I have also put the hot water bottle on my lap too, and its making the world of difference this evening.
Want To Be,
Perhaps I should consider a HWB too;)I have a fleece on the mattress under a sheet and one over the duvet.
Started trying to look into whether I should/how I try and get in a lodger to cover the costs coming in but not sure as I receive various benefits if its feasable as it may affect them too much but if it means I could stay put(downsizing seems difficult around here)but it is so confusing. If I thought it would cover the Bedroom tax and other possible reductions I'd do it. Even if I was allowed two...and I understand that I am.:p
If I do I may be able to stay put. There may an intial outlay.
And I may have to invest in some furniture and perhaps suitable beds and carpets to attract someone but if I thought I have to move I don't want to waste money. I don't mind sharing food, the internet, TV, phone etc...and giving access to the kitchen etc...
If I could survive this way for a few years I may be able to reach the age where I am not affected by the changes. At present I understand that is 61 years of age but they'll move the age limits further back.
Perhaps if they can pay enough I can have the heating on more.:)
Those gloves...my hands are warm but my fingers aren't but I need to be able to tap the keyboard. I wonder how many in the UK are living like this? Hell no heating still OFF. credit building up atm so will be toasty come winter...
feels a little nippy tonight.. but i'll be in bed shortly my eyes are starting to close lolThe house we live in at the mo has a tin roof so can get very cold, the cold def sets him (and myself) off.
Bed seems to be the best place to be MC...
QT often it really is a case of deciding whether to sit up perhaps cold unless you are dressed in thermals or have some kind of fleece/throw over you. I don't object to saving money or helping the environment but as we often say it would be nice to have the choice and it's an essential thing for living.
I am keeping it off at present but they still have me in that I have the electric on..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Heating still off and I've been tempted to turn it on. You know that it's not cold enough for the heating when you realise you are complaining that it is a bit chilly when you are wearing only a t-shirt.
Ordinarily I don't normally even think about chucking the heating on in winter but I'm interested in seeing how long I can leave it until I capitulate - a challenge if you will. I'm aiming to get as far into November as possible.0 -
Our house gets very damp as the weather gets colder and i have put the heating on for about two weeks now, for one hour each morning and one hour in the early evening.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Yes something to watch. If I need to heat the water I tend to think I may as well have the CH on as well. At present it is off and being out from approx 3pm-midnight tomorrow I can avoid using it again. Funny having CH and we're all having to avoid it."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Still off but the wood burning stove has been put to work, especially as a confidential papers burner! We are clearing a lot of cupboard so there is a lot of paper to burn, it does not give loads of hear but takes the chill away and we intersperse it with a few wooden logs to increase heat.
Still hoping to make 1st November the earliest day for central heating, but it all depends on how the weather behaves, we don't want to be martyrs to the cause, if it gets freezing cold, bang, the CH is on!Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Of course here we go again
What constitutes heating? In my book ANYTHING that generates heat. The fact you get your firewood/coal for free does not negate that it's heating, else someone could claim that bypassing their electric meter ( illegally
) means they don't have the heating on
My heating has been on, but is off today because it's been warmer. For those concerned they are being wimpish, do consider the aspect, build etc of your home. Someone who is able to take advantage of a south/west facing aspect, cavity wall insulation/ neighbours who burn fuel like it's going out of style etc etc of course their fuel and heating needs won't match a building with solid walls, north facing aspect, no neighbours etc
Lets just hope that we all manage to stay free from hypothermia this year as it looks to be a cold one from the forecasts.0 -

Well said. The most important thing is being able to put on the heating when you need to. I do smile when people say that the heating isn't on but....:rotfl::rotfl: No heating at all here yet although the heavy quilt and flannelette sheets are on the bed.;)Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Nobodyspecial I don't see this as a competition as to who can withstand the cold the longest, people are not putting the heat on to save the pennnies, and if you are getting free wood and your cold then it makes sense to burn it if you so wish. If anything that generates heat is heating, then lightbulbs, rubbing your hands together, etc. I think the poster was trying to convey that she is not paying to heat her place and as this is MSE, i thought that was the point, good for her. By the way, my heating is still not on, I am hoping to last until November, but will put it on if my daughter comes home from uni, so its nice and cosy.0
