    How clean are your neighbours?!?!

We found out that next door had pidgeons in their loft and the flies were TERRIBLE as the pidgeons poo on the loft floor and the flies lay their eggs. Apparently if it gets really bad, then maggots can come wriggling down through the ceiling! EEK! Even the thought of this made me feel so ill that I called the Council's pest control and they tracked down the landlord owner and inspected it.

All cleared up now though thankfully and we never saw a single maggot!

A combination of a very hot day having all the doors and windows open and Making jam, seemed to encourage flies into the house:eek: I hate flies, how can I discourage them, I hate using sprays. Today, I am going to disinfect my whole kitchen in case they have landed anywhere yuk!

    Hi maypole,

We have a recent thread that should help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

  • Mother bought some sticky pads which had a picture of a flower on them which i presume work in the same way as fly paper does.

    Never caught a single fly.

She then says " i'ts cruel anyway making them stand still until they die "

Next day she comes home with some fly spray.

Imagine the effect that has on them lol.

We have the same problem and here is my summary of products:
    • those sticky strips that hang down-blooming useless caught 2
    • those sunflower stickers - great but look awfulafter a while (suppose you should change often)
    • the vapour thing that last 2 months approx- can't see that it has done anything-useless
    • the fly spray- fantastic job but hate using it, especially in the kitchen
Next to try is the cider vinegar and water with plastic over which has holes in. Any other ideas welcomed,

    Hello Pink

Thank you for that, just been reading all the posts, glad it's not just me then:rotfl:
  • I can't face looking at corpses on the sticky tape version, so we have the poisonous flower stickers. Alternatively, if you want to be a bit greener, I find the best thing is either a couple of lavender plants or lavender bags (or candles) or a water spray bottle with a mixture of water and tea tree or lemon oil. Keep spraying the air and the scent not only puts them off but acts like an air freshener

Does anyone know how to eliminate flies. We have an old drafty house that has umpteen gaps in the floorboards, skirting boards etc. I think that something has died in one of the unreachable areas (although there is no smell). I am being plagued by flies and the shops don't sell fly spray as this is a seasonal product (according to Tesco).

Anyone got any advice as these blooming things are doing my head in? I swear that as soon as I kill one fly it's replaced by another. The best of it is we usually have at least 2 big spiders lurking around but not one to be found at the moment.
