Alternative way to keep warm..................:)
Log burner on last night cos even the cats were complaining! Will put it on again today but I am burning old statements/bills/documents and such like. Central heating wont be going on - only a pair of socks as feet are beginning to feel it!
How do the cats complain? Picketing with signs?0 -

What's your annual bill like then? I hear it's smarter to keep the thing running all the time like you do but I can't believe it. I understand the logic behind it but it sounds like witchcraft to me.
I prefer to have it off until I can't bear it any longer. I ought to rephrase that, actually. :rotfl:
I find it cheaper to leave it on low from 6am to 1am. I did a comparison of usage over two years. My bill is £145 a month duel fuel with maintainance contract and annual boiler service.
I have gas central heating and cooking, tumble dryer used most days in the winter. 4 adults big high ceiling, double glazed single walled Victorian terrace.
I found it cheaper to leave it on low rather than off and on short bursts, but that may not be economical for everyone, such as those out at work all day.
It is difficult to have one size fits all, some have electric heating, cook on electric and so this changes the bill considerably.
Insulation, room size, window size and heat/cold tolerance of the occupants all change the equation.
I was however staggered to find we have the lowest fuels bills in Europe. Germany is 2500 euros a year!!0 -

Maybe I need to bite the bullet. I work from home so I suppose I could switch it off when I'm out for a few hours. Also, I could plan it for when I'm about to train as I hate training in warm environments. Hrmph. Thing is, I'm happy to sit with woollies on in the cold most of the time.0

I gave in and put in on for an hour yesterday because I'd been out in the cold, rain and wind for ages, and was frozen to the core when I got home. Turned it off when I had the fleece, big sweater, and hot water bottle sorted out. Today is lovely and mild so won't be needing it again for a while yet.
The new feather and down duvet has make a massive difference to warmth in bed, although it and the previous man-made one are the same tog rating the natural one is much cosier.0 -
Mine is off today.
Yesterday was on because everyone got so wet and chilly.
It is 21 c in here. I wear lots of layers, thermals in cold months, i dont think it is very cold yet, try to keep it off as much as possible. i am on fixed until 2014 with EDF, they just reduced my monthly DD because my usage was under their estimate so that was a nice surprise!
My other tip is in the bathroom have a really big towel ladder instead of radiator which is great for warming towels, clothes, pyjamas, blankets, when you have the heating on, i dont have an airing cupboard anymore so this is my solution!~~~~~~~~Thinking outside the box~~~~~~~~~~~
