Is your heating ON or OFF?

Had a problem with heating last night so I introduced my 20 yo son to my favourite heirloom -A stone hot water bottle (or jack). Goodness knows how old it is-at least fifty years as I remember having it as a very small child it wasn't new then -and even then no-one ever seemed to have heard of them.
It's fab-stays warm all night-and if you're very MSE you can then empty it into aa bowl and the water is warm enough to wash in-If you kick it out of bed though it makes a horrible thud.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

17.6 here and starting to feel cold.
I bought a normal hot water bottle recently and am amazed how much better they are now with the covers on than the basic ones without years ago - mine is still hot when I get up in the morning!0 -
Yes, so is mine. It seems a technological miracle for something to emit heat and conserve it at the same time. Physics was never my strong suit.
Thermostat us showing 14 degrees and I'm wearing a fleece so it doesn't feel cool to me at all. Not had the heating on since I got back from my sister's after Chrissie last week. Hoorah!0 -
Thermometer inside shows the temp in my house is 10 degrees without heating on, so gonna try not to put heating on...
but i am feeling cold today :=(
Well done to all of you who have managed to keep the heating off!
Its harder to do if you have children though.“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning,

Mine is on, it's gone really cold. There was a frost this morning which actually felt quite nice after all the wind and rain.

Crikey O'Reilly Prudent Princess! I'm not surprised that you're feeling chilly. Ten degrees is very cold indeed. Unless you're hardened to it like an eskimo. But even they wear nice cosy pelts 24/7 Please, don't sacrifice your health and well-being for a couple of quid if you have those couple of quids. Or sacrifice the health and well-being of your little darling kidlets.0 -
Does anyone else here wear long underwear? I find that long underwear, including long johns and a top, helps a great deal, probably adding a few degrees to perceived temperature. I'm interested to know whether the fancy thermal layers you can get at outdoors shops etc. are better again, and worth the extra ££££ to buy. Anybody have experience?
We have the heating on a few hours every day in the morning and evening. This house leaks heat something shocking, so need to stay warm other ways as heating it all day is out of the question.
I wear leggings underneath everything from late Nov- early March and I feel weird without them, especially under work trousers. Also wear either a thermal top or a long sleeved top under everything as well. Makes me feel toasty. These are just fashion leggings and long-sleeved tops rather expensive outdoorsy types so I don't know if they're any better. HTH.Times is 'ard.0 -

I wear thermal underwear, long johns & vests with long sleeves. I get mine from good old M&S so can't say whether the 'outdoor' type is any different.
I tend to 'layer up' to keep warm, wearing at least 3 layers, including my thermal vest + adding a nice thick bodywarmer when I start to feel chilly. I feel the cold a lot and mine is a cold house as it's an older property, so I do need the heating on daily. Currently it's on for a couple of hours in the mornings, then if I'm home, it's on again from anywhere in between 1.30-2pm until round about 8.30pm.
I tend to go to bed about 9.30pm or so, to a nice warm bed, thanks to the invention of electric blankets, a snug pair of pyjamas & a good book to settle down with. I've even treated my cat to a pad you heat in the microwave, to help keep him warm & snug at night. A brilliant invention for pets, it keeps warm for at least 13 hours I've found & is even ideal for people who want to keep certain areas of their bodies warm in the cold weather. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -

Well be careful cos your gonna suffer with hypothermia at those temps, and make your self very ill ,unless you are absolute penniless then id say you need to have your heating on for a bit to get them temps up....... This thread is not a competion , nobodys going to get a medal to see if they can survive the coldest temperatures in their house on MSE .............look after yourself please......0 -
16.5 this morning, heating will go on if it drops another degree or two.
10 PP I could never cope with that!
Re the thermals/leggings etc, I find most work offices unbearably hot, I hate it in winter when you need to dress for the cold weather outside, especially if travelling in on public transport and then have bimbos in skimpy clothing wanting the office temp really high!0
