth to the garden.

The quantity of little bustuds that actually get inside now is greatly reduced, for a one-off outlay of about £20 for both bat & curtains. Very green; very hypo-allergenic; very pet friendly...unless you're a bluebottle:cool:

roll a newspaper/magazine up and have fun batting!!

They can be hearded out sometimes. Open a window shoo them towards it.

I did see on telly once a spanish person hang a clear bag of water up (like you'd get a goldfish in from the fishshop) to keep the flies away. Apparently the flies see their reflection magnified and think it's a giant fly and clear off. Might be worth a go? I didn't make that up. honest.

I've got some carnivious plants indoors, but not enough. It is pleasing when they catch something. I'm going to try loads outdoors as well in a bog garden by the pond. Not that it'll make much differecnce, but they are cool.

The smaller sticky type really are good at catching those tiny flies that like indoor plants. They get loads.

 ...wonder if the plakkie bag thing would work on the two legged variety of annoying little turd hoppers? Those that always knock the door just as you are trying to serve up a meal  or up to your elbows in mulch!

Heeeeyyyyy-brain wave!!!:T !!! Put a pic of our glorious leader behind the bag, so the salespersons know we worship at the alter of MSE :A , & our magnificent magnified leader is bigger than theirs :money: so nar.nar.ne-nar-nah ya boo sucks!

It sounds funny - but I lived in the mountains in southern spain for a while and a lot of people really did this - might be worth a try.
