I am in Perthshire, work at home in a sedentary occupation and my heating has been off for a week this year. I was spending the time in the Arctic.

I've become a crazy lady with the heating. We have gas, but it's still so expensive. The boiler goes off in March and doesn't come on again properly until November.

About once a month we'll stick it on for an hour to heat enough water for a bath, but that's a treat (our immersion is amazingly carp - could be on all day and wouldn't fill the bath!). The only other exception is if one of us is really ill and layers and blankets won't cover things. Touch wood that's not happened for a good while now.

The last few days there has been a definite drop in temperature and we have had to drag out some of the winter prep things already and it is barely September! Yesterday I was shivering and came perilously close to putting the heating on!

I'm still using a fan at night to keep cool.

  • I had my heating on last night! I was freezing ...... Came in handy though as I had a load of washing to dry so the radiators killed 2 birds with 1 stone!

Am still sitting here in a cotton trousers and a t-shirt. Not cold here at all.
I have put the duvet back on the bed, but the window is still slightly open. We can't open it to far, as it is a velux and I am worried in case it rains.

Heating not going on until a least Nov.
