Wow that is expensive for a month! How many heaters or what size property is that for if you don't mind me asking? I'd be scared to get a bill that size for 1 month!!

Hi Kirri, 3 bed detached, but I've got to say up to last week I never gave putting heating on a second thought and it was usually on all weekend and about 6 hours a day. That last bill blew my mind and Ive finally seen the light (and am turning it off ha ha) hubbies n kids already sick of my mantra reduce reuse and recycle! Now I've started looking at what we have been spending money on and I can't believe how wasteful we've been, including buying stuff we just don't need. No wonder my wages were going nowhere :o

Prices are really getting ridiculous, that is shocking to see how much it costs just to heat a house - and there was me thinking it's hard to keep under £30 a month!! (the one time I am thankful for a tiny flat lol!).

and yep once we start looking at what is spent so much seems a waste, I look back and really regret some things I spent on..

Ours is on, today kept it on all day from 8am, and so far it appears to have actually been firing for about 4 hours, on and off. Outdoor temp is 3.9 degrees and the lounge is at 24 with the multifuel stove lit as well, heating thermostat in hallway is set to 18 and it is currently 19 in there. Our gas DD is £50 which has come down from £120 :) Electricity has been at £80 until recently but I have increased this to £100 just make absolutely sure we dont slip into a debit balance. 4 bed house, 3 adults plus visitors, reasonable insulation thats all. Cannot be upgraded any further though.

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.
  • Ours is on about 3 hours a day at the moment. Cut it down from 4 hours a day as we got our bill from August - beginning of Dec for £168. At first I thought this wasn't too bad, diving by approx 3 months is £56 a month for both gas and electric. But now I've realised we didn't actually put the heating on until the 20 something of Nov.

We can live without it in the evenings by wrapping up warm but it drops the temperature of the house right down so that when the heating comes on in the morning it doesn't really make any difference. Both of us hate our jobs so if it's not warm enough to get out of bed then we probably wouldn't!

Also pretty gutted that I fixed my prices, think we might have got to the peak of the energy price rises for the moment.
    Times is 'ard.

Well and truly on tonight as it's really cold out there. I was out and about in West London from 3pm to 7:30pm and the freezing wind was diabolical. :o
I'm heating the main room I'm sitting in, and very low heating in the rest of the flat.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

Mine's just gone off - it must have reached it's set temperature. It will come on again at 5.30 in the morning. It has definitely been colder here today and is due to be chilly again tomorrow.

I'm going to bed in a little while and read for a bit. That'll be warmer. :)
  • Not on here and hasn't been all day - living room at 19.7 degrees and thermostat is set at 18 so hoping it doesn't drop any lower, although youngest DD (aged 14) made me feel bad as when I came in from work she was sat in her coat saying it was cold and went to her room at about 6.30pm as she said it was way too cold to sit downstairs! Maybe I shouldn't be so tight!?

My bungalow normally stays at 18 degrees during the day in the winter if I dont put the heating on,its south facing, and we have very large windows, but I like it at 21 so on it goes, I feel chilly under 21 and to me I dont feel comfortable, I always wear a thin fleece indoors, I do love my heat.....:D
  • I have barely had mine on at all instead opting for jumpers and things instead. Since October apart from my regular £25 per month I have spent £50 extra on gas which isn't too bad at all I don't feel and aside from the regular £25 per month I put in the electric meter I have put in an extra £30, so all in all £80 for a total of 3 months of nippy weather isn't bad.

I will put it on in the morning if I need to but throughout the day we play and things to keep warm and as soon as little one is in bed it goes off and i use a blanket/duvet/exercise bike/bed to keep warm.

I hate using the heating but needs must and my house isn't even insulated. The loft has recently been upgraded but it has made not a jot of difference and the cavity wall people didn't bother appearing and my landlord has done nothing about it either. *Sigh*
