Is your heating ON or OFF?

Had the woodburner on all day, its almost burnt out now though. I daren't look at the themometre at the other end of the house! I'm toasty after huddling in the sitting room, and just had a lovely hot bubbly bath and turned the electric blanket on for later. Tomorrow I hope to be a litte more active and less reliant on the heater as a result. (I have builder in and have given up on the house for couple of days, so tomorrow may well be the day to start fighting back

Been really cold here today, but I have just turned heating off after having it on for a couple of hours, and if I start feeling cold in the next couple of hours before bedtime I will wrap myself in a fleece.
My daughter put my Xmas tree up last night and although it looks lovely with lights on and makes me feel good I cant help wondering how much it costs, this time last year I would have had the heating on constant and all the Xmas lights on all day, but now Im in to MSE I cant help wondering how much everything costs and can I really afford it! so if anyone has any ideas on cost of having lights on I would be interested!!!!!!!

Succumbed, this month, and started to run heating throughout day.
Just done a "predict your next bill" on British Gas site.
Last monthly bill £46.79.
This monthly bill predicted to be £105. 25   Terrifying!
And that is with our woodburner going from about 3pm in the living room.
CH is turned off now and will be off most of day from now on.
Out with the fleeces and fleece balnkets for watching TV.Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0 -
Really cold today ,the winds bitter. We have managed to keep it off but it was getting to the point where I thought I would have to flick that switch,it was only the thought of the cost that stopped me
You're much hardier than I mrsr. Or have a great deal more self-control. I gave in and put the heating on for an hour earlier this evening I was just so cold. Only the one radiator, mind and only for an hour: it was nice to see that thermostat soaring up to 15 degrees. Positively balmy. That used one unit of gas. I'm watching that meter like a hawk.0 -
I'm still watching the cost like a hawk despite the cold. We have it on for showers/baths, and occasionally I stick it on for 15 mins later in the day when the bathroom's just freezing cold. I have the radiators turned down low in the living room because that kind of 'steals' heat from neighbouring flats and we have blankets on the sofa, so need it less in there.
Off to see if Scottish Gas do a predict your next bill thing, I'm being a bit overly obsessive.February Grocery Challenge - £100.87/£180February Don't Throw Food Away Challenge - £0.60/£1.500 -
Heating on low - each room has thermostats, my bedroom on frost only as is kitchen, DDs on 1 (lowest), bathroom on 1 and living room on frost only as I have raging fire going with freeeeeeeeeeeeee wombled wood :T :money:
Nice and toasty in here.
Really feel for people with no heat - remember a couple of members here last year unable to heat their houses (if you are lurking, I do remember you :A ) and felt awful about it.
Keep warm everybody xx0 -
Rather annoyed at British Gas now as they've automatically switched us to paperless billing when I registered (to do meter readings and predict my bill - turns out I can't do the latter) Don't want this! Fired off an email and hopefully they switch it back pronto. Wish I hadn't bothered with it in the first place. I really can't be doing with keeping track of paperless billing.
Anyway, I guess I'll be continuing to work out my future bills manually.February Grocery Challenge - £100.87/£180February Don't Throw Food Away Challenge - £0.60/£1.500 -
Still off here - started to feel a bit chilly yesterday, but popped my dressing gown over my clothes and was fine. Definitely getting colder as the cats are only going outside for the necessary and coming straight back. I love having them in, but could do without their excess energy and using me as part of the lap when they're doing their mad circuits of the house!0

They might settle a bit if you give them a very ell wrapped hot wter bottle, better still a het pad/microwave het thingy, in a box.
No wood burner today, but I am cold. I have lit a candle and the dogs lamp did stay on last night and is still on now: in fact I guess it i on for winter now.0 -
Does anyone know the minimum temp you can have the heating on, to prevent pipes freezing?
I'm a money wasting expert.
