Debt free in ten years-my new, more realistic challenge.

  • It's a lovely thing to have some possessions of your loved ones around you after they've gone. A wine rack, that you would probably not buy for yourselves, can be enjoyed guilt-free. I have several items of furniture from my parents' house, and would not exchange them for the fanciest alternatives. They surround me with my parents' love. That is priceless.

Thank you elizabeth. I have no furniture from my parents as my step mother got rid of everything so having something that reminds me of my aunt is a good idea.
She left her chattels to me so I have every right to them but I know I am a guardian of her belongings for me to share with all my cousins. My problem was that if I take things from the house others might like them and won't have a full choice.

I should stop feeling guilty :)

Yesterday I spent £1 at knit and natter.
Made a frugal butternut squash risotto for dinner :)

London tomorrow so I am sure a lot more will be spent than yesterday.

Santander won't accept my offer of payment so Mr P says we should continue paying a minimal amount, possibly for ever :D I won't be able to do it. Guilt again.

TSB accepted my offer so I will pay them when I receive it in writing.

Yesterday I chose a paint colour for my hall wall from my farrow and Ball paint charts, sent Mr P to builder's merchant who have made up 10 litres of it. It is on account so payment can be made next month.

Out of the 50 colours I had choice of I chose 'wall white' without seeing the name in advance :D

My breakfast room is breakfast room green too :D Another coincidence.

I am very excited but will probably stand out like a country bumpkin. I used to meet my best friend in Covent Garden every Saturday before we were married. Sadly she passed away last year. I keep planning things in my head for us to do....... then remembering :(

It really wasn't a good year last year. This year is going to be MUCH better.

We have been invited to a fancy weekend in a castle later this month too so lots to look forward to. :)

    London was great :D

I want to go back again soon.

As I have a free bus pass I travelled around by bus with my bus map I downloaded from the internet.

It was like having a free mini tour :D Very MSE

The V and A exhibition of 80's fashion was great and I spent a long time in there. I also had a wander around the history of costume exhibition. It reminded me of when I took my A level Textiles girls there many moons ago.

We ate at the station which wasn't the best choice. I wanted to go for afternoon tea but DS1 wasn't interested at all.

We had a look in John Lewis, M and S, etc but I didn't find anything I liked for DS1's wedding within my budget.

It has given me some ideas though.

Then we splashed out on a taxi trip from Oxford circus to Euston (£8) as it was rush hour and I couldn't stand the crowds trying to get on buses and go down steps to the underground.

Only down side is that I now have a stinking cold :(

Yesterday I spent £225 on wood pellets for our new boiler which (finger's crossed) should be started tomorrow.

DD is cleaning the cottage which is still doing really well for bookings.

DS3, Mr P and I are sorting out the rooms so the plumbers can get to pipework, radiators etc. We have so much stuff in this house.

I have also ordered wooden flooring for the hall. We have had the old cork tiles down from previous occupants for 19 years. It is time we had new flooring. The cost was just short of £1000 with the underlay (Thanks to Dad :D) It was half price

And my £199 overlocker has arrived. Once rooms are sorted I am going to set it up. :D

I can't quite believe how our house is being transformed. DS3 is busy painting the hall wall. The colour is darker and greener than I wanted but hey ho it will have to do. We can't buy more paint so it will have to do. It might look better when we have new lighting installed.

About three years ago I was given a black wrought iron ceiling light fitting. Our electrician looked at it and said it has doorbell wiring not electric so we are going to have it rewired and I may spray paint it. The with six candle bulbs it should look good.

It will need a chain to secure it to the beam as it is extremely heavy. Then we have two old plastic spotlights which used to light the bar (This used to be a restaurant and guest house). The bar and optics are long gone.

I will watch out for spotlights on freegle to replace ours as they won't take low energy bulbs.

Glad you had a good time in London. Pity about the afternoon tea.

Plans for the house sound great.

So pleased you bought the overlocker, what is your 1st project going to be?

Hope the cold goes away quickly

  • House sounds like it is coming along nicely :) and your day in London sounded great! I hate going into London but that's usually because I have 3 kids with me at least and trying to keep hold of them all in one place is an utter nightmare, perhaps I should try a day trip out by myself instead ;)

dfw I remember my mum taking me and my brothers and my brother's little friend. Little friend wandered off near Victoria station but somehow, in the days before mobile phones etc. we found him again.

I can't imagine how you could possibly manage with three children. Maybe a day out without the children could be arranged?

    Yesterday was a NSD :)
Today we should have the plumbers arriving to install the boiler and put in two new radiators. By the end of the week we will have central heating :D
