  • Going to knock off the early morning heating as I am not starting work as early this week and off work next. That takes us down to just 2 hours a day at the moment.

Ours is off at the minute. Put readings in today and our combined DD has been reduced by £19 a month for next year. Never thought that would happen but it's so mild at the moment.

Can't beleive how mild it is at the moment, our heating is a combination of electric storage heaters in the living/dining room, hallway and panel heaters in the bedrooms, at the moment I only have one storage heater on in the living room and the panels in the bedroom are set to come on at 19 and have not kicked in for over a week now.

  • Having entered my monthly reading into Scottish powers website it is OFF! Cost £96 gas and £67 for electric for 31 days of December. Cost cutting starts here. Night before last I left it off and do no morning heating it was coldest night for ages freezing when I got up, typical! Just reset timer now back to work , 1 hour at 5.30 am and 2 hours at night ( for kids mainly) Also making a conscious effort to unplug stuff

our heating comes on a for an hour in the morning.. then it's off for the day. When I get in from work sometime in the afternoon I find it a bit nippy in the house and will light the wood stove. That keeps us warm enough for the rest of the day/evening.
My husband has found a trick to keep his feet warm...

we have a cast iron cooking plate.. not sure how to call it, but it's round and flat, for cooking pancakes and roti and such... and it's cast iron. It lives on the wood stove for decoration as we don't use it much. And when his feet get cold by the end of the evening he'll put it on the floor and place his feet on in!. LOL!.. THat's such a brill idea I could have thought of it!

Wow that is expensive for a month! How many heaters or what size property is that for if you don't mind me asking? I'd be scared to get a bill that size for 1 month!!

I've started putting in my meter reading monthly now on Scottish Power, supposed to do it 3 monthly but I want to keep an eye on exactly how much I am spending each month with the rising prices.

Hi Kirri, 3 bed detached, but I've got to say up to last week I never gave putting heating on a second thought and it was usually on all weekend and about 6 hours a day. That last bill blew my mind and Ive finally seen the light (and am turning it off ha ha) hubbies n kids already sick of my mantra reduce reuse and recycle! Now I've started looking at what we have been spending money on and I can't believe how wasteful we've been, including buying stuff we just don't need. No wonder my wages were going nowhere :o
