It's funny, when I was younger, I would literally have died before asking for help, now I'm a bit older I'm mellowing and seeing just how silly I was.

don`t play the martyr, it is hard to warm up the core when the body gets very cold and you will not feel your core get cold

If you are have received the winter fuel payment, then there is absolutely no excuse. It was meant for heating, so use it

2 days to a heart attack, 5 days to a stroke 12 days to bronchitis

Lostinrates isn't old enough to qualify for the winter-fuel payment! She's a young woman with a health-condition, maybe more than one.

Angel, don't let this knock for six, most especially when you live on your own when your lovely husband is away from home. Go to bed and put the leccy blanket on if you feel as weak as a kitten.

If lived in the same county I'd be right round before you could say "knife". I'm a dab hand at hefting stuff and splitting logs. Had to be: I was the chief fire-lighter as a teen because I was the first home every day.

how sad. (edit, not to b and t, but to the deaths! B and t hadn't posted when i typed, lol) thank you dearest b and t. . I feel bad people are worrying, i will cope. I sometimes wonder if, bearing in mind i am meant to be dead, i am actually indestructble.....:)

It will be a relief to those with no choice anout heat to read That link and that she was not in an unheated home but in her garden, as were the other two tragic cases outside. Nevertheless, terribly sad.

I agree wholeheartedly, that this is the time those saving money have saved money for!


Fwiw, ironically, for me my house is probably milder now than usual, because when its a little warmer and i run no heating the house is obviously not being warmed up at all.

Also, bless the kind old styler who offered to bring some wood in for me. There are angels on this forum, and they are modest. I am ok peeps, just grumbling. . When you should worry is when the tough nuts STOP posting, lol. Even then...nowt anyone could d about it, rofl.

Ok, you worry worts, i have brought another barrow of wood in, and dad says he is definitely coming tomorrow, so will replenish if necessary.


Btw, one of the reasons i am scrimping ...the least selfish reason...there is my saving for the jse and my natural tightness that are the main reasons....is because i was putting some money my sisters way. She had cancer and has mental health issues, and has kids, so her use of heating was far more importnat than mine. She got a clean test back today! Excellent news!

Edit: somehow the word deaf had appearedin my text. I do not knwo how my fingers and brain came up with that! Apologies..

It makes no difference- my health -to helping her financially. She doesn't speak to me, i make bank transfers, oftenenough via my mother.
Dh's health though...thats something else...if he gets ill neither of us are useful:D

Its dam cold again here, woke to one helluver frost today and it hasnt warmed at all all day, my heating is on and has been all day even though im painting away indoors I hate a cold house, plus paint dry as soon as it touches the walls and ceilings..:D...I always say theres always a way to find that little bit of money to have some heat, ive been there and done it with babies and no money but never once did I scrimp on keeping the house warm and comfortable, its so important to everyones health........Keep warm all....:D

good lord, bitterand twisted I do hope that you weren`t assuming that my post was refering to lostinrates. It was a general post after I skimmed through the thread and saw so many seeing 12 degrees as good. My mil was that kind of martyr and it didn`t eventually do her health any good at all and this thread is read by many people of all ages

I have every empathy with what you are going through lostinrates and I am sure that many of us would help if we lived near enough
