Is your heating ON or OFF?

Today I got back £540 from Scottish Gas for overpayment of direct debits for my gas and electric. I got £400 back in March as well. I have seen a big difference since we got our loft insulated last September. I live in the north east of Scotland and have probably had the heating on for about 5 hours in total this summer. I have also made a conscious effort in turning things off, like the TV and lights when i'm not in the room. I pay £220 a month for my gas and electric direct debits (one of them is £105, the other is £115). I'm not going to ask them to lower it yet. I keep thinking it's a fluke but the readings are definitely correct!0

It's a 4 bed detached house, but not huge. There are 5 of us here with all the usual computer equipment, consoles and TV's and a few insomniacs who sometimes make use of them until the early hours. It does get pretty cold up here. The tumble dryer is in the garage and I don't use it for fear of beasties. The washer is on a lot though. The house is a lot warmer since we got it insulated. It's 11 months since it got done and that's £940 back in that time. Usually we run just about even over the year - apart from this one past.0 -
We had our cavity walls insulated last year and the roof insulated earlier on in the summer (they laid it on top of the old insulation) so I am hoping that will keep the house warmer this winter. It was a massive upheaval at the time as we had to bring over 30 years worth of junk down from the loft! I don't know why we kept all that stuff as most of it went straight to the tip!!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

I have moved house this year, and it will be my first winter here.
Heating has only been on to check it works (I moved in May), I plan on seeing how long I last. Previously I lived in a ground floor flat, with no heating bar convection heaters, with a huge 8ft * 8ft window which was single glazed, I regularly used to get ice inside the windows and had to sleep in thick socks and wear gloves when typing on the computer! :eek:This place should be warmer with radiators and double glazing.
No cavity walls as my house is Victorian, but I am going to see if I am eligible for loft insulation, and hold out putting the heating on until I'm cold wearing a thick sweater and thermal slippers :jMortgage May 2012 - £129k
