Hi all, been lurking for a while
so hello. I tend to put the heating on or light the fire when the living room gets down to 10 - 13 degrees but try to hold off it is any warmer (or should that be less cold?)
We are lucky in that we have an open fire and have managed to get lots of free wood but we are running low so rationing it as much as possible whilst looking for a new source.
I used to be one of those who would have the heating on and walk around in a t-shirt until I moved into this house which is always cold. We have oil central heating and you can see how much fuel you are using so it does deter you. I find I get too warm at other people's houses and in the office now as I have adjusted to being cold.
Anyone who is after base layers, I got lots in Milletts recently for between £4 and £7 and they are lovely and soft and warm. I also use the layering tacticand have an electric blanket which I adore, was not cheap but it has duel controls so no arguments
We also have a convector heater which we have on in the bathroom in the morning as it is always freezing (north facing, two outside walls) rather than put the heating on. It is 2KW and is on for half an hour at most so more cost effective than heating the whole house (costs about 10p a day I think).0 -

My boy Stanley recently discovered my hot-water bottle. As soon as it goes under the covers to warm up the bed he's under there too so I have to fight him to get in there sometimes. Still a hottie on my toes and a pusscat warming my tummy is so very comforting if only he wouldn't wriggle about so much.
I'm loving these animals, so sensible and cute!!
16.8 here today, feels ok..0 -

i have still been putting mine on low to take the chill off, my house is well insulated loft and walls with the new a rated glass double glazing. I am now finding the house heats quickly and retains the heat well however it is often colder inside the house than it is outside, does anyone else notice this?0

Been beautiful and sunny here today, a little wind but its dry everywhere, got all the washing dried again which is a bonus, havnt had the dryer on much this winter weve had real good drying days, put the heating on this arvo abot 2 clock , had to turn it off hour later got to 21 degrees its been off since 3 and the temp now says 20 degrees.......Birds have been singing away today and looking at the nesting boxes as they do at this time of year, really felt like spring is not too far away, but we will see..!!0

Ours comes on now and again first thing and then off for the rest of the day.
If its cold we pop it back on at bath time for the kids - me and the mrs have dressing gowns, slippers, tracksuit bottoms (fluffy ones not shell suits) and slankets. The open fire also gets lit now and again.
We are quite lucky with a south facing garden and a conservatory so if we get some sun it heats up quite well. Leave it to get hot and then open the door between it and the front room.....lovely and warm.
Luckily this year it hasn't been on half as much as last year....save a few pennies hopefully! Thanks to advice from people here I am debt free - thank you to you all! Now working on the mortgage!0 -
Not lighting the woodburner these days. But have left the dogs' heat lamp on and I'm using the electric blanket to warm the bed in the evenings. Cats like those too, and they love snuggling under the covers. I'mvery grateful this winter with such limeted heating has been so mild, but it could still turn colder.
I do usually wear long underwear as needed but I think it's been fewer than ten days this winter so far.0 -
Well i've just had my estimated bills through and am pleasantly surprised.
I thought my electric would be horrendous as have been using a dehumidifier on and off for a few months, but it's fine. I'll stop worrying about using it now!
Gas is in credit by a fair amountI know the last time I put my heating on was the 18th December as i'd been out that day and couldn't get warm, but it hasn't been on since and prior to that it had only been on a handful of times.
Thanks throw and hot water bottle!Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

When I checked on line it looked like it would be colder on Friday, but fine today. Very comfortable really, have the back door open airing the place, and a few upstairs windows, though the sitting room could do with an airing I don't yet fancy sitting still with the window open, so might give it a quick half hour freshen when I feed critters this afternoon.0
