The temperature drop is definitely getting noticeable, It's meant to be 11C with 40MPH winds and siling it down outside in a few hours so that will make it feel cold. I'm just trying to hold out till Monday when the weather goes back up to highs of 16C, from then I should be alright till the start of November.

I tried out the oil fired central heating a week or so ago. It worked okay but has remained off. That said, I have an oil fuelled cooker in the kitchen which went back on last month and I have already lit the woodburner in the sitting room today so I am not without heat. I mainly want to avoid too much oil use as we won’t be eligible for any help with the cost of that. It is a lot cooler upstairs but we have electric blankets so have been fine at night. We are retired and will try and keep a balance of being sensibly warm enough but not overusing fuel or electricity.

2 generic shredded wheat, plus milk, plus a blast in the microwave must cost about 25p. If you are cold I think it would make more sense to blast a fan heater for 30 mins! Although I do accept you get some nutrition in your method. I just always think that hot food/drink only keeps me warm whilst being consumed; at least proper heating has some lingering effect!

I’ve had central heating running for about an hour each morning for the past week. That seems to have been enough and temp has then been sustained throughout the day - although sure it won’t be long before a blast in the evening is required as well.

I've reset the timers on my heating to take account of the clocks going back tonight but only so that the hot water is hot at the right time tomorrow. I haven't actually set the heating programme to run automatically but once I do have to give in it will be quick and easy

It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

All heating still off here. I was close to putting the kitchen storage heater yesterday on but it's warming up today and then some sunshine from tomorrow onwards to bring the room temperatures up a bit.
