  • There is no sunshine here today in North London. It looks like the clouds are only about fifty feet higher than the buildings. No snow thawing yet and I haven't ventured out to test how chilly it is. Must go out in a bit to clear the snow from outside mine and my neighbour's flats plus the outside staircase. That got very icy last year and I AM NOT going to break anything falling down them. There are four households who use those stairs and no-one else bothered to do anything about them, lazy gits. Lucky I still have rock-salt and grit from last winter. Stupidly I still haven't bought a stiff broom so it will have to be done the hard way. Might be useful in order to work up a sweat.

Quite sunny here and no snow which is unusual because we normally get snow when everybody else is clear! We did get a little bit yesterday but not enough to cover the main roads, last night we had a nasty freezing fog though. It also feels a bit warmer than yesterday too so the heating has only been on for an hour early this morning to take the chill off before we get out of bed but I think it will be back on later when the sun goes.

Mrs Veg Plot as the stairs are open plan from the lounge here, I lose a lot of heat to the bedrooms. Like cleggie I go upstairs to read, listen to the radio etc, but still have to keep going downstairs to play garden-door attendant to the 3 furpets! Oh well, it keeps the circulation going :D

My stairs are open plan too Sparrer.
I keep thinking baout blocking them off, but it would make the front room look even smaller than it is already, and would make it considerably darker too.

Yes, i often go into my bedroom to listen to the radio/read a book...just think of the fat burning by going up and down the stairs all the time...:rotfl:

the kids and I have been prancing around the front room to 'Just Dance' on the Wii for the last half an hour..certainly dont need heating at the moment as i'm sweating my boobies off!!

i have just had my stairs blocked in and the difference it makes in heat is amazing, heating running at 18 and the sitting room is red hot - this is 18 in the living room and not hotter due to thermostat being in the coldest part of the house

Room is still about 17' by 13' so is not a bad size
  • Well there is no snow in Northern Ireland, but the heating was on this morning for a couple of hours and now the fire is lit in the living room/kitchen. Its not as chilly today as it has been the last couple of days
  • We only had a dusting of snow here in Fife and lovely sunshine which warms the front of my house beautifully in the mornings. I decamped into the kitchen when the sun moved to crank up the breadmaker and make a bit pot of soup. I am now sitting under a fleece warming my hands on my toasty laptop. The heating will go on for a couple of hours this evening which will be lovely.

Hope everyone keeps safe in the snow and ice!

I can't block my stairs in as it's an HA property, they're very lenient about what one can and can't do but think that would be going a little too far ;). I have a 13metre roll of very heavy, thick furnishing fabric, almost the same colour as my carpet, which can be cut into full length strips and stapled at the top to enclose the stairs, but my staple gun is broken :(. As soon as I can get out I'll get a new one and the fabric can be taken down when the weather is warmer

yeah, mine is a council house Sparrer, and they wouldnt allow me either. I was thinking frosted glass, so as to keep the light...never mind, i just make sure the doors are closed as much as possible ( and have to constantly remind the kids to close doors behind them!) and its not too bad.

Hope everyone is ok this morning.

Its a lot milder here, but local weather suggests it will be a cold week. Its the mud outside that really gets me. Heater on in the ktichen, dog lamp on, but i am warm enough for the time beingwith out the woodburner. Will reevaluate later.
  • Heating is off until this evening as everything is thawing here today in sunny Kent. Woodburner alight in sitting room, but as wood was nearly all free, I don't feel guilty! I did bake this morning so the oven was on for a while which warmed up the kitchen nicely. At work tomorrow so it will all be off all day and so will only have something on in the evening.
