Is your heating ON or OFF?

No heating on here, cold but I just spend my time under a duvet on the sofa
I'm under a duvet but as I am not watching the tv and listening to the radio, it's easier to go to bed...
Not damp at present but like Byatt I think there was some dampness the other night, I'm not used to having to avoid putting CH on or equally having to because the house can become damp...its all new to me and I suspect it will always be so from now on wherever I am."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. It’s probably just because I’m used to the temperature but it’s not actually that cold here at the moment despite it being 11 degrees apparently.
I do have to say though, last night I had the electric blanket on and was watching jaws and got so drowsy I ended up falling asleep. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -

I hope that you soon feel better, you need a hugso many friends on here but sadly so far away...Often friends on here are more understanding than what would be called "Real Life!"
Heating still not on...I probably have enough clothes to last the rest of my life(virtually all CS stuff)but I am now thinking if I have a few more items I can change them more often...build up a decent washload over 2-3 weeks rather than using the washer more often. So I got two tank tops and a jumper for £3 earlier today.
The average temp still seems to be 16c(60.8f)at the lowest and 20c(68f)at best.
I was lovely and warm in bed this morning so stayed put, sorry if that annoys some if working but I am not a scrounger, I do have health problems and often have difficulty getting comfortable in bed and able to sleep so do so when I am able...I work around my condition...
Thanks Popperwell, the hugs are really appreciated.
I still have this fever, so i am still leaving the heating off. I'll be in bed before long anyway.
i dont even have my HWB or fleece tonight, as i just am swealtering.0 -
We should have the heating on for a hour in the morning and a hour in the evening. But hubby has been blasting it on much longer than we agreed. I keep having to turn it off.0

We do have the heating on when its needed but try first to make sure we are wrapped up. I certainly wouldnt sit in gloves and coat before doing so but long gone of the days of sitting around in shorts and t shirts mid winter with the heating pumping out tropical warmth!
We try to keep a balance whilst keeping an eye on the budget too, but also bear in mind our health and also potential damage to the house by keeping it too cold
I agree here.....whilst I do not have money to throw away I believe there needs to be a balance between saving pennies but being comfortable too. I gave in last night to the heating but at the moment an hour in the evening is taking the chill off.
I really don't want to sit watching tv wrapped up as if I'm living in an igloo, it's damned miserable and not good for your health or well-being, not to mention that cold damp houses are not good.0 -

Well neither do I, and I totally agree, but I don't have a great deal of choice now. It really is a choice between food and warmth right now, although I have to warm the house to keep it in shape rather than my benefit.
edit, sorry, didn't mean for that to sound so pathetic, I'm not letting it get me down just saying the facts of the situation. I'm making my home cosy and making the best of living in a very old cottage. It was a huge adjustment as always lived in homes not much older than me and usually younger!:rotfl: (well, during my married life that is, as a child lived all over).0 -
Many of us are trying to keep from being miserable but too many have little to look forward and sadly though we keep hearing how well those who are classed as pensioners or retired who did work and try to save for their twilight years are not doing very well and not doing as portrayed in the media or by our politions.
Oh they are brilliant at scrimping and saving on many things but the main cost is on things they have little or no control such as the utility bills and rent/council tax.
And it looks like more drastic measures are coming. And it's a different matter if it is through choice but many are having to go back out and work to try and get by even if their health is poor or they come home fatiqued."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Well, we had the heating on for the first time tonight.
It was just too cold. We have a vent in the wall and it's got to that time of year when we start to feel the draft from it.
Even with the heating on we still have to put rugs over our legs.

The thing is that I'm not using any extra layers such as fleeces or pyjamas and bedsocks. I have a blanket sometimes over my knees but that's all. I'm not even wearing a heavy jacket when out yet. Must be hardy here.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Well, our kitchen used to be lovely and warm but the so called regulations over the years there are so many grills and the last time they called we had to have a vent fitted. It is so cold in there I get in, cook the meal quick and get out and keep the door that connects it to the rest of the house closed. It's like an ice box.
Luckily no other room is affected...except...now that I cannot really afford the CH the rest of the house is chilly or really cold when the weather turns as I expect will happen soon.Torry_Quine wrote: »The thing is that I'm not using any extra layers such as fleeces or pyjamas and bedsocks. The last few days have been milder and when I was out on Saturday night in Durham City going by what the girls did not have on, they did not seem to be feeling the cold.
Yet five days earlier in Darlington even I had to wear gloves and a scarf and wish I'd had something warmer on...
